The elder hunter sat back in the chair to appraise his sibling. It had been a tense three days since Sam had been pronounced fit enough to leave Bobby's panic room after his spectacular fall off the wagon during their run-in with the Horseman Famine, and the resulting detox. He wasn't fully recovered, as evidenced by his shaking hands, the gauntness of his features, and haunted, sunken eyes ringed by dark bags that accentuated the unusual paleness of his skin. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Love, love, love the time period you chose. Good call!

Dean’s heart grew heavy with the burden of it all. The bond they’d once shared was gone, burned up in the heat of betrayal and bad decisions. They’d been trying to build another, but it was a constant uphill battle with the forces of heaven and hell intent on steering them into their predestined roles on opposite sides of a cosmic battle that would see the whole planet turned to a cinder.

Sometimes Dean found himself wondering why they kept trying. But then he’d look at his brother, and remember the kid he’d virtually raised, the kid he’d gone to hell for, and realise he had to keep fighting.

Such a poetic, fluent words to describe their relationship at this point. Great job. I could feel the tension...the pain.

OMG that last chapter was read with both my hands clenched into tight fists.

Breath-taking work!

I don't know how ...but I guess we all have to wait till next week.

Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!

Karen

Author's Response:

Hi, Karen!

Whumpage galore in this one, my friend! I'm so thrilled you're enjoying it so far. And I've got some lovely evil cliffies planned for later chapters - lol.

Yes, season five angst...well, there was quite a lot to mine there. The boys were at a very low ebb, everything was against them, and time was running out to stop the apocalypse. And issues...issues up the wazoo! I figured that this would fit just nicely after My Bloody Valentine, while Sam would still be recovering from Famine's little 'snack' and both brothers feeling more tense than usual.

Hope you have unclenched your hands during the week, because I feel you're going to need them for the second chapter - LOL.

Happy clenching!

Astounding work!

 Exciting!

Dean and the images of him on the bridge staring down at his fallen brother...superb and vivid image.

And now Sammy is in even more trouble at Dean's hand.

A real rush reading this!

Can't wait again for next Friday.

And please may I say Chris's banner is also astounding. I always say a picture is worth a thousand words and her banners do just that. Tell the story. It's be so neat if she could illustrate your stories. Each chapter with its own art.

And Ziggy...always so encouraging and helping the words to pop off the page!

I can gush all night!

Love it. Love you guys!

Karen

Author's Response:

Hi, Karen,

LOL - I told Chris about the banner per chapter...she sort of made spluttering noises - lol.

And yep, I've really thrown Sammy in off the deep end, and not just off the bridge, either. Dean's baby bro has now got a bullet hole in him, courtesy of big brother, and the monster-of-the-week is still on the loose out there in the storm and the dark...stalking the boys....*cue scary music*

Hope you enjoy chapter three, hun!

“You – you got shot, man.”

“S-since when – fuglies have guns?”

“It was...uh...friendly fire,” Dean admitted, feeling the heat of embarrassment on his face as he shrugged back into his wet garments.

Sam stared at him in confusion.

“I shot you.”

“Wha’ for?”

“I was tryin’ to shoot the fugly.”

“Y’ missed.”

“I can see that, asshat!”

Adore that brotherly exchage!

This story is spectacular! One of my all time favorite things to read -- the boys in the wilderness...and fighting for their lives...exciting!

Thank you so much for all your hard work on this!

Karen

Author's Response:

I've thrown everythng at this fic, Karen. Wilderness, storm, smart monster, wounded boys, darkness....have I left anything out? If I have, it's probably coming up in a future chapter - lol.

So thrilled that you're enjoying it, my friend.

Whaaaaaaaaaaa!

You are evil! But I love it and you!

Such an adventure. Dean has his hands full...going to take a lot of doing to get Sam to help.

Awesome story!

Waves back!

Karen

Author's Response:

I am evil. And I enjoy it. And what makes it more fun with a fic like this is that my wonderful beta is a Sam-girl....*grins wickedly*...you can imagine Sarah's response to all these evil cliffies, since she gets them a chapter at a time and I don't give my plot away unless I'm stuck on something!

And yep, you're right, my friend - Dean's going to have his hands very full indeed, trying to get a badly-damaged Sam out of the woods. Especially as I don't think either of them are fit to tackle that bridge again....

Dun-dun-dunnnnnnnnnnnn!

Whaaaaaa! What happened to chapter five?

Love,

Karen

Author's Response:

Oops......sorry....*puppy eyes*

Real life threw me a few curves over the last week and a bit, but I'm back, and chapter five is about to go up.

*ramps up puppy eyes*

Forgive me?

So hope things are better for you!

 Yahoo! You are back.

 Awesome chapter.

Nice twist.

Sam missing from his sick bed.

Whaaaa!

I have no clue...and can't wait to find out.

So much fun! Love your Sammy Whampage!

Hope to catch up with the next chapter soon.

Thank you so much for all your hard work in keeping us fans happy!

Karen

Author's Response:

They are getting there, Karen, thanks for that. Over the flu finally, just have the residual soreness and tiredness now.

Yep, Sam's done a runner....or something's done a runner with Sammy! Glad you're still on for the ride, hun.

I so wanted that on the show!

Thank you for filling in the blanks....Sam telling Dean about the demon blood.

 Such fantastic storytelling!

Adored the scene in the parking garage best of all....

Thank you for this lovely piece of joy!

Karen

Author's Response:

Hi, Karen,

Yeah, I was waiting for that, too, but it didn't happen on-screen. Don't know if Sam told Dean "off-screen" or not, but it was a loose thread in my mind that needed snipping off, as it were.

So thrilled you loved the little confrontation between escaping Sam and determined Dean - lol. Poor Sammy, he just couldn't catch a break, could he? But at least big brother's got him now, and has put his mind at rest on a few things.

"I just sent ‘em to Dean Winchester. He's gonna be real pleased to know that you're so close to where he's at right now. Especially after he found out about that little visit you and your buddy Tim paid to his brother."

You know what they say abuot payback! So great Cas, Bobby, and Dean all had a say!

Awesome story.

Hope you are feeling much better.

Thank you so, so much for all your time and effort and hard work. To you and to Chris and To Zig! You guys always deliver with a punch! That's a good thing!

This was so much fun! And one I will read over and over again for a long time to come!

Hugs to all!

Karen

Author's Response:

Hi, Karen,

Yep, payback's a bitch - LOL. I couldn't resist calling in the troops to give Dean a hand with said payback, knowing he couldn't cover all that distance in one night and still get back to Sam before he woke up and needed some more painkillers.

Thank you for reading. We're thrilled to have given you a fun ride.

hugs

Jules
