Date: 25/05/07 Title: Chapter 1: Chapter 1 Okay, made the mistake of trying to eat while reading this...bad idea as it is hard to swallow with a football in your throat. The line about him carrying Sam out of the fire and into this life and carrying him back out just killed me. You captured what I truly believe would be going through Dean's mind when faced with the idea of burying his baby brother. Amazing insight. Guess good things really do come in small packages... Summary:
It was just a little scar on Dean's shoulder. But it was about to turn Sam's whole world upside down.Categories: General Characters: None Challenges: Series: None Chapters: 7 Completed: Yes Word count: 15565 [Report This] Published: 16/07/07 Updated: 02/08/07

Date: 01/08/07 Title: Chapter 4: Chapter 4 Confession OMG poor little Dean! My heart is breaking just thinking about his willingness to do whatever he could to keep Sam from harm. And both boys are just so earnest and eager to please. As the mother of a little boy this segment just did me in. I really love how you've written Bobby, too. You've really captured the essence of all the characters in my opinion. Nicely done.

Date: 01/08/07 Title: Chapter 5: Chapter 5: Promises The thought of ten year old Dean worrying about John's well being, Sam's well being but never pausing to think about his own - I definitely see signs of the man he will become. What an absolutely heartbreaking and horrific segment. I sure hope Davis gets what's coming to him. Bobby, Jim, don't fail us now! Author's Response: I agree. Dean's self-sacrificing ways are so deeply entrenched it's hard to believe that they're recent. I love the way you're egging Bobby and Jim on!

Date: 01/08/07 Title: Chapter 6: Chapter 6 Full Circle When Jim said the line about beating him to a paste I actually got tears in my eyes. The thought of anyone doing something so vile to a child makes me sick and I think you've done a fantastic job capturing the emotions that would naturally be churning in Bobby, Jim and Sam at the idea of someone hurting Dean this way. And I agree that while I originally wanted the uncle taken care of right away, there's something so fitting in having Sam give him his comeuppance. Can't wait to see how you wrap this one up. Excellent work!

Date: 03/08/07 Title: Chapter 7: Chapter 7 Empath So satisfying! Loved the end quote - how apt. And these lines in particular really spoke to me: He tweezed out every barb, sanded over every rough spot and plastered every nick in Sam's psyche caused by careless, unkind, unfriendly or threatening words or looks. Dean might not do chick flick moments, but he sure did emotional barricading – on a monumental scale. How had Dean known how important that would be to Sam's wellbeing – even when he was just a kid himself? It took Sam's breath away. Every scrape, scar, lump, bruise, welt, cut and scratch Dean gained in defense of his brother was a stamp of love. But so was every smile, every wink, and every nudge with a shoulder; every insult borne, every responsibility accepted, every time Dean shouted his name in warning, every time his brother was overwhelmed with relief to see him safe, every time Dean let him go and come back again. That last bit brought tears to my eyes. And I loved the way Sam handled the uncle. Revenge, Sammy style. So glad I found this story. Beautiful.
Author's Response: I'm really overwhelmed by the wonderful encouragement I've received. Thank you so much for this lovely review freyja. I appreciate you taking the time to mention parts you liked particularly, and I'm so glad you found the resolution satisfying...I was nervous about keeping Sam's justice in character. Thank you SO much...again! Summary:
The fire took his life, but gave him purpose. It devoured his childhood, but allowed him to shield the innocence of another. It brought back his brother to him, but not without scars.

Date: 11/08/07 Title: Chapter 1: Phoenix That was very powerful. I didn't see it posted until now or I would've already checked it out! I love the term "prosetry" to describe it. A Phoenix will rise again from the ashes! After all, it's Dean-friggin-Winchester we're talkin' about! Beautiful imagery, very well written. So glad I found it! Thank you, Freyja! I'm glad you found this. And I agree, it is Dean-friggin-Winchester. He will keep taking hits and will keep comin' back. One of the reasons I love him so much. Thanks for the review. -SJ Summary:
An explosion removes his identity, puts him in the hands of a stranger, and forces him to fight his way back from darkness. If everything he knows is taken away, who can he trust? Who is he, really? Date: 07/08/07 Title: Chapter 1: Chapter 1 You, my friend, have a gift. The fact that you wrote something of this length and this caliber in such a short amount of time tells me your muse must be one busy bitch. Seriously, I'm in awe. Your ability to nail Dean (no, not like that you naughty girl - I meant that you're adept at using words to convey his personality), your ear for dialogue, the way you capture and keep a reader's interest - fantastic. Love it!! Nail Dean.... *stares off into space* Sorry -- you were saying something... ;) Thank you so much for this. You always know just what I need to hear to feel like I did a good job. :) Best -- GS

You know I love this story - it's so well written and compelling. In fact, if this story was cake batter, I'd be licking the bowl right about now! Dude -- that's awesome! I love that. :) HAHA. Thank you. I'm so happy you're enjoying this story. Damn... now I want some cake. GS

Date: 11/08/07 Title: Chapter 3: Chapter 3 Loved. It. First off, the image of Dean on a friggin' motorcycle with the wind lifting his shirt up to expose...good lord, girl, are you trying to kill me?! Yes, apparently you are, because when I realized Dean didn't remember John's death and was going to basically have to experience it again...guh. That just gutted me. You have a way with a well turned phrase that just stops me and makes me re-read certain passages. Example: "It's like… holes. Most of it's there, but then I fall into this hole and it's empty and I… fall until the words fill it up." I thought the conclusion was satisfying and I loved that you used both Turn the Page and Everything Changes!! Bravo, you. So well done. *Hugs Freyja* Thank you for this. Someone told me once that it was amazing that something she never knew she needed had so quickly become something she couldn't live without. I know what she means. :) GS Summary:
Still reeling from the revelation of Dean's deal and Sam's resurrection, the brothers hunt down the Hell Gate demons. This is a very interesting premise and I'm looking forward to reading more. And I laughed out loud when Dean suggested the demon was "banging the Crossroads bitch." Such a Dean thing to say. You've both done a fantastic job writing the boys. Good stuff!! Author's Response: Hello lady! You definitely deserve some cake today -- reviews all over the place!! :) So glad you're enjoying this one -- I'm anxious (as always) to see what you think as it rolls out. Take care of you. You've both done a great job of building the suspense and of delving into the aftermath of Dean's deal. Can't wait for Wednesday! Hi! It's you! Hooray! Yeah, Dean's issues with faith are really being tested in this fic... and I'm curious to see how/if they handle that in the show. Stay tuned... there is more mystery and angst in store! Always enjoy hearing from you, lady. GS and SJ

And the opening scene when Sam "dreams" of a presence in the room...uber creepy. Am I the only one asking myself "What about Bob?" I'm a little concerned personally now that they're looking for a victim guilty of lust...suffice it to say that my thoughts of Dean run a wee bit on the impure side. Nicely done, ladies! Don't make us wait too long for more! *elbows SJ* It's Freyja! Honey... let's just say I'm glad *I* don't live in Mercy with Friday rolling around... the punishment for Lust is not pretty and I've been guilty of it since a certain actor climbed so seamlessly into the skin of a certain character... good GOD. Thanks for the review. I'll bring the cake. :) GS (and SJ)

Date: 29/09/07 Title: Chapter 5: Friday: Lust What a ride! While we're on the subject of lust...thank you from the bottom of my dirty little fangirl heart for the image of Dean in the shower (even if he was all angsty and tortured - he's still naked) and for The Dance - guh. You gals have balanced the angst and the action so well in this one. The entire scene in the abandoned apartment building had me holding my breath, especially the idea of the boys being tempted to let that bastard burn. Once again, you girls have topped yourselves! Can't wait to see what the weekend holds! GLEE!! I love it when you have no plans for the weekend -- you get to read! You get to read US! :) Yay! Thanks for the review, lady. That was some cake for this Saturday morning while I'm (blech) working. So glad you enjoyed this one -- SJ and I agree it was a hard chappie to write, but we were pleased with how it ended up. NakedDean... ::pause to reflect::... *fans self* And the dance... *grin* Who knew I could like Electronica/Techno?? The apartment escape was the brilliance of SJ. :) Again, so glad you enjoyed it and I look forward to your thoughts about the weekend. See you soon -- GS (and SJ)

Date: 27/10/07 Title: Chapter 6: Saturday: Envy Well done, ladies. The aftermath of the fire, the references to "real" episodes (the tweezers, Dean saying he hates barns), Sam's struggle with faith, Dean's reaction to Sam's admission about why he didn't tell Dean he was hurt...all of it, so good. And I truly cannot tell where one of you leaves off and the other one picks up, which is incredible since I've read everything you've both written - truly seamless co-writing. Methinks wrathful Sammy may be in for some trouble come Sunday...and I can't wait to see how it all plays out! Congratulation, SJ!! I'm very happy for you and I hope you have a wonderful wedding/honeymoon:) Hey lady! Thanks so much for this! For the compliment not only to the story but to our writing. That means so much coming from you. Thanks for wading through the lengthy chapter as well as I know time is dear. :) SJ is going to love seeing all the well-wishes when she returns. :) And we both hope that you enjoy Sunday. Much cake to you. Gaelic

Date: 08/12/07 Title: Chapter 7: Sunday: Wrath Wow. What a cool twist to have Sam be Wrath when Dean's the more "obvious" choice. And what better way to enrage Sam than to hurt Dean the way Bob did? Perfect. You two have written one hell of a story here. I've been intrigued by the whole idea of what faith means to the boys, especially after HOTH, and you did a beatiful job of delving into that topic while keeping the boys true to character and keeping the reader engaged. Well done, both of you! Aww, lady, THANK YOU for doing this. We both so appreciate that you are reading. So hope you like the wrap-up. Much cake to you, my friend. GS (and SJ)

Date: 19/01/08 Title: Chapter 8: Benediction Beautiful. Haunting. Well crafted. Bravo, girls! This was the perfect ending to a thought provoking and extremely well written story. The vid was fantastic, too! Kudos to two of the best writers in fanfic - you should both take great pride in the work you've done here. But not too much pride, right? Since it's one of the sins... *wink* Thanks, you. It means a lot to me (us) that you've taken time to read and review each chapter. Now, prepare that baby girl for innundation of Winchesterisms... mine already says "Dean"... ;) Thanks for the cake. Always, GS and SJ Summary: In the wake of sacrifice, Dean finds his purpose. The initial...ahem...encounter was an insightful glimpse into the place Dean goes to escape the reality of his life and his choices. And of how temporary that release is. Only you could write a scene that makes me fan myself AND puts a lump in my throat! The thoughts and emotions you detailed seemed true to character, I loved the description of the balancing act that is the boys' relationship, the drowning Sam scene had me gasping for air and the final line was perfection. Extra frosting on your cake:) A1 As you know where the inspiration came from, I take this review as a very high compliment. Thanks so much for taking time to review -- multiple places, even. Date: 04/02/08 Title: Chapter 2: See Adored the scene in which Dean interacts with the dog - a moment in which he gets to be "normal" and experience something simple and pure. The baddie is an uber-creepy enigma, the OCs are well fleshed out, the brotherly interactions and the way you've dealt with the aftermath of BUABS are spot on. More cake, my friend! With sprinkles;) Sprinkles!!! Thanks so much for reading and for reviewing in multiple places. I know you're going to be a bit distracted for the next few chapters (*grin!*), so I'm even more thankful for this review. I'm glad you're enjoying and if you're really really nice to me, I might even print the next parts out so you can multitask like all good mommies do. :) Thanks so much for all of your fantastic encouragement. Wouldn't be smiling as much with out you. GS |
