I love it when people think of details like this, because it would be so easy to drop the darned thing, especially if an angry spirit decides to start tossing the Winchester boys about (as angry spirits are often wont to do). Your prose is almost flawless. Your pacing fantastic! I hope you're not just writing fan fiction. This is publishable quality writing. (Though you want to watch the whole whether/weather thing). Date: 14/12/08 Title: Chapter 8: Chapter 8 Oh God this was just gut-wrenching!!! I feel so horrible for that poor child Ruthie, for the life that she lived, for the torture she endured that inevitably ended up twisting her in her final moments. But I bleed for poor little Dean, thinking that he owed her a damned thing in the face of the horror chasing them that night, especially with Sammy in tow. The minute she dragged Sam into the water with her, all bets were off (IMO). Dean didn't owe her anything. I realize that I am attempting to argue with the ghost of a dead, fictitious child, but humour me. I'm overwhelmed right now. lol. Gripping chapter. Hopefully the next update will be sooner than this one! You left us in a bit of a lurch there, missy! Author's Response: LOL!!! Wow what a passionate response ... you definitely studied the NO-ONE MESSES WITH SAMMY handbook didn't you?!!!:-} Thank You for your great review, it made me chuckle!!! Date: 08/12/08 Title: Chapter 9: Chapter 9 - The Mirror Has Two Faces Oh my gosh, this chapter almost stilled my blood, half with dread, half with sadness, and half almost with amusement. You're painfully good at pointing out the truly desperate state of Dean's psyche. I mean really, I don't think it gets any more damaged than Dean Winchester. Wonderful, horrible chapter. lol. Author's Response: Thanks, Melanie, isn't Dean the most fascinating character to write for though? I really liked writing this chapter and having the kid Dean want for something. You get the feeling that he never even thought he deserved anything, yet alone ever asked for it. And yet as damaged as he is, he still functions so well in his job and in protecting his family. Date: 08/12/08 Title: Chapter 8: Chapter 8 This was just delightful. I've avoided it since I started reading your stuff because for some reason Dean's Hell-deal stuff upsets me (can't imagine why), so I usually only read fanfic stuff from pre-series, or up to and including seasons 1&2. I'm a baby, I know, but I seriously feel awful inside whenever I think about Dean's deal, even after knowing how it works out in season 4. I really did love this, though. Funny how close you were, eh? Your characterization of the beaurocracy of Heaven and Hell was just hilarious. Having lived a short stint in England, I TOTALLY get where that comes from. lol. I mean, serioiusly, Douglas Adams was making a serious statement with the whole Hitchhikers' Guide thing. But it worked in such a funny way for this fic. I also loved how touching it was in parts, how you hinted at Dean having a greater purpose than being just Sam's protector. I especially loved the hundreds of letters from people (especially women) pleading to have Dean released from Hell. I take it they were actually prayers of some kind? Just awesome. I haven't added you to my list of favourite authors yet, which is stupid because you're one of my top favs. |
