Unfortunately I got into SPN a little late in the game due to lots of circumstances that I don't want to bore you with but being late to the game doesn't make me any less of a fan.  I had no idea I could love two fictional characters as much as I love Sam and Dean.

As for the writing part, I've always wanted to write....ever since I can remember.  In elementary school, when we had to write sentences with our spelling words, I wrote stories.  I wrote plays for my classmates which my teachers encouraged us to act out for the class.  Unfortunately those boring circumstances I mentioned earlier....they got in the way of my writing.  So, I hadn't really written anything in years until I wrote my very first fanfic for SPN.  Nothing had inspired me to write in a long time.  I thought the desire was gone but thanks to Eric Kripke, Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki and all the wonderful SPN crew I have discovered a whole new world.

Thanks to SPN I have made many new friends that I hope to meet someday.  I have discovered the joy in writing again and I have fell passionately in love with the best television show since....well, ever.

If you're interested:  I live in Tennessee.  I work on a college campus. I have a cat named Winchester and I have a beautiful daughter who is 24.  Life is good!

Feel free to send me a message anytime you'd like to chat!  I love making new friends and have made some great ones here!

Another good one, Jules!  The title pulled me in for this one but when I started reading it I thought, "No way is Sam trying to get him to say love."  The only other word I could come up with was lost.  How funny that it was losing pool to a girl!

I love the part in the first chapter where Sam is in the cold room and Dean says he'll get him out and both boys have their hands pressed flat against the glass.  Lovely moment.

Your description of Sam in the hospital bed was very vivid.  I could imagine him laying there with all those tubes and how scared Dean must have been.

"A calloused hand brushed gently across Sam's forehead, sweeping his bangs away from his eyes. No, Sam decided, Dean never did have to say the other ‘L' word. He lived it, instead."  I love this.  It's so true.  I always say actions speak louder than words.  You can tell someone you love them all day long but if you don't show it, it means nothing.  Sam knows Dean loves him without Dean ever having to say a word.

Hugs,

Sonya

Author's Response:

You are motoring through the back catalogue!

I loved writing this one, actually, because it was fun building up to that moment when Dean admitted his particular "L" word. And you were right - it was "lost".

Sam in the hospital was the result of some pretty detailed help. And since she gave me so much meat to play with, I just had to include it all, right down to the last tube.

And I agree - they didn't need to say the other L-word....but I'm wondering since it's come out twice in season 5 so far, whether they actually do need to say it now, after everything that's happened.

Thanks, Sonya - I'm really pleased you got a kick out of this one.

Hi Jules!  I've banned myself from reading season five tags since I'm working on one but I just needed a fix to get me through the work day so I figured I'd read one of yours that I hadn't gotten around to yet.  This one was very appropriate.  Brought back the whole thing of home at the end of Swan Song.  Oh Lord, now watch me tear up while I'm at work!  I enjoyed this one and liked how Dean knew something wasn't right about the imposter Sam even though he wasn't even sure of who he was.

Author's Response:

Hi, Sonya,

There are a lot of them out there, that's for sure. I've read quite a few - some I've agreed with, some I haven't. I think the whole of fandom is just in so much shock over the ending that the emotions screamed for some sort of release.

I'll look forward to what you're cooking up over there.

Thanks for that - this was just one of those little one-shots that came out of nowhere. Inspired, weirdly enough, by the smell of blood from a cut ankle. My mind's a freaky place sometimes. Glad you loved the home thing, and yes, even more poignant now after Swan Song. *sniffles*....note to self - buy more tissues when I go shopping....

I like how Dean's actions mirrored John's from ten years earlier.  Dean has been Sam's father, mother, brother and best friend.

I am surprised Dean even knows the song "I believe I can fly"--doesn't seem like it would be playing in the cassette player of the Impala.  Must have heard that from Sam's iPod.  :)

Author's Response:

Well, like I told Kiara, it was from the movie Space Jam, and it's likely that Dean being bored in the motel room with John on a hunt and Sam at Stanford, might have caught the thing on tv one dark lonely night, and figured watching a kids' movie was better than talking to the walls.....

Thanks for that - yes, I was aiming for the symmetry of Dean as parent - and was quite prepared to throw Sam off a cliff twice to achieve it - LOL. Poor Sam.....

Oh my gosh, Jules.  I absolutely love this.  It made me laugh and cry at the same time.  I love how this is done from a total stranger's POV and the stranger is seeing what we love about these boys, their bond and their devotion.

The Christmas presents were just great.  Especially the paper clips for Dean.  Honestly, I laughed out loud.

My mom was in the hospital this past Christmas Eve and I feel really bad for the people who give up their holidays to help out other people.  But the thing that really got me was Grace and her brother.....yeah, I'm still crying about that one.  It's a long story.  I'll tell you some day if you ever want to know.

Thank you, Jules for a lovely story.

Hugs,

Sonya

Author's Response:

Thank you, Sonya.

I know I've done my job if I can wring those sorts of emotions from a reader. So glad you liked the Christmas presents. I couldn't resist the paperclips - lol.

My aunt's (Chris) first job was working in the staff dining room of the Royal Brisbane Hospital, and she worked the Christmas Day shift - I always thought it was so unfair, but I was just a kid at the time. So this was written as a sort of thank you to all who give up that special day to help someone else.

Grace and her brother Ben make another appearance actually, in Here At The End Of All Things. And that got to you? You know I'm going to ask now, don't you?

Take care, and have lots of hot chocolate while you're snowed in.

Awesome story!  So glad I joined this site and found your stories.  Poor Sammy just breaks my heart in this one.

Author's Response:

And hello again! You're bouncing around the site quite quickly - LOL.

Thank you for that. Have no idea where this came from - I'm like that with most of my stories - LOL - but amnesiac Sam was just too good to play with. And I had to admit, there were a few times, like when he was telling Dean that God didn't exist, that I had a tear or two while I was writing.

I'm a Dean woman through and through, but I love Sam, and it broke my heart to see his faith trampled into the dust all during Season 4, and then for him to find out he'd been a demon's tool all along - that was the final cruelty in my book. I'm really hoping for a huge restoration for Sam in S5.

Thanks again - I'm stoked that you enjoyed this one.

"And stop hugging me with your eyes," he groused.  Ha!  I loved this line.  Perfect way to describe Sam's puppy dog eyes when he's looking at his big brother in admiration.

I felt bad for Don and I love how Dean took it so personal when he didn't even know the man.  He's a true hero.

Author's Response:

Hi, Sonya,

LOL - that line started Sabine (Bia1007) on a whole research jaunt to find as many Sam eye-hugs as she could. She finally emailed me the results of that search a few weeks later, and the caps will be appearing in the next porn file.

Sadly, Don was always going to die - it wasn't a natural story progression or a last-minute thing. He was like the red-shirted security guards in the original Star Trek episodes - you just knew they were gunna get bumped off as soon as you saw them. I wanted to basically showcase not only Dean's softer side and his loyalty, even towards people he doesn't know, but also the switch for the brothers from being at each others' throats one second to snapping back together into the formidable team that they are in the next when danger strikes.

Dean's willingness to stand out in the middle of a storm, offering comfort to a dying man and then seeking justice for Don's death shows the true mettle of the complex man called Dean Winchester. The same as Sam being there as backup for his brother all the way, including the bar fight, shows his love and loyalty for his family, his innate sense of kindness and his need for things to be fair and right.

Thanks so much for reading, hun.

Jules

Really good chapter.  Sounds just like the brothers arguing.  And really, I've always thought both boys have a point.  I think they saw their Dad differently because of the way he raised them.  He made Dean into a soldier but he protected Sam.  I think because John and Dean both tried to protect Sam, it made him a little selfish.

I think John did the best he knew how with both boys.  He wasn't a hunter like Mary.  He knew nothing about the life.  I can imagine he spent many sleepless nights worrying about both of his boys and wondering if what killed Mary would come to get them also.

Author's Response:

Thanks Nancy - I agree totally- there's two sides here- neither right or wrong... but both colored by their POV and upbringing... and at the risk of the SamGirls- yep- I too think that Sam - being overly protected by both Dean and John DID become just a tad spoiled... but at the same time- I think there's nothing he wouldnt do for his brother as well- it just sometimes doesnt show quite as blatantly as it does with Dean.

Thanks so much for your kind reviews- and I'm glad you're enjoying the story. I hope you keep stopping by!
