Date: 14/08/09 Title: Chapter 1: Mr Brightside - "Pan galactic fuckin’ gargle blaster, kiddo" - Priceless!! This promises to be even better than "The woods". Dean teetering on the edge, sometimes here and sometimes not, with Sam and Bobby with their arms out, not sure if they can catch him, is written with so much love for the characters. I've fallen for this fic. Maria Author's Response: Maria, thanks so much! I'm a tad nerve-wracked about posting because Woods was very popular over on FF and here. But I think the fact that I am taking longer to write this means that what I have completed so far is better written than the equivalent chapters of Woods, if that makes sense. Date: 14/08/09 Title: Chapter 2: Leaving Normal "Slippery when wet" Hoots and gives Lucy a hug for being so nice to poor, shattered Dean. And Sam and Bobby doing the psych evaluation was just awesome. “Leaving the nasty shit in the safe place” is sometimes absolutely the best policy. Date: 14/08/09 Title: Chapter 3: Life, Abroad in the Land and Defiant Oh this just gets better and better. I'm right, this IS better than "Woods". Absolutely worth the extra time you have given the work. You have a great talent with the words and I love the pop-culture references. I can see Dean's face in my mind's eye as he looks at Sam and says "Thought I was gonna be silenced by the lambs there, Sammy". Maria Author's Response: You know, Maria, I love pop culture and use it all the time in conversation as adjectives, examples, whatever. Dean is a gift when it comes to that... he talks like me! Date: 14/08/09 Title: Chapter 4: See How Deep the Bullet Lies Wonderfuly heartwrenching scene with Dean opening up to Sam. On the lighter side, I enjoyed Sam's analysis of whammied Bobby's utterings and yay - Dean is a Monty Python fan! I'm starting to like thusdays! Maria Author's Response: I love Python! Date: 14/08/09 Title: Chapter 5: Comfortably Numb Thanks for a very intense chapter. Poor messed-up Dean - on the way to some serious de-tox I fear. Looking forward to the next chapter (a whole week away!) to see what's going on in Kathleen's neck of the woods. Maria Author's Response: Yup: people totally underestimate alcohol as a drug. This is the beginning of Dean’s eyes being opened to it, though, and Bobby sure as heck won’t be as hands-off as he has been up to now… Some nice Hudak in C6, Maria, and the boys finally get to Hibbing in C7… hope to see you next week and I’m so pleased Thursdays are looking a tad more enjoyable to you!

Date: 22/08/09 Title: Chapter 6: Never Look Back, Walk Tall Act Fine Poor, poor Dean "he feels about as popular as a pork chop in a fuckin’ synagogue". Addiction of any kind is hard to admit for the addicted and possibly even harder to handle for his nearest and dearest. You have described the feelings involved in this prickly situation nicely. know Sam and especially Bobby will be there for Dean with lots of tough love but I bet he's going to go through hell. At least they've got the case to distract them. Again, thanks for brightening my day. Maria Author's Response: You are so welcome, Maria! You are right: and I think that so many people underestimate the addictive powers of alcohol, when it can be just as harmful and destructive as street drugs… Of course, Bobby will have seen the effects alcohol had on John Winchester and that will come up in a conversation between him and Dean… ;-)

Date: 26/08/09 Title: Chapter 7: It's Just a Shot Away An update and it's not even Thursday! This was a great chapter. I loved the "talk scene" with Kathleen and Dean - "Because if you do that, if you’re – kind to me, I’m losin’ it, right here and now." Poor Dean, so close to the edge and trying so hard to keep it together. A little kindness or sympathy and his walls will come tumbling down. But Kathleen seems to have a better handle on Dean's issues than Sam, so I hope she can help him sort himself out. He deserves some peace. Maria Author's Response: Kathleen most definitely has feminine intuition, which must never be underestimated! Plus she has that emotional distance from Dean that means she can view things more subjectively than Sam. Sam has issues about what happened and about certain things Dean did or didn't do... subconscious issues he isn't even really aware of. Some of that will come out next few chapters. I'm so glad you liked this! It's very much a transitional chapter and I was worried it might bore people! ;-) Summary:
John has made a discovery that has made him have to sit Dean down for that talk. John though might learn more than his son, more than he really wants to know!
