Ah...the ending was perfect. Was wondering when we would get to see the 'ripple effect' bit. Nicely done.

I feel happy having read this.
Next....??
Thank you, Jules, so much. You and I both know the meaning and emotion behind that word!!! So, not lame!

Author's Response:

Thanks, Karen,

And yep, the actual effect was finally mentioned, although we saw it right throughout the story, with poor Dean being the one caught in the ripples.

And yes, you're dead right - we both know there's lots more behind that simple word.

LOL - well, let's see.....you could try Eagle and Dove - a little bit of hurt Sam, a little bit of ballistic missile Sam, and a little bit of loopy Sam thrown in for good measure.

Or you could just use the list, a pin and a blindfold again - rofl!

Author's Response:

Hello, Karen,

Thank you so much. Sarah (my beta, Ziggy) told me she'd given you a link for me.

I can't join ff.net - I've tried three times and each time it's failed to go through, and since I'm a bit of a believer in omens, I'm taking that as three strikes and I'm out.....

But I just wanted to say that I've been a very happy lurker in your pages. I adored Bumbles Don't Bounce They Bite and quite a few others. I've even printed out some of my favourites, including Bumbles, and added them to my little pile of nighttime reading. So thank you for sharing your stories.

And welcome to UnGen - I hope that you derive hours of pleasure trolling through the pages. There are some truly awesome writers on this site, and it's a pretty nice place to hang out, too.

Dean, Dean, Dean....slippin' your bro a mickey?

Shame, shame, shame.

 I like!

 Wink, wink...

Karen

Author's Response:

He did indeed. And isn't he just going to hear about it in the morning when Sam wakes up - LOL.

But at least it's given him a bit of a reprieve from Sam's hair-trigger temper so he can try to figure out what the hell is going on.

So glad you like - but oh, yes, drugged Sammy...*lays finger alongside nose and winks knowingly*...

Watched Sam, Interrupted again the other night, and of course, that "Boop!" scene just gets funnier each time I see it. Smashed Sam in that episode was just too adorable for words. And that pleased grin after he booped big brother's nose - oh my gosh - how can six foot four of solid muscle be so gosh-darned cute? I'm hoping the season five dvd extras have some bloopers for that episode - lol.

Thanks, my friend. Keep enjoying the ride.

Here I am! Over here. Can you see me now? LOL.

This is great. I really had such a taste for a true-blue ghost story. Thar she blows!

Adore the Sam angst/booding bits and Dean struggling with his anger and worry at the same time.

Gawd...I just love dreaming your dreams.

Onward,

Karen

Author's Response:

*squints into the distance* oh, there you are!

Hello! *waves*...so this is where the whirlwind dumped you, eh? LOL

Oh, you know, I have to tell you something funny regarding you wanting a true-blue ghost story, because that's exactly what my thoughts were when I started fleshing out the idea for the story. I wanted to go back to a plain old-fashioned ghost tale....of course, with what a good friend of mine calls a "Mizpah trick of the light" - lol.

And yep, there are lots of Sam broody bits, as this is not long after Cold Oak, so the angst is simmering away quite nicely, ready to boil over.

And boil it does.......*cue dramatic music*

Thanks hun, and welcome to another wild ride.

What can I say about this story that others have not?

I swear you should write for the show!

Your stories would make great episodes.

Thank you to Chris and Ziggy...I'll say it again...you guys make an awesome team!

Me -- having a blast -- reading you! Thanks again to Ziggy who pointed me your way. She is so supportive of everyone!

Sunshine,

Karen

Author's Response:

Wow, you certainly motored through this one - lol. You must have had your best running shoes on.

Thank you so much, Karen. I had fun on this one, ramping up the tension until it finally snapped, along with poor Sammy. And thankfully it all still worked because of the new information on the birthday thing and my having to shift the timeline around a bit to suit.

Someone actually told me to leave it as the original, as it didn't matter, but it mattered to me. I wasn't writing an AU story this time, so I needed to match the tale to the established facts. It meant some rewrites in a couple of spots, but it really wasn't that much of a drama.

And I felt better for changing it once I found out Sam's birthday was actually the day he was brought back to life.

Huge thanks once again, my friend. I'm so thrilled you're enjoying yourself so much in my world.

I read your Sam-stuck-up-to-his-neck-in-swamp-mud story again the other night, and had a wonderful time. And I owe you some reviews when life settles down a bit.

Take care,

Jules

Drunk Sammy...a definite kink of mine!

You wrote him beautifully buzzed! All floppy and limp armed in the chair. Giggles.

I love the part where Sam goes all 'Clint Eastwood' on the bar guy...he he! 'Well, are you going to draw that knife or whistle dixe?' LOL.

Great story...really great!
You are such fun time!

Drunk Sammy's pretty funny, isn't he? I had fun with Drunk Sammy.

So glad you liked Sam channelling his inner John when the bar bloke came after him. I wouldn't want to take him on, that's for sure - lol.

I have Drunk Sammy in a couple of other stories - actually I have High!Sammy in one of them - drugged and completely off his face,  much to Dean's horror - LOL. Hope you enjoy that one when you stumble across it.

Heartwarming. Was like going to Barns and Nobel...taking a book off the self, finding a quiet corner, sitting in a chair, sipping coffee and reading.

Happy, satisfied sigh, thank you for that!

Karen

Will read more of you soon!

Author's Response:

Thank you very much, Karen. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Certain things bug me in the show - not bad things, just some little stuff that becomes an itch I have to scratch. And this period of time was one of them. The boys had gone from almost arguing, and Dean whacking the poor old Impala, to back on the road and being comfortable with each other again, so I figured out that at some stage while at Bobby's, they had to have come to some sort of agreement about things - or at least buried the hatchet for the time being.

So this scratched a persistent itch. And happily, others had that same itch, so it worked out well - lol.

Thank you once again, and take care.

A lovely dedication to him -- that really touched me!

I am here reading your very special story!

Resectfully,

Karen

Author's Response:

Thank you, Karen.

My Pop was such a huge part of my life, sometimes it's hard to remember that he's gone. Coming up to the three-year anniversary in a couple of weeks, too - I'll be in Sydney for the second AHBL OzCon that weekend. Actually, I think the anniversary day is the Sunday, when we're booked for a tour of Sydney Harbour - hope Chris and I don't embarrass ourselves by having a little meltdown on the boat.....

And I hope that you enjoy the story. It was really hard at times, even months down the track, tapping into my own grief to get Sam's right.

Jules

Tender and gorgeously designed. I can feel the build up already. How you are pulling us slowly through both boys pain.

Dean sleeping in the Impala with Sam...consoling his brother the only way he can right now...beautiful!

I can tell how much you've poured your own emotions into this. I know how draining that can be, drawing on your own reserves to write, and I also know -- how healing!

Prayers and hugs
Karen

Author's Response:

Thank you so much, Karen.

Yes, it was very draining, especially the next chapter or two as Sam goes through the roller-coaster of fresh grief. Stormy times ahead for both brothers.

So glad you loved that little scene in the Impala with Dean trying to connect to his grieving little brother.

Jules

Awesome! Loved Sam's anger directed into his work-out session. And Dean, of course, eager and willing to jump in and train with Sam.

You draw me so deeply in...I forget I'm sitting in a computer chair...reading words. When I get to the end of a chapter...and the words have run out... it's like falling into a dark pit...and I'm like wait! What happened? Where'd everybody go. Does that make sense?

Onward,
Karen

Author's Response:

Finally got around to logging myself back in....sorry about that.

I actually bounced back and forth between the Pilot and Wendigo to get where Sam was at, and he was showing a lot of pent-up anger after Jess died. So I just tapped into that, and the fact that Sam's very revenge-driven, like his father. I figured he'd want to get back into training to be able to hit back hard once he found his target.

Thank you so much - that is a beautiful thing to say. I'm really touched that I can pull you in so deeply to one of my stories.

Hugs,

Jules

You displayed Sam's pain so beautifully. A pain that can't be measured and can never be washed away.

And Dean...giving Sam all his support and love...also...immeasurable.

This story is a treasure!
Onward,
Karen

Author's Response:

Thanks, Karen,

Think this was the funeral chapter, wasn't it? When Sam collapsed, I actually based that on a real-life experience - my Pop did just that very thing at my Nanna's funeral. If my husband hadn't caught him and held him up, he'd have hit the ground. It really shook me, seeing my grandfather like that - completely overcome by his grief. And Sam feels things so deeply, it made sense that he'd have a similar reaction.

Thanks once again - I'm glad you're getting so much out of the story.

Jules

Powerful, vivid, how you describe the remains of the apartment, and how that makes Sam feel.

You really show us the price he paid through this story!

Damn!
Karen

Author's Response:

I've never thought of Sam as the selfish brat some people see him as. I've always seen him as someone conflicted and in pain, and lashing out. And I sympathised with him in his quest for normal and safe - something which unfortunately he could never have. And he really loved Jess, so seeing the apartment gutted would have had been so hard for him.

Remembering too, that Sam, even though he's a fully trained hunter, was barely out of his teens when the fire took Jess. He had a lot on his young shoulders from a very early age. I'm surprised he's coped as well as he has, actually.

Thanks so much.

Karen

Author's Response:

Thank you, Karen.

It had been ticking away in the back of my mind for quite a while, wondering what had happened during that week they spent in Palo Alto. But I'd always assumed that there had been lots of stories about that time, so I didn't need to add my two cents' worth.

But the bug bit, so I had to write it. And it was a little theraputic for me as well, working through the stages of Sam's grief. I'm so glad it touched you.

hugs,

Jules

Super Winchester adventure.

We were treated with a little bit of everything. Hurt/ comfort/ action.

Even John got in on the act! Nice touch -- by the way -- really nice!

And thank you for the nature lesson, and trip down memory lane. (I enjoyed that most of all. )

When I was ...oh ... younger...LOL...I had a chick-a-dee that I did the same thing with that Sm did with the dove. Only I used sunflower seeds, and took me like a month, but I got the little fellow to fly to my hand and feed anytime I would go outside and call to it...'Dee...dee...dee.'

Nieghbors probably thought I was a dork...but I loved that free flying bird. Thanks for the memories!

Karen

Author's Response:

Thanks so much, Karen.

When my aunt and I used to go camping, we'd feed the birds that came around the tent - there was a magpie couple who visited a couple of times a day. The female would walk right into the tent and stand beside us while we got them something to eat, but the male was a bit shy - he'd hang back a fair bit. But there's just something really special about earning the trust of something essentially wild that's hard to put into words. But it's a pretty awesome feeling.

So thrilled that you enjoyed the story, hun. And yep, there was a bit of everything wasn't there? John's bit was a last-minute addition, and I wasn't sure it would work, but everyone seemed to like it, so...*shrugs and surreptitiously wipes brow*...

Thanks again!

Twas an excellent story!

I love popsicle-Sammy!

And Cas..."They are not very tuneful," Castiel observed.

Ha ha ha!

I'd love to see this as an episode. One of top five types of stories to read -- is the boys on a hunt -- in the great outdoors!

Thank you yet again...for a super fun time!
Karen

Author's Response:

LOL - so pleased that you loved Popsicle!Sammy. He's almost as good as drunk!Sammy, isn't he?

Thanks so much, Karen. I'm so chuffed that you loved this. Oh, Cas' line - well, I had to have a little fun amongst all the seriousness. And we can always trust Cas to play the perfect 'straight man'. He's made for it.

Ah, well, you can also thank my wonderfully talented beta, Ziggy, for the outdoor scenes - she described to me in perfectly vivid detail what it's like to walk through snowy woods. She even had pics of the woods near her home so I could see. Being in Queensland, we don't get snow - if we did, we'd think there was another ice age coming - lol. Lovely banner, too. I find the banners totally set the mood for me. I study each one before, during and after I read your stories! Just an awesome team you have!

Author's Response:

I do have a wonderful back-up team - auntie Chris with the banners, and my SN sis with the beta-ing. And for Here At, I had a co-author, Petra, who lives just over an hour from me and is a great friend.

And last August, we all piled into my tiny little home office with red wine and I can't remember what else, and toasted our team effort as I posted up Here At's epilogue.

I can't do this without my support crew any more.
