Summary:

Dean's seven, Dad's off hunting, and Sammy's full of questions. To him, Dean's got all the answers, but Dean's not sure himself. How did Mom die? Where does Dad go? Why does he keep leaving?

But Dean's got enough to worry about. Like keeping Sammy safe. Making sure there's food. Waiting for Dad.

Answers can wait. Dean's got his family to worry about.

And nothing else matters.

OMG

This is... I'm not a fan of John's and I do think he was a terrible father to Dean - but this is more than I like to imagine.

It's a good, very well-writen story, even if highly disturbing. I'd love to read more.

Is there something more to John's behavior? Like does he have any particular reason to treat Dean like that? I mean like a situation when parents blame their kids for something stupid that wasn't their fault in any way but it affects their relationship nonetheless. But that would be Sam rather than Dean, considering how Mary had died. So does John have issues or is he just mean bastard?

Ok, you don't need to answer right away, I just would like to read more about John's motives in the story, why there is such a difference in how he treats his boys.

And I have to mention that I absolutely love your Bobby.

And I love the parts about tables and so on. And letters.

It just a piece of great writing.

PS. The title from Metallica *HEARTS*

Author's Response:

I think its a little bit of both. He does have a lot of issues and he's not exactly Father Brady with his children. I think right now John just feels out of his league. He's still groping with the death of the love of his life and the idea that it might have not been completely natural. On the other hand, he's not the superstitious type, so its also kind of a question of his own sanity. And he's trying to keep a brave face for his kids. And i think he's never felt perfectly capable of being a good father. Im not saying he isnt, but he doubts himself.

All that aside, I accept that my John may be slightly OOC. I have a slightly different story in my head of how things went down, so that changes things. It will all be explained in the end. :)

I know I should update more often, and I'll try to keep up from now on. I'll post the next chapter after I finish writing this response. I hope you like it.

I don't like your John.

I don't like John in general, that a fact, but I think yours is an overkill. Sorry.

I know that we don't know that much about him, and we don't have a proof otherwise but I can't imagine John being a bastard from the very beginning.

That doesn't mean I don't like the story. Even if I don't share your view of John, I liked the consistency and the Campbells related musings.

I like your view on John/Dean dynamics. :)

It's believable, you let us in John's head and created a reasonable vision of this character.

Good writing, keep that up!

Author's Response: Thanks so much!  I'm glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for letting me know!

It is sad on so many levels... The hesitation in calling, the unwillingness to call back. Yeah, they miss each other badly, but Winchesters tend to be stubborn as hell.

I hope you will continue - this ending is such a cliffhunger.

Good job,

Author's Response:

Thank you! Winchester stubborn-ness, now I wouldn't like to deal with that!

I hope I get the time to continue it! Ugh, school!

Nice one shot. I like the ant analogy. It's strangely fitting

I spotted a typo -  the tiny any looked just how Sam felt - I suppose you meant ant

Author's Response:

Thankyou!

And yes, I did mean 'ant.' Oops! Thanks for spotting that - I'll go and fix it up!
