Date: 15/08/10 Title: Chapter 6: Screw Up If I was Bobby i'd have knocked John flat on his ass because of his treatment of Dean. I get it, he's pissed but no sleep, no food, that borders on torture and his psychological abuse...Come on! And I'm wondering what is this thing that's watching Dean and the girls in the park and what does it have to do with his current predicament? Off to read the next chapter!

Date: 16/08/10 Title: Chapter 21: Let Go This chapter really hit at the core for me! And I think Dean really got the difference between him and Sam... Dean has spent his entire life sacrificing (in part because of John and in part because of who he is) so if he can save someone some hurt he will suck it up. He will suffer. It's something Sam has never had to do, it was never his job so one could say he's a little selfish when it comes to self-gratification. Now that I realized it I saw it in your earlier chapters when he needed some time away from Dean to think and Dean ended up cutting himslf. I am not Sam bashing just pointing out something here (Cause I am very much a Winchester girl! lol!Love 'em both to death!) But like I was saying about Dean, he can handle himself suffering but never wants to be the cause of anyone else's pain no matter how minute. I'm so sorry his daughter did not survive and I love this story!

  Date: 17/09/10 Title: Chapter 1: Chapter 1 I have so many mxed feelings about this story. Not about its awesomeness, that is a given, an undeniable fact kinda like breathing Oxygen is necessary for life. The torture scenes were amazing, this is great in terms of detail and description, shows research done. I was thoroughly impressed. i cannot even express how much. I have always thought that children are our best selves. They accept without prejudice are kind to a fault and choose right most times. Not always but most times. And I think that's wwhy Ben chose good. He just didn't have the shades of grey that develop in adults after time and pain get in the way. And I get why he is angry at Sam. Sam, like Ben says knows right and still chooses wrong. And I get that. I so get that. We do it all the time. We know its wrong to lie but we still do. So I think I understand Sam and its no excuse just is. And Dean has hit the nail on the head. Sam was raised and protected constantly and that made him a lil selfish but his motivations are still underlined by care. He loves Dean and Ben to a fault but he wants to be free of the pain and the sometimes crushing responsibility. ANd i get that. I so identify with each of the boys perspectives nad that is what makes this story great. Hope you like long reviews for this was a doozy! rofl! Author's Response: I love long reviews but they usually breed longer replies from me so I hope you're prepared. The torture was very thoroughly researched, it's strangely one of my "things." I've always been fascinated by it and the impact it can have on people whether it be a Stolkholm Syndrome type thing or the actual physical ramifications. In this particular story's case I wanted to explore Sam and Ben separate of Dean in conjunction with Ben being threatened while Sam was hurt. Basically I wanted to show the connection that has developed between Ben and Sam on a deeper level. For Dean the ultimate torture wouldn't be pain, it'd be knowing what was happening to those he loved without being able to do anything about it. Until this point he'd always been able to take action in Ben's life (since Ben came into his care) but this is the first time as a parent that his love for his son is at someone else's mercy and he could directly see it but do nothing about it. As a parent there is nothing worse than watching impending doom for your child. Choices are always key in my Ben stories and I think this is one of the first times that I really throw the ambiguity of choices in the character's faces. One of things I try to bring home is the Nihilistic philosophy that there really are no wrong choices, only wrong outcomes to those choices. As Sam processes through the reality of his power and uses Ben to guide him through that process, he has to learn how to recognize the possible outcomes and whether he's willing to face those outcomes - "sleep at night" so to speak. So, from a philosophical stand point, if I were to murder and accept the consequences for that murder, is my choice to murder (for me alone) a wrong choice? It's only when we learn to accept the societal dictates as a determination of our standards of right and wrong that we move away from the selfishness of "I can do whatever I please." Or as Wiccans put it "'An it harm none, do what ye will'" Ben is wonderfully still so young and I completely agree with your assessment, youth often makes our choices idealistic and simplistically easy because we just don't have the outlying factors to taint our views. Ben is in a difficult situation, still rather pure at heart and yet deeply enmeshed in a very dark world, as his father and uncle were at his age. Sadly, as we can see from Sam's journey into adulthood, those outside influences can strip away any semblance of right and wrong and leave an individual floundering in the dark for some guidance. Thanks for the review, especially the long one, I love it. I hope my superficial understanding of philosophy didn't leave you stratching your head and wondering what world I really come from. lostatc Summary:

I know what that's like loosing someone you hold dear and I'm sorry for your loss. I remember it being a lot like what Sam's going through, you're just in limbo. Very little makes since beyond the 'why did this happen?'. Basic needs of life are put aside in your greif. You truly feel alone. And you feel like if anyone comforts you (like Dean tries!) you'll break. I think that's why Sam is pulling away from Dean! I love this story. Thanks again! Author's Response: Thanks so much for that, Mandie. Chris (Chasidern) who is also my auntie, told me about your request in the Shoutbox, and I thought it was a great idea. Even though I had a hard choice picking one - lol. And yes, I've lost a few near and dear people over the years. You just go on autopilot mode for a while - it's like a coping mechanism. In the few days before my grandfather's funeral, I buried myself in jigsaw puzzles on the computer for hours on end, because that was my little escape. Sam had a lot of anger and a heartbreaking fragility about him at the same time at the end of the pilot, and he was still angry at the start of Wendigo, so I tapped into that - that, and the fact that he is so much like John. So I figured Sam would begin to close himself off and throw all his energy into finding Jess' killer - but at the same time he's also drifting aimlessly through his grief, not knowing how to cope or what to do. So small tasks like eating, showering, sleeping - they're all too hard to deal with, so they're going by the wayside. He's going to have an interesting journey during that week. Date: 30/07/10 Title: Chapter 5: Chapter 5 I am really enjoying this story. i just feel so sad for Sammy, his pain is palpable and the helplessness Dean feels, tangible. Great story! Author's Response: He just breaks your heart, doesn't he? I've always been a Dean girl, but at the same time I've always had a huge soft spot for Sammy, and I understood where he was coming from most of the time. Like the argument he had in the car with Dean at the start of Scarecrow - I actually was on Sam's side in that. Dean just said one thing too many..."Yeah, it's called being a good son!"...and I thought - 'oh, Dean, shouldn't have said that. Now look what you've gone and done.' I think a lot of people misjudged Sam, especially in the early days. I never thought he was selfish or uncaring - I didn't see that side of him. I saw him as a young man in a world of pain, struggling to find his way through what life - and demons - was throwing at him. Jules Summary:

Date: 27/04/11 Title: Chapter 10: Blood Red Sky This is my second time reading this story and I couldn't remember if I reviewed the first time around. *must check! ;) * This is a great story that touches on the hidden parts of Dean's heart. With this season and the Lisa and Ben story line we got to see a bit more of the dean that longed for normalcy. It was beautiful. Also the next thing that went through my head is that this foreshadows the episode this season with the faeries. 'Fight the faeries!' lol! (That is my line!) And the fact that it was Dean who was taken in that episode as well as your story well let's just say Great minds think alike and you are very creative! So awesome story! Summary:

I always wondered(well before last season) if Dean would follow Sam into the abyss if he ahd chosen, not had a choice but willfully chosen to be evil. Guess we'll never know.
