So I figure it is about time I stopped being a chicken and introduced myself, after all I have been inflicting my scribbling on you for a while now!!!!

My name is Abi, Abigail - when I am in trouble with my Mother!! I live in Merry England near Northampton (yes I paddle on THAT side of the pond!). I have one beautiful Son - who may well be the coolest person I ever met, and I have only known him for three years!!!!! LOL! And my understanding husband - who rolls his eyes resignedly at my Supernatural obsession, but indulges me anyway!

I have to say Supernatural is not my usual viewing - well not without a cushion in front of my eyes, but how can you ignore those Winchesters? It would take a stronger woman than I!!!! Finding this site has been something of a blessing. As both an avid reader and a closet scribblerI have found this site and the people I have met here to be a real treasure. It is probably a large part of the reason I came out of the shadows and had the nerve to scribble and to my HUGE astonishment - people read it!!!!! Now I am an absolute review junkie - but watching the read count go up on my stories is still the biggest thrill! So I guess I will end with a Thank you to all who take the time to read on this site - those that read and those that review, you don't know how much that makes a writers day!!!! And to the many, many far more awesome talents than mine - you feed my imagination and provide my escape, your skills are truly inspiring and you deserve the title "Unscripted Genius".

LOL!!!! LOVED this -:

"cracking me across the face like a hormonal woman? Damn Sam, talk about adding insult to injury,”

Sammy bitch slapping Dean was a nice offset to Demon yellow eyed Sam, taunting his brother with his inevitable turn to the dark-side.

Intrigued by the wailing Baby - what pearls of Bobby wisdom did Sam miss - so many questions .... got to move on to some answers!!!

Author's Response:

Some answers to come, only I'm thinking they only create more questions.  Glad to hear that you still love it, and man, I'd love to bitch slap Dean too... sounds like fun. (Yeah, it's past my bedtime)

It would appear that this trap is air tight then? Dean can not leave (adored the tearing flesh description of Dean's pain) nor can he stay in the room that seem (literally) too blood thirsty for his own good!!!! I do believe you ARE an evil genius, and as such I can't wait to see which "bad guy" you decided upon!!!!! Your authors note made me laugh as you have appeared to know exactly where your tale was going!!!!! Skillful stuff!!!!

Author's Response:

Evil genius... that's a lot of pressure to live up to, but I'll do my best to try.  Honest to god, I had three or four different baddies to choose from and it really did take me that long to pick one... guess that makes me the hormonal woman that Sam needs to bitch slap... please.(Yep, still way past my bedtime.)

Your story continues to rock!!!!!

Author's Response: Thank you again for the wonderful compliments and I most definitely hope the remainder of the weirdness doesn't disappoint.  Thanks for reading and reviewing... it means tons!

Ridley, you must get tired of hearing this from me but.... yep... you have done it again! Hugely insightful piece with witty clever dialogue that never wavers in painting a picture of your three dimensional characters. The look behind John's eyes is amazing, his regret is touching, the fact that he feels there is no other choice in how to behave is maddeningly tragic. How you paint this all too human flawed hero - brilliant.

Loved that just about everyone called John on his methods of training; Bobby's blunt advice on how to truly get the point across to Caleb and Dean, Dean actually leveling an accusation at his Father and Caleb finally letting go of his Hero worship of John; though I believe he will always respect his mentors skills and commitment, if not always his methods. Hell, even Sam was giving him grief by ignoring him! The genius in your story is that you laid bare all the reasons that people find it hard to maintain sympathy with John, but then like your characters, you give us those small grains of humanity that show us that this man is worthy of our sympathy. Loved that he threw up after the guilt trip he lay on Dean, and the fact that he felt grief over the loss of Caleb's rose coloured glasses. This summed it up for me;

"He knows it is as much a product of his success as a mentor as it is a tribute to his failure as a parent"

Great story- also enjoying To the Victor enormously. Thanks for the read.

Tida, a Brotherhood story, whether a one-shot, tag or multi chapter is a thing to relish, this one was no different. Like the new Caleb-Sam dynamic and both of them showing distinct shades of John here.

Being a Brit, we haven't gotten to Jus in Bello, yet but that's what I love about the Brotherhood AU, it cleverly joins two worlds and never fails to entertain. Your Character relationships, interaction and dialogue are probably the best I have ever read and you and Ridley write as if with the same pen! Seamlessly perfect!!! Nice job.

Author's Response: Thank you so much.  I hope when you see the ep, that this tag will do it justice by incorporating the Brotherhood AU.

Devastating. You have captured Sam's shock beautifully here, your description of the surroundings and all it communicates about life going on, only serves to deepen our empathy with Sam.

Dean permeates this whole story - the note... perfectly in character, short, sweet and predictably threatening when it comes to 'his baby', his method of exit clean, so Sam is spared no doubt, and of course calling Bobby to make sure his brother is ok. I am with you in the hoping that the deal IS broken, but here you have provided the reader with a haunting alternative, in keeping with the characters.

Wonderfully sad.... please change the music on your Ipod, before I run out of tissues!!!!

Loved this - and it's only your first attempt? The confident grasp you seem to have on Sam's character, does not give this away at all! LOL at drunken prissy Sam getting snotty with the Vampire!!! Very funny - Sam's habit of pointing out the 'obviously not sooo important right now', really worked well here. The fact that he is about to be bitten and takes offense at being called a runt was priceless!

Your portrayal of Dean was right on the money too - loved this line;

" Get the hell off him, my brother look like a Slurpee to you?”

There is a sharp edge to your writing that is witty and in keeping with the shows humor. Some of your narration just had me smirking;"After a few tinkle filled seconds" and "his knife wasn’t being very trusty at that moment as Sam quickly remembered he’d left it by his bed back at the motel."

Good start - amazing how you managed to squeeze in a tender brotherly moment between the two of them, the Vampires and that bacteria filled floor!!!!LOL!

Great ending, this whole side-trip into the Vampire world was VERY funny! Love your style of writing that combines off the wall humorous descriptive, with winning dialogue and some touching moments that don't go too far into the Chick Flick zone.

Dean got the best lines here (though Drunken Sammy's comic actions were a riot - especially the whole double take thing when Dean asked for the machete!!!!), and very in character. My favorites;

"I should have known you couldn’t handle all those Leprechaun shots you were knocking back. I only wanted you to taste one not pickle yourself in the stuff.” And enjoyed Sam's use of "incy, wincy" with the cross eyed twist!!!!

Your comic timing is perfect and love the surreal slants you go off on, like the sock and sandal wearing guy and Boris admiring Sam's prowess as a green Leprechaun drinker (more than a hunter?!!!LOL). Really superb job. Thanks for the read!!!!

Really enjoyed this one shot from Bobby's POV. What always makes me smile about Bobby, and what you have captured to a tee, is that although he lives like a hermit, looks like a drifter and does his damnedest to maintain that tough hard hunter exterior - he gets those boys. In a way he demonstrates better parenting skills than John sometimes - his recognises that Sam's heart lies in book learning and that maybe including him more would perhaps draw him into the hunting world better than ordering him there.

Liked the idea of him as the fourth emergency service. And when Sam mistakes Dean for his mother, very touching. The way you portray Bobby throughout this piece is heartwarming - he is a good friend to John , not wanting to judge him, but not willing to stand aside and see the boys suffer either.

Nice job.

Author's Response:

Thank you – I adore Bobby, he’s all gruff exterior but seemingly soft and squishy on the inside.

I don’t like to overly judgmental with John. Whilst I’ve never exactly seen him as ‘father of the year’ I like to believe that he did love his sons. I’m glad you liked this story, it was a bit of a rush job but I’m pleased with the end result. Liz x

Summary:

It was as if that other life had never exsisted; Dean had woken up in the morning to find himself in a room he didn't recognize, and the sounds of children's footsteps in the hallway. Bewildered, Dean had gotten up and opened the door to see two little girls running from two boys.

"Daddy!" one cried, the smaller of the girls.

Lovely Job. Just loved how you set it up, almost like the beginning of a new hunt, except of course how quickly Dean was willing to put aside the questions and just stay there. Who could blame him? Your perfect Winchester world was so wholesome and fit really well with the threads in the series. LOL at the classic "jerk/bitch" coming from the kids - of course Dean's daughter swears like a sailor ... bet she develops a wicked left too?!!!

Liked the use of music and (maybe?) the suggestion that it had influenced the direction of Dean's escapist dream. The way you stripped away all these happy components from him was wrenching as was Sam's very final - all too real sounding "We've got a job to do". As if the price of doing their job is their happiness and that  perfect world ... excellent work!

Touching, and cleverly written. You weave the half exposed threads in the story to make them appear familiar, and very plausible. Loved the twist - giving a voice to the least known Winchester.

Loved the idea that she had been the previous champion at Cold Oak - the YED reference to 'other generations' working well there. The parallel between her life and Sam's were cleverly written and pulled me in completely.

When she 'meets' the boys in HOME, was touched by the explanation for her message to her boys and the fact that the only way she could recognise Dean were the eyes. The fact that he reminded her of herself, and her mother - both sacrificed to the YED cause was eerie. But ultimately you end with the possibility of a happy outcome - lets hope so!!

PS. John and Mary together at last, nice.

Author's Response:

If John and Mary don't get a happy ending I'll be as bummed as if Sam and Dean don't get a happy ending!  Knowing Kripke though...  Hmm...

Glad you enjoyed it!

Anna, Finally made it over to review ... and SO glad I did because whatever alterations you made have SOLD this!!!!

This piece is stunning in its Dean like logic - the idea of there always being a choice is fundamental to his character - he is a 'all or nothing kind of guy' as you put it. Dean's 'all' is the courage with which he makes the decision to choose and with your clever inner monologue you lay this bear for us. Dean is not a soldier following Daddy's orders - he made the most profound choice of his life at the age of four, and all other actions and decisions seem to flow from that. Loved how you explained that. You had some amazing lines to go with all that convincing logic. Loved this;

"He understood choices. More than most he knew that no matter how easy or hard the initial plunge, the follow-through was a bitch. Was what kept you up at night."

But my favorite of the piece is the realisation that with the change coming over Sammy, his life long strategy must change too. Now his 'choices' don't merely exert his only form of control, but it's almost like ha has swapped roles with Sam - Dean chooses to believe in something higher... he is giving up some of his 'control' in exchange for hope.

"And most difficult of all, Dean had to choose to live for his brother instead of to die for him.

And pray it was enough."

Fantastic first fic - very deep stuff.

What an amazing POV - original, funny and touching. I love the way you give life to the Impala - the way her headlights misted when John left the boys after the Deva attack in Chicago or the small touches that put her in-sync with her driver; her tank grumbles like Dean's stomach. Brilliant!

Of course Dean is her favorite - after all she is his favorite Lady too!!

For me there is more than just a slight maternal touch - the way she looks out for them and worries about them, but there is always her overriding loyalty to Dean that makes it a more personal relationship. So many great images here and the Impala's interpretation of the hunts made for a great read. Dean and his baby definitely belong together! Great work, congrats on the feature!!!

Ridley, I have to confess I have read this in *the other place* - your awesome writing skills however ensure that I will be re-reading it and still be thoroughly entertained second time round.

Love the gruff face Caleb tries to throw on - he fights his feelings for those adorable Winchester brats every step of the way - I guess that's why it's such an unshakable relationship in later life. My favorite is the way Dean gives as good as he gets after Caleb point's out Sam is not HIS brother ;

"That's obvious," Dean snorted. "No horns. No tail. And he's not allowed to play with pitchforks."

LOL!!! This is just such a heartwarming scene - Jim trying hard to keep order in a house full of warriors, no easy job!!!!

I Absolutely fell in Love with Caleb Reeves after this story - if only Kripke's Dean had the benefit of such an awesome stand-in sibling!!!! The cleaning the bathroom scene is a perfect example of some of your very best Weechester moments. The way you bind Sam, Dean and Caleb together is just magical.

The thought of loosing Sam is such a horrible scenario hanging over all their heads - you outline their family dynamic so clearly in the first two chapters. The way Caleb finds himself slowly surrendering to it is both touching and hilarious - the way Mac and Jim hold in their Hallmark expressions at his interaction with sleepy Sammy - beautiful, and Dean's "Vegetable" comment is a classic. The age gap between Dean and Caleb is quite the chasm, but it is their shared past tragic experiences and their upbringing in the Brotherhood that sets the perfect setting for this bond to flourish.

Wonderful Chapter showing John in his role as Knight and mentor to Caleb. I love the way you have Mac's very human response to the influence another man exerts over his son. Liked the idea that John's "training" of Caleb in the early years was actually Winchester nannying Reeves!!! John and Caleb's relationship though macho on the surface is one of fierce loyalty. Love the banter between them here.

It's so touching that at eleven years old Dean has learned the art of handling Sam and knows he does it better than his father. Great job, John's misery is clearly laid out and the reasoning you give for his distant relationship with Sam is convincing. Thanks for the read.

Louey... hang on a sec...*wipes tears from eyes*...ok...

Where did that Beauty come from - hope you sell road maps!!!! That was amazing, clever, funny (scratch that - pee my pants hilarious!!), true to character and very deep. Yep I was pretty amazed with all the layers!!!

Firstly your descriptives and vivid imagination had me right there in the worst dump they had every been in. You really master the art of painting with words here. I went back and reread it - had to fight as hard as Dean not to judge John for leaving them there.

Secondly the way you characterise hormone driven Sam and "Put on a Happy face' Dean is brilliant. Love this part where you show that Sam is as in tune with his brother as Dean is with him;

"Sam knew when to listen to Dean, when to fight with him…even when it was okay to mess with his head and he KNEW when he was required to execute the perfect retreat. And now was that time."

Dean's attempt at keeping the fun going was brave and heroic. His fears that his Dad might forget them was palpable. You portrayal of John was right on the money I thought, a man so driven by his past that he is blinded by all else. He doesn't 'see' what he is asking of his boys, when he drops them off in order to drive on to his contact, but because of the small part of Mary that lives on in Dean he realises his mistakes. Found this line very true, sadly John's cure for the dangerous road they travel comes at a high price;

"He knew walking in there would put a halt to the fun, would turn both his boys back into men and he didn’t have the heart to do it straight away"

Finally - the tears.....LOVED the inventive brotherly sparing!!! I know you didn't take all the credit for this but it was just so funny there is enough Kudos to go round!!!! Sam finally stepping up to the 'suck it up' plate and hitting a home run!!!!

Fantastic one-shot that was so well delivered.

Author's Response: Wow, thanks Abi, what a great review and I'm so glad you enjoyed it...layers just seem to happen with these boys don't they, nothing is just simple and straightforward in Winchester-world...lol Thanks again...XX Louy

Enjoyed the fallout from the Benders - the way Dean still tries to rationalise his belief that Sammy warrants any measures to keep him safe, but the thought of Sammy thinking the same for him is unnatural somehow.  Loved the brotherly banter and your insight and portrayal of their relationship;

"Dean watched his brother struggle with his monstrous humanity and felt both sorry for him and extremely proud of him."

I don't think that Sam is the only one with a case of brotherly hero-worship going on. Nice job.

Wow, Anna, truly thought provoking and so deserving of it's feature. This comprehensive catalogue, pieces together, shred by touching shred the makings of these heroic characters. I enjoyed how you blended the material and emotional things both brothers carry. The way you plotted your descriptions was very clever - what they carry separately that defines them as individuals is laid alongside what they carry and uphold together as a hunting unit, as devoted brothers. Loved this;"the repetition of saying their brother's name like a prayer or a battle cry." It's a lot like the things they carry - simple but powerful. Each brother is for the other - the Cause and the Cavalry.

Your ending is so uplifting - I was really touched by this;"They carry each other's laughter in their heart on good days and they carry each other broken and bloody and weary on bad days."

You give such a clear picture of that road they have traveled and all the twists and turns they have taken together. Awesome job - Congratulations!!!!!!

This was a wonderful insight into the POV of such a great enigma... and his hat gets a mention too! Seriously though - I love the character of Bobby, he really did shine in AHBL2 and Mr Bever did such justice to the role. Your story takes it a step further and gives us an image of what Bobby may have gone through when one brother was lost and the other too far gone. The way he remains there for Dean, holding it all and instinctively knowing when to help and when to back off, is a really powerful picture of the depth of feeling he has for these boys - and your superb writing gives us all that and more. Loved your ending were Bobby realises this is probably the end for both brothers as "he knows in his heart that losing one means losing both". Great job - deserving of it's feature.

Just beautiful. What an inspired imagining of Sam's grief! Of course he would go in the opposite direction to the fallout Dean had experienced after Cold Oak. Loved Bobby's response;

"Bobby’s soul was bleeding for the loss of the man on the floor, the man he thought of as his own, his sorrow for one equalled only by his worry for the other. "

The way Sam cares for his brother as if he was still alive, taking care not to cause further pain;

"His touch was gentle, trying not to hurt that which no longer could be hurt. "

Just heart wrenching stuff - the last scene of the two of them on the bed damn near ended me. There was such a simple grace to the way you wrote Sam, it was amazing. Your ending was the perfect ending to this piece that impacts us in the same way Sam's grief impacted him - not with fireworks but ground shaking internal plate tectonics!

"...both brothers for the moment lost in their own personal hell."

Wonderful work author - well done on the feature!

What did I think?!!! Well pure brilliance as usual!!!! The way you conjure the Brotherhood world - both the big moments and the little ones like this is nothing short of masterful. I really do loose myself in everything you write - loved the "treat" story of the bear trap! Well done on braving the video footage - the descriptive were well worth it!!!! Awesome job Ridley!

I should be sitting in corner and rocking right now, because that is the level your story has taken me to - that was amazing. It was like distilled, concentrated suffering served up Dean style. You had some utter truths and darkly powerful images in there - loved Dean viewing himself as the condemned man on death row. The amazingly accurate way you depicted Dean's dark thoughts laid bare for us in a way he never would allow - how he is slowly being crushed by the darkness he has called home for a year - awesomeness!!!!!

So to the lines I loved - ok not all, I believe that plagiarism is still frowned upon!!!

Loved this - simple and utterly believable;"I'm strong...but just enough to take what's thrown at Sam and not enough for myself." The fact that Dean hears Sam cry himself to sleep and then cries himself - ughhh! The idea that it is like a "making a riveting show for those fugly sons of bitches", is like a twist of the knife for the reader as much as Dean. (You just don't let that boy up do you? LOL!)

You deliver such beautifully uncomfortable descriptive of Dean's state of suffering that we are right there with him - he only dreams of death and; "Blood pumps through (his) body so aggressively that it hurts - and finally one of my favorites;

"I'm suffocating on life and exhaling death".

This stark to the point line sums up this experience for Dean. You have hammered home the adage that anticipation is worse than the punishment ... unfortunately I fear for Dean, this is not going to be the case!

Can not believe that this was the type of gem you were sitting on Dru - so glad you decided to share with us! Great first fic - congrats on a truly deserved Feature!!!!

Abi.

Abi your review has left me breathless!!! The stars alone would make me jump for joy but your detailed review has made my week...to say I accurately depicted Dean's dark thoughts is the ultimate compliment! Thank you so much for taking the time to read it and point out some of your favorite line, which btw are some of mine too. I was so scared to shared this but now I am glad I did, to have such strong reactions to it is a blessing x THNAKS HUN
