So I figure it is about time I stopped being a chicken and introduced myself, after all I have been inflicting my scribbling on you for a while now!!!!

My name is Abi, Abigail - when I am in trouble with my Mother!! I live in Merry England near Northampton (yes I paddle on THAT side of the pond!). I have one beautiful Son - who may well be the coolest person I ever met, and I have only known him for three years!!!!! LOL! And my understanding husband - who rolls his eyes resignedly at my Supernatural obsession, but indulges me anyway!

I have to say Supernatural is not my usual viewing - well not without a cushion in front of my eyes, but how can you ignore those Winchesters? It would take a stronger woman than I!!!! Finding this site has been something of a blessing. As both an avid reader and a closet scribblerI have found this site and the people I have met here to be a real treasure. It is probably a large part of the reason I came out of the shadows and had the nerve to scribble and to my HUGE astonishment - people read it!!!!! Now I am an absolute review junkie - but watching the read count go up on my stories is still the biggest thrill! So I guess I will end with a Thank you to all who take the time to read on this site - those that read and those that review, you don't know how much that makes a writers day!!!! And to the many, many far more awesome talents than mine - you feed my imagination and provide my escape, your skills are truly inspiring and you deserve the title "Unscripted Genius".

Birdie.... birdie .... birdie..... what can I say, you bowled me over!!!!! I am sorry it has taken me a while to find this - I must have missed it- don't quite know how with that amazing banner and all!

I am a little stuck for where to begin - where can I not compliment you on something, would be a far simpler review to write. Your timing, style and even construction of prose was breath taking. You sent out your grindingly dark imagery with perfectly sculpted phrasing and the construct of the piece itself. I loved how you took us through his defenses almost like the demon horde were eroding it - Dean is unprepared for the torment that waits on him... he "thought he'd known" pain and fear, but you bring both to life on the whole new scale of hurt Dean is experiencing them on. Adored;

"The top notes of his pitiful song were wrought by the sporadic jolts of cruelty that pulsed pain of even greater intensity down the hawsers, governing his obscene aerial ballet."

It just dripped tears and pain - how can you go there and take us so effortlessly with you? Equally breath stealing was;

"They showed him, over and over again, the ruination of all he held dear and when he begged for mercy they screeched their pleasure and rewarded him with images of death and wanton destruction born of his failures."

Of course his darkest fears are born out of his insecurities about what he views as his failures - I think you have that right on the money.

Now that you have stripped away Dean's resilience and unshakable stoicism and cast iron 'Game Face' - you bring this baby home with the smallest glimmer of everything that is heroic in this man. He uses the ills in his life to build on and become stronger - I was blown away by the way YOU found to express that;

"It was his waking agony and his sleeping nightmare. And yet it would become

his strength

his redemption

his salvation. "

Knew you wouldn't take us to the pit and abandon us there!!!! The way he fights back converting the darkness with the strength of the constant light at his very core, brought tears to my eyes. Your description of his use of his memories of his Mother and of course Sam were nothing short of genius and absolutely true to character I feel. Loved how you stacked those pillars that he his bracing his soul against together ;"Love", 'Redemption", "Salvation". all add together and form this impenetrable shield bound by one word "Sam".

You have surpassed all the high expectations I already have of you - the feel of this piece was astonishing - I read it twice and dare say will come back to it again. You have an awesome talent - what more is there to say - BRAVO Lady!!!!

Author's Response:

Abi.

What can I say? That is such a sweet, throughtful and generous review. It was a different piece for me to write and it feels very personal. Which makes it all the more special that you liked it. You know how I admire your descriptive talents and so to have approval from yourself is a pleasure indeed.

Thanks, you have made me very happy  bev xx

Your scene setting in this chapter is very good - you put us right back into that time and firmly in each of the brothers heads. The tension, between them because of the deal is made worse by the attack on Sam and you go right to the heart of Dean's tension by having Sam refuse at first to talk about it.

Loved the description of Dean waiting out his brothers silence because he can read him THAT well. The other nice touch was that there was a slight thaw in Sam's cold front when the Impala was in danger, very nicely done. You depict the bond as fluently with gestures and actions as you do with words.

I am a little suspicious of this Dave guy though - maybe just my suspicious nature though!!!

On to Ch2!

Author's Response:

Thank you for that. When I set a story, I go back to the episodes either side of it in the time frame, and watch to see where the boys' heads are and what's happening, just so I can get it right. Glad it pays off.

Ahh, Dave - well, you could be onto something there - then again, I could just be messing with your mind. I tend to do that - it's my love of Agatha Christie mysteries. Thanks so much for reading...Jules

NO WAY! Dean leaving Sammy without a word?!!!! No Way!

Ok now there are two suspicious characters Jed and Dave - both almost perfectly partnered to the interests and characters of each brother. Hmmm coincidence?

Love the way you build the misunderstanding and escalate the argument on both sides. There is a very natural ebb and flow to the way you write your brotherly disagreements, and using one word to call a truce and signal ceasefire was perfect. Only the Winchesters could use "Jerk" and "Bitch" as words of comfort!!!LOL.

Many questions - need some answers!!!! Great chapter!

Author's Response: Thanks so much. And no, Dean wouldn't really leave without a word. Ah, so now you're suspicious of both OC's - lol. And I agree, only the Winchesters could use Jerk and Bitch as words of endearment. Hope you get some more answers from the next chapter, but knowing me, I think you'll only have more questions - lol....Jules

OK are we to assume that mean broody, possibly psychotic killer, black alter ghost guy just let Sam go after tossing him around like a rag doll? I am betting no.

Love the spot on sarcastic tone you have going with Dean - especially when he nails Sam for lying and going on a hunt alone.

They are both getting a little hands on - crossing lines that neither probably goes near. Sam's final comment about Dean's possible alternative deal was definitely no holds barred.

On to next chapter - as I can't leave Dean this way!!!! ;-)

Author's Response: Yes the gloves are coming off, and Sam's going for the jugular at times - but is it him, or something else? Glad you're still enjoying it...Jules

Wow Sammy coming out swinging - Dean must think he's in the twilight zone!

My earlier Dave weariness is dissipating a little - he sure is handy with that shot gun. Loved big brother to the rescue, even the drug him first answer questions later tactic is touching ... don't you find it amazing exactly what all you'd let those green eyes get away with?!!!LOL! But seriously, you have a really accurate feeling take on both brothers - I lean towards Dean myself and sometimes find Sam a bit challenging to write, so your work is really good research, as well as a damn good read!!!!! Great Job author, loved the action in this scene - convincing. Can't wait to see what Bobby makes of it all!

Author's Response:

So, you're back on Dave's side? LOL. Yes, Dean is really struggling with this - he knows it's definitely not his brother, but he's not sure where it's all coming from.

I'm a Dean girl, too. But I have an affinity for Sam - I understand him, because I have similar traits - not the whole freaky psychic thing, mind you. When I first started writing I had a hard time with Sam - and I was so worried about getting him wrong, which is rather easy to do. Sam's a softie, but not a wimp. He's quite complicated, actually. He's got as many layers as his big brother. But I do have a soft spot for Dean's little brother.

As for Dean, yes, it's amazing what those green eyes can accomplish - LOL. I'll just go over here and swoon in the corner - feel free to come drool with me. Oh, and please call me Jules - everyone else does...Jules

Soooo ungentlemanly!!!!!! Great Cliffhanger - really not expecting that one!

Sam's rage is interesting - only triggered by Deans presence. The way you have both brothers secret fears woven into your plot is brilliant and adds plausibility and weight to your story. Sam's request for holy water was touching - it really is his worst nightmare isn't it? And Dean confiscating the laptop from his brother reveals his worst fear to a tee.

Dean heading back for his wallet - hope he catches the bar brawler in time. Great story - loved the way you are simmering the tension and drawing out the mystery with your perfect pace. Can't wait (but there are no more "next" buttons to click so I'll have to!!!!!! Damn!) for next chapter - thanks for the read!

Author's Response:

Definitely not the Marquis of Queensbury rules, was it?

Yes, it is Sam's worst nightmare - that, and losing his brother in a year's time. And Dean's is of course Sam fiddling with the deal and getting himself killed. Ah, there is a "next" button very soon - thanks so much for reading, and for your wonderfully insightful comments....Jules

Wonderful chapter. Your inspiration for Jim must come from a very spiritual source - he is such a lovable character, and I am glad you keep him in the picture, because he does nothing but deepen it. I found the talk about heaven and hell very evocative - you give such depth to Dean.

Taking the journey with Caleb and Sam is building that relationship with stronger walls - awesome writing pulling the past and present together. Overall brilliance Ridley!!!

Wow - love the fact that Jim will return to Dean when he needs him, also the hints at the future are nicely worked in there.

Bobby figuring out what had happened gives a nice counterbalance of opinion to Sam and Caleb. Caleb down right as a near demon - wonder what happens if he descends any further?!!!! Can't wait for the showdown!

Loved the unearthly reunion!!!! The face off between Caleb and Rose had me guessing there - especially with all that "Auntie" "Nephew" stuff. Will that confrontation be more final for Rose next time? She is a fantastic bad-girl - but I was so itching for Caleb to fulfil his and Sam's fondest wish and rip her head off!!!!! But I more than trust your storytellers sense of direction. Looking out for the next one - always worth the wait!!!!!

Wonderful story - yes there was indeed a great "payoff" at the end - Sam and Caleb laying foundations in their "bitchfest"!!!!! Caleb has such a way with words - loved how you unpicked their intertwined histories and the masterful way both you and Tida pull this AU together - if I've said it once - I am going to carry right on saying it, this is a piece of ART and I gain something new everytime I read either of your work, it is always time well spent. Will be hanging out to read Tida's next installment and regularly lurk on Sensue's site and the Hunters Tomb.

So glad for that Kleenex warning. This did both the M n M nation and Dean's awesome brother skills justice!!! Of course Dean would find a way to make Sam's special day, special one last time - Winchesters have this way of reaching beyond Hells boundaries don't they?!

Enjoyed the snap shot of Bobby fulfilling the Father figure role for Sam here. Think your version of the older hunter was perfect, ever practical ever watchful Bobby is the safest pair of hands to catch Sam after Dean falls.

Lastly you capture Dean's tone effortlessly, with small bittersweet brother notes - Dean having read Sam's diary, the ever present "watch out for the car" reminder, and the overall effect of that letter is just so heartwarming .... and throat choking!!!! My favorite line was your very well put;

"You brought so much light and laughter into my world, I hate to think that I took it all away from yours when I left."

Thanks for the read. Congrats on the feature!!!!

Author's Response:

Thank you for the marvelous, detailed review. Saying I captured Dean's tone is a great compliment, because I am inclined to be more Sam-like in my thinking (even tho I'm a Deangal).   Thanks again for the lovely review!  Sue

This is the second time I have read this and still love it. Your Brotherhood AU  is just so satisfying because of moments like this one, the way you write about the bonds between these hunters - especially Caleb and Dean. The idea that Dean has someone to watch over him like he looks out for Sam is just genius. These treks back into the boys past tie in with the Characters in the series so well that your stories are always plausible and capture the essence of the Winchesters (making them more rounded and three dimensional if anything!). Thanks for the great read.

This was amazing work - I guess you would call this a songfic? (I am still working on the lingo somewhat.) It was not forced or flooded with flowery angst and melancholy and because of that it broke my heart that much more convincingly. When you think about Sam's situation post NRFW it is this old and desolate place, the same one you bring to life in that Kansas cemetery.

Loved the gesture of the three fallen Winchesters lying together at the end of it all - Sam deluding himself because he is not ready to face the full truth, that though the battle is lost Dean's soul is still a POW. The way Sam gives his mother her son back - by burying the amulet was one of the most touching moments for me as was his comment about Dean deserving that Angelic cavalry that never turned up.

Just all over awesome, Bambers, well written and truly moving. Thanks.

Wow - this is so moving - you want to comfort Dean, there is just so much guilt lying round him, I am intrigued as to who this could be!!!!! Your descriptions are vivid and actually just enforce the feelings of helplessness and grief he seems to be experiencing.

Loved this "Someone else asked the question, used his lips, his breath to form the sound" - dark and true, like much of this first chapter - your empathy for that time just before you let go of someone is amazing.

Onto next chapter - as I can't wait to see who this is.

OMG - Nice twist! Very clever having Sam give the reader the fuller picture, with his take on events. This chapter had some amazing use of language, powerful, lyrical in places, loved;"brittle light, glittering in wrecked green eyes" and "clutching the wheel, like it was the only solid thing in a world turned fragile and unsteady." these and others like them just draw you in.

Sam's "handling" of his brother was just amazing - wanting to be there but waiting on Dean to direct the way and allow that ever ellusive Winchester hug. The last paragraph was so touching, Dean finally leaning on Sam, and Sam being more than up to the task.

Very SAD, BUT so very worth the read!!!!! Thank you.

This looks to be a gem from the outset and I am very excited about where you will take this (seemingly) time warped town.

As much as I love how you do action Tida the real satisfaction in the Brother AU is the very real way you paint the ordinary lives of these extra ordinary individuals - they are just so accessible, despite their job!!!!! Being haunted by her after the fire was like his last link to her and like leaning into her touch even though it's painfull (brillient idea there!!!) - it's something of Jess and that's good enough for Sam.

You captured a beauitful 'what if?' here and I agree with your reasoning that these spirits were "twisted" due to Lilith's spell. Nice Job.

Author's Response: Thank you, glad you enjoyed it :) I quite liked all the contrasts in the idea, and I've always been a sucker for a nice visual :)

Great a fellow Brotherhood fan!!!!! Liked that you were brave enough to tackle this part of the story from Caleb and other Brotherhood members (Mac) point of view. I have been itching to see what line this would take and will be keeping up with your take. Thought Mac's response to Caleb dreaming about Dean when they thought he was dead was pretty spot on - it made me smile!

Just one thing though - I thought Caleb would be angry at Sam for keeping the fact that Dean was alive from him ? Or is it that he is sooo happy that Deuce is back that nothing else matters?

Good start. Thanks for the read.

Author's Response:

thank you so much for your reveiw!!

I really wanted to do a brotherhood story that go's along with season 4 and I thought that it would be interesting to people and glad to see that it was!

You will see that in later chapters as the season progresses on, but I wanted to make this chapter kinda happy and have Calb happy that Dean is back, rmemeber that this chapter takes place one day after Dean came back, Sam probably wouldn't have the time with everything else that's going on. But don't worry, you will see a mad Caleb! And there will be some fighting between Sam and Caleb because of that!

any I've babbled long enough, glad you liked the story and stay tuned to the rest of my second chance series!

:) Jess
