Date: 11/07/08 Title: Chapter 4: Chapter 4 Wow, drunk Sammy is a feisty Sammy! He was so lucky to have Dean and Dave come to his rescue, he might want to remember that when he wakes up! Although he might not be so understanding about the sleeping pills, even if it was for his own good.. I feel so sorry for Dean, worrying about what that demon said as well as worrying generally about what the heck is going on. Let's hope Bobby has some ideas! Great chapter.

Here's hoping Bobby comes up with something although it might not be an issue of course, now Sam's gone and go himself cornered again! He needs tagging *eyeroll* Looking forward to the next chapter :)

Date: 27/07/08 Title: Chapter 6: Chapter 6 Awesome update and one major cliffie there - Sam stuck with a homicidal maniac and Dean faced with someone who knows who they are! You don't do things by half, do you? I feel so sorry for them both with all this tension, especially as it's making them throw out really cruel words at each other :( And now, just when Dean might have an idea, Dave thinks he knows who/what they are.. This is so not good! Even in the midst of the tension though, this made me chuckle: "Dad didn't - do something..." Giving a snort of annoyance, Dean shook his head as he came to a halt on the sidewalk. "Come on, Dean - of course he didn't. And even if he did, it would have happened right away, not two weeks later." He suddenly stiffened, glancing around, a dull flush colouring his cheeks. And I'm standing here talkin' out loud to myself like some freakin' nut job. That's just great. *lol* Poor Dean, it really is driving him crazy! Can't wait for the next chapter and hope you're feeling rested now after your unfortunate trip :) Author's Response: Hi, Michaela - no, I never do things by half - lol. I just jump in feet first and cross my fingers. And yep, it's really driving Dean mad what is going on - but he's onto the things trail now, so hopefully he'll rescue little brother before Sam gets into any more hot water....hopefully....Jules

Date: 03/08/08 Title: Chapter 7: Chapter 7 You know, even though you kindly let me read this first, I was still nervous when Dean was explaining themselves to Dave! *shakes head* I think like him I aged about ten years, although it was nice the way you tied it in with Detective Ballard. It's good to remember sometimes that they have one or two allies out there.. Nice twist with Sam having been suckered by the real evil ghost and although I was grinning during the exchanges part of me was thinking 'Dean, quit p*****g him off' when he was baiting Sam. And now he might pay for it.. Can't wait for the next chapter :)

Date: 08/08/08 Title: Chapter 9: Epilogue That was tied up really nicely. Love Dean's gift to Sam, especially given he owes his own amulet to his brother. Although I'm not sure Sam appreciated him almost dying to go back and get it! The whole impromptu birthday part was so sweet as well, and I really did like Dave. It's a shame his job offer was so bittersweet. I enjoyed the conversation they had although my heart was breaking for Sam - how must it be to have to wonder if your own father would have killed you? Thank goodness he has Dean is all I can say.. Speaking of which, since a friend in the US kindly got me the S2 companion for my birthday I was absolutely stunned that they had Sam die and resurrect on his birthday, thus meaning Dean died on that day one year later. That to me just seemed far too cruel :( I have really enjoyed this though and I will look forward to reading your next one when I get back from holiday, as I will already be on my way next Friday :) Author's Response: Thanks Michaela. Hope you have a wonderful time in Vancouver, and don't forget, if you come across the boys, you and I are sharing Jensen and Sarah's bagged Jared - hope your suitcase is big enough...and hope Terry doesn't mind... Yes, I was pretty blown away that Sam's birthday involved the death of each brother. Bet he won't be celebrating his 26th either, poor kid. Thanks for reading hon, and I'll chat to you soon.....Jules

Date: 08/08/08 Title: Chapter 8: Chapter 8 You know I can't believe I missed reading this one - I read the epilogue today and because I'd already seen your rough draft it made sense. Then I thought 'hang on, did I actually read the bit before this?'.. *shakes head* Anyway, great chapter. I loved Dean reassuring Sam while he came down from being 'controlled' and I felt so sorry for Sam though - it really is his worst nightmare, being used against his brother. I chuckled when he wanted coffee instead of going back to the motel though, and even more so at the 'that's not coffee' argument. My husband does that to me as I insist on a latte or some such when I do venture to have a coffee somewhere! That ending though - I would definitely have been on the edge of my seat had I not already seen the end! Oh, and this bit made me laugh so I had to quote it - I really do love Bobby: Tossing the shovel to the opposite side of the grave, Dean fished a lighter from his pocket with one hand while the other grabbed his cell. He pressed it to his ear, flinching at the flow of colourful language and frantic enquiries crackling from the speaker. "Uh - didn't know that - was physically possible, but - look - gotta go - call you back, okay, Bobby?" Author's Response: Glad you got a laugh out of Dean's little comment to Bobby. I just had to lighten the moment, especially since the boys had just beaten the crap out of each other. Ahh, the great coffee debate. I don't have that problem - my aunt has a quarter strength cappucino (I can hear Fredo gasping in horror all the way down here) and I have my usual soy cappucino so we're sweet. No coffee arguments here. Thought Dean would make the gesture to try to make his little brother feel better - lol. Even though he did get in a dig or two while he was at it.....Jules Summary:

Worth the second look though as it's really good, as always. Loved Sam taking care of Dean and channeling him at the bar, although I think he was too easy on the doctor. Talk about no compassion.. Off to read chapter 2!

Date: 31/08/08 Title: Chapter 2: Chapter 2 - Shockwave Oh dear, poor Sam really is on a major guilt trip and now Dean has inadvertantly added to it. I am really looking forward to Dean putting him straight though - loved this chapter and Sam taking such good care of his big brother :) Thanks Michaela - yes, Dean's put his foot in it without even realising. If only his eyes had stayed open a fraction longer, he might have seen that flinch. Thanks for that - Sam makes a pretty good big brother, doesn't he?....Jules

Date: 31/08/08 Title: Chapter 3: Chapter 3 - Fallout That was so sweet - just the right amount of emotion while still being 'Winchester'. I'm so glad Dean got the chance to tell Sam the accident wasn't his fault (which it wasn't) and I did giggle at drunk Sam. Although he is going to be the one needing those painkillers in the morning! I think this line amused me most so I'm going to quote it and look forward to the final chapter:) Wincing, Dean sat down on the armchair facing his sibling and held his hand against his injured side. He laid the bowie knife on the low coffee table within easy reach, and made a show of patting his face and chest, trying for humour to break the tension. "Yeah, this is me awake. Look - got my eyes open and everything." Author's Response: Thank you for that - seriously. I do worry a little when it comes to certain scenes, that I haven't shaved way too close to a sloppy moment. Oh, you liked the this is me awake line? There's another one in a similar vein in the epilogue - hope you like it....thanks hon....Jules

Date: 05/09/08 Title: Chapter 4: Epilogue - Recovery That was a nice ending. I enjoyed Dean making Sam feel better, and then Sam returning the favour. And it was sweet and slightly amusing when Sam was busy changing Dean's dressing while trying (unsuccesfully) not to hurl! It's a lucky for him he did such a good job though, otherwise he really would be in so much trouble for betting Dean's baby - which leads to this line being my fave here: "And as soon I get these sutures out, this will be me kicking your ass for betting the Impala on a pool game." I will look forward to the next one and am insanely jealous how easily prolific you are *sighs* Author's Response: Thanks Michaela...*hugs*....and thanks for vetting this one for me. I really appreciate. You know I'm your number 2 fan - and that's only because Sarah slipped in before me and pinched the number 1 spot - lol. Are our jerseys ready yet?...*grins*... As for prolific - well, I wouldn't call it that, considering some of the WIP's have been sitting in the folder waiting to be finished for over a year.... But thank you - I'm chuffed that you enjoyed the banter and the little chick-flick moments......Jules

I feel for Bobby too, wanting so much to help but having no real answer. But oh dear - Sam fainting in a store? He is so never gonna live that down, bless him!

Date: 19/09/08 Title: Chapter 2: Chapter 2 I must admit I was really surprised to hear what was wrong with Sam. Although it does make sense, given how he was struggling. I enjoyed the sweet brotherly scene at the clinic, especially when the Dr realised they really did only need each other, and I liked seeing them kick-back at Bobby's as well. I especially grinned at his assessment of them at the end. I think this was one of my favourite lines, it was just so 'Dean' that I laughed out loud: Dean's face scrunched in disgust as he sprinted to his sibling's side. He fought down a gag reflex and hauled a bag of salt from his jacket pocket. "That would have to be the grossest thing I have ever seen, in a long history of grossness," he muttered unhappily, sprinkling the salt onto the wet, glistening stump of torso. "And that's just freaky, the way it just..." He waved his free hand at the monster's lower half, "...stands there." Good job, as always :) Author's Response: I didn't want anything too drastic, but I sort of figured that it was likely Sam would drive himself to this point - not being able to eat, and forcing himself on hunts because of his guilt. Glad you liked the little breakdown scene. I'm always careful with those - it can quite easily go too far. But my wonderful beta keeps an eye on my chick-flick moments - lol. Ahh, Bobby - I've said it before, and I'll say it again - I love Bobby. And he loves those boys, even though they're almost a full-time job on their own. The fact that they had Bobby to turn to in Season 2 and 3 was wonderful, and it gave them a home of sorts - a place to rest and regroup, lick their various wounds - somewhere they felt safe. Thanks hon.....Jules Summary:

Date: 03/10/08 Title: Chapter 1: Chapter 1 Well, the tension is already ratcheting up in this one and we've only just begun! I've wondered if they will address at some point the fact there are some hunters out there who are not on their side, and now you've gone ahead and done it first *g* I hope Dean finds Sam soon, and I really hope they get the better of these guys. It just doesn't seem fair that on top of having to deal with the demons etc they also get stuck being wanted by the cops and other hunters.. Poor boys...

Loved how you showed how good the boys are at what they do, even when working alone, and I can't wait to see what happens next. I particularly liked this line, as I love Sam when he's in protective mode: If they really had hurt Dean, Sam silently vowed, then they'd just guaranteed themselves a status change from hunter to prey. Author's Response: Ohh - thanks, Michaela. And I lost track of the reviews - I'm so sorry! Glad you liked it, though - I just wanted to showcase their talents, and their fierce devotion to each other. Hope I achieved it....Jules

Date: 23/10/08 Title: Chapter 3: Epilogue Very nicely done. I loved the scene between the boys when Sam took out the final hunter, I think a lot of people miss that part about him - despite the fact he was drawn into that world reluctantly he is just as good as Dean and John. They did train him after all.. I liked how you tied it in with the episode and pulled together all the loose ends. And this bit made me grin most, cos it was just so 'Dean': Dean rolled his eyes and resumed his slightly uneven walk to the car. "Peachy. I just got the mother of all hickeys - from a guy. I'm freakin' fantastic." His lips twisted in disgust. "Vampires don't care what sex you are, Dean - they just want to feed." "Oh, that makes me feel so much better." Great job :) Author's Response: Thank you, hon. And I agree - Sam is a good hunter, he just doesn't enjoy it. But he's well trained for all of that - and of course, if Dean is threatened, look out! Oh - I always did wonder what went through Dean's head after Gordon bit him - and was I the only one who found that little scene rather gross? LOL...Jules Summary:

Date: 23/10/08 Title: Chapter 1: Chapter 1 This has all the beginnings of a lovely story and your dedication at the start was really touching. I was always curious about what made Dean turn back in the pilot, and I like your explanation with the watch stopping. I feel so much for both of them right now - Dean is trying so hard but it is going to be a while before Sam can even think about being ok. At the moment all he can see is revenge, and that is definitely not a good road to travel down as we all know.. I look forward to reading the rest, and I just wanted to quote this bit as amidst the sorrow it really made me smile: "I swear, I didn't know whether he was gonna tear you a new one, or laugh himself sick. There you were, sittin' in the middle of the trail, holding a handful of feathers and lookin' up at Dad with those wet puppy dog eyes of yours. You were so worried about that stupid freakin' bird - made Dad and me go look for it to see if it was okay. We finally found it after about an hour - man, I thought Dad's blood pressure was gonna go through the roof. Bird was okay - I mean, it was seriously freaked, but anything would be freaked after some kid practically blew its ass off with a load of consecrated buckshot. And I bet it would have hurt like a bitch to lay an egg for the next week or two." Great start :) Author's Response: Thanks for that, Michaela. Regarding what made dean turn back - that was actually a missing scene from the pilot I always wondered too what made him turn back. i sort of wish theyed left that missing scene in because it made more sense. Trust that you liked Dean's little flashback.... Jules Author's Response: Opps sorry for the typo but I am typing for Jules as she dictates... Chris

Date: 15/11/08 Title: Chapter 3: Chapter 3 That was nicely done. You portrayed Sam's grief really descriptively and I really felt for Dean, doing his best to help in whatever way he can. It's nice to have those first few days filled in, even if only fictionally :)

Date: 15/11/08 Title: Chapter 4: Chapter 4 This was a really well written chapter, you got across so well the feelings of having to attend a funeral of a loved one - the reluctance to get going beforehand, the jolt when you see the coffin for the first time, and the awful finality when they lower it into the ground. I can understand Sam's guilt and grief, but poor Dean really is trying his best. I hope they can try to bear that in mind when they finally meet up again, but I have a feeling fireworks are coming. Re your hand, that sounds like a nasty germ you picked up there - I'm sorry you've had such a time of it but I'm glad to hear you are on the mend at last :) Author's Response: Thanks for that. That's a bit of personal experience bleeding through. And you're right - fireworks are coming. Dean's not a happy big brother - in fact, he's pretty much out of his mind with worry, so when he finally finds Sam, it's not going to be pretty.... Thanks, hon. The infection has just started up again, but I'm back on the antibiotics, so hopefully it will die back down by next week. This is one stubborn bug, I tell you....Jules Summary:

Date: 11/11/08 Title: Chapter 1: Chapter 1 That was nicely done. I liked the parallels between the first hunt and the second, although poor Sam. He really didn't have much luck on that job! Lots of nice brotherly moments, and more amusing lines than I could count. I really enjoyed that. On a side note, it's a shame you won't be applying to be in a Zine - your writing is more than good enough and I'm sure it would have been very popular :) Thanks Michaela. And no, I won't be applying for a zine. I'm much too chicken. I have a bad enough attack of nerves just posting on my two usual sites, here and SN.tv. There were a lot of parallels in this story - the hunt being one of them. The other one I hope wasn't too vague - the parallel between Dean and his dad, and the fact that Dean took over as the father figure in Sam's mind. I'm thrilled that you enjoyed it. It was fun to write this one, and I really needed an angst break, especially with Metamorphosis running at the same time....Jules Summary:

Date: 07/03/09 Title: Chapter 2: Chapter 2 That was nicely done. I wasn't sure, in the first chapter, if it was the boys but I had already worked out (to be honest) that it wasn't when the second guy hit Don with the bottle. Still, it was skillfully done. I was glad - on a shallow note - that the Impala was ok. And I enjoyed seeing Dean and Sam go back to the bar to impart the news and deliver 'retribution'. Nice brotherly moment at the end too. A very well written story, as always. Author's Response: Hi, Michaela, Thank you so much. Ahh, yes, you know the boys so well - Sam wouldn't do that to someone, even if Dean was being threatened. Glad you saw through my little misdirection. Oh - lol - no, I try not to ding the Impala too much! It was just a little ding - nothing like what Kripke did to her. Now that was just cruel. So glad that you liked the payback - poetic justice. Jules Summary:

Date: 25/09/09 Title: Chapter 1: Chapter 1 That was a lovely yet heartbreaking story. Lovely because there were so many wonderful glimpses of the love and (sometimes exasperated) affection between the boys as they all-too-frequently took care of one another, and heartbreaking because you showed so vividly how much both they and their relationship have changed over the years. As always you had both boys very much in character and there was enough humour laced within the angst to make me chuckle aloud several times. The way you wove the theme of medical supplies - and their use - into the aftermath of the various episodes was masterfully done. I actually enjoyed working out in my head which one it was at the start of every new paragraph. I could quote a dozen lines that I enjoyed most but in the end I went with this one, as it was so very them and despite the heartbreak behind it, it made me laugh. A lot: Dean quirked a grin, returning his attention to the first aid supplies. "And I didn't come back with piles." He plucked a smallish box from the stack in Sam's arms and flicked it onto a nearby shelf. "So unless there's something you want to tell me, I don't think we're gonna need that." The younger Winchester blinked in confusion at the discarded tube of haemorrhoid cream. "Uh..." "Or acne cream," Dean continued, taking another item from Sam's hands. "And I think we can do without the facial scrub - unless your skin really needs to be apricot fresh." A blush highlighted Sam's cheekbones. "Dude, seriously," the green-eyed hunter went on, culling a few more unnecessary supplies from the collection. "How the hell did you survive without me?" I didn't.... Sam bit his lip. So true.. Thank you for sharing another terrific and well written story with us. On a final note, I agree completely about the drabble thing. I don't even read them as I find it too frustrating, and I was put out to recently discover they seem to be cropping up in another favourite fandom of mine. I really can't see the fascination *shrugs* Anyway - great story :) Author's Response: Hi, Michaela, Thank you so much for taking the time to review. I know you don't spend much time on the boards any more, so this is a treasured gem for me. I did try to bring out the bond between these two wonderful but tortured men - the fact that they are there for each other even when things are at their darkest. When the dust settles, they are still brothers - and I hope that when the apocalyptic dust settles, they will both still be standing - shoulder-to-shoulder like they were meant to be. And thanks for quoting that little bit of dialogue that had so many hidden meanings - the fact that Sam hadn't really survived without his big brother, and Dean noticing the struggle. Oh, I know what you mean about the drabbles - I've read a few, but they always leave me begging for the whole story. Jules |
