Reviews by bhoney Summary:
Take one overbooked hotel, one very frustrated ghost, and a series of incredibly unfortunate events; set it amidst the seasonal splendour of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and throw in two exceedingly unlucky Winchester boys. The result = The 12 Saves of Christmas.
Thank you to Cal for the purdy banner. Join us for a chapter a day over the 12 days of Christmas as we follow our favourite boys as they survive another typical Winchester Christmas.
Thank you Mr Kripke for the best present ever, Sam and Dean Winchester! And to our own Christmas Elf, Kirsty for the superb beta. For the wonderful friends we have made through UnGen. You know who you are. Wishing you all a very Happy Christmas.
Thank you to all who nominated and voted for us in the awards. It made our day! Categories: General Characters: None Challenges: Series: None Chapters: 18 Completed: Yes Word count: 84921 [Report This] Published: 23/12/08 Updated: 12/01/09

Date: 11/12/09 Title: Chapter 14: Chapter 14 Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer Another fun chapter, the boys getting saved by Rudolph, an explanation for the stables, a visit by Bambi...and Chris Kringle, the shepherd! LOL Yes we did manage to cram virtually every Christmas cliche into this chapter, didn't we? hey subtlety is over rated! Jane and Bev xx

Date: 16/12/09 Title: Chapter 16: Chapter 16 O Holy Night Another nice chapter. I'm so glad Evie finally got her husband's letter, and Dean and she got a few moments to talk. Also glad Dean got patched up. This was sweet: "Sorry, bro. It's just, if I know how to do it better they're less likely to pull out next time." Love Sam's earnest desire to learn everything he could so he'd be able to patch his brother up better next time. Author's Response: Jane and I just want to say thank you so so much for reviewing each chapter. It is really kind and thoughtful of you and we really appreciate it. Bev and Jane xx

Date: 16/12/09 Title: Chapter 15: Chapter 15 Aww, this was a great chapter. Really heartwarming, to see Evie and Charles reaching out to those less fortunate for the holiday (and Dean and Sam get to experience some genuine kindness from others). It's perfect that the woman running the diner ended up being just who they needed to meet up with. Hey Hunny. We too grew to love Charles and Evie and it felt good to give the boys a bit of care and compassion. Jane and Bev xxx

Date: 10/12/09 Title: Chapter 12: Chapter 12 Save 10 Follow the Star! ""Mmmh. Gimme a minute, babe." He mumbled, softly, turning his head and nuzzling gently at the hairy face. It was the prickling whiskers followed by the dainty hooves scrabbling at his ribs that filtered through into his sub consciousness, alerting him to the fact that his current bed companion was perhaps a little below his normal standards." Hilarious! I cracked up at this. Love the little switch you did with the sign of the star leading them home, it being the literal sign. And how lucky that they'd parked so close to the hiker's grave! Author's Response: Heehee we're glad that gave you a smile and that you're stil enjoying the story. Jane and Bev x

Date: 04/12/09 Title: Chapter 4: Chapter 4 Rocking Robin! This made me laugh: "Sam was genuinely bemused and, if he was honest, a little put out that an icon of Christmas peace like the Robin would, for no apparent reason, turn all ‘Jason Voorhees' on him and attack without warning." LOL And I forgot to say in the earlier chapters that there were some really beautifully written descriptions. Excellent work. Author's Response: Hey Hun. we're real glad we made ya giggle! It was a real laugh to write (80000 words in about 6 weeks!) But we laughed ourselves silly for most of it. Bev and Jane xxx

Date: 04/12/09 Title: Chapter 3: Chapter 3 The Holly and The Poison Ivy Man, Dean's poison ivy experience sounds completely horrific. I love stories where the boys are out in the wilderness--especially when it's cold out--so I have to say, I'm loving this! It's the perfect thing to put me in the Christmas spirit. Hey Hun. We're real pleased that its getting you into the Christmas groove! humming jingle bells as I type... Bev and Jane xxxx

Date: 04/12/09 Title: Chapter 1: Chapter 1 prologue Congrats on the nomination in the UnGen awards this year! Great set up for a story. Love that there's no room for the boys in the Inn and they have to stay in the stables. *snickers* That's great! Author's Response: Hey BHoney. Thank you very much we are delighted by the surprise nomination. More silliness (much more!) to come. Hope you have time to read and that you enjoy the rest. Many thanks for reviewing. Date: 19/12/09 Title: Chapter 18: Chapter 18 Epilogue Part Two Oooh, there's going to be a sequel? Goodie! I totally wasn't expecting the demon stuff to creep into this, it was quite a surprise. I won't mind seeing more of Evie, though. So these figures at the end--Castiel and Uriel?? Or someone else? Nice wrap up chapter, and I'm glad the boys got a nice Christmas together after all they'd been through. :)

Date: 09/12/09 Title: Chapter 11: Chapter 11 A Little Rest and Recuperation I think this is my favorite chapter yet. I really love the boys bunking down in the stables--and what a blessing that it's so incredibly well-stocked! And I was right about the Christmas Hiker--he's not evil, after all! Yes Jane's got them in the stable and if we don't watch her will be undressing them again! And yeah...he's not evil at all! Many thanks for reviewing, we really appreciate it.

Date: 09/12/09 Title: Chapter 10: Chapter 10 A Stable Somewhere Outside Bethlehem "Twisting onto his side he clenched himself into a ball, desperately trying to avoid the panicked hooves of the distressed Jenny." Okay, I was a little confused for a second here. I thought the donkey's name was Raptor. Great chapter. As I've been suspecting for a little while now, the Christmas hiker seems not to be evil (though why did he throw Dean off the cliff in the beginning, if so?). It seems like he wants the boys to do something--maybe salt and burn his bones so he can rest. Still really intriguing. Author's Response: Hey Hun. You're totally right the donkey is called Raptor...'Jenny' is the generic term for a female donkey. Ah yes the Christmas Hiker...perhaps not really as he seems? Jane and Bev xx

I kept waiting for Sam to go back for Cupid, but they made it through without his help, LOL. Love the idea of the boys in a little snow and spruce shelter, waiting out the storm. Great chapter! Hun. You have no idea how long it took me to pursuade Jane out from under that tree! Hsaha Bev and Jane xx

Great job! Heehee go Cupid! not even a plastic reindeer could resist those beautiful boys! jane and bev xx

Holy cow. Hey Hun. Ahh but then there are few people that are such fun to beat the crap out of! Heehee Thanks for reviewing, much appreciated. Jane and Bev xx

Date: 18/12/09 Title: Chapter 17: Chapter 17 Epilogue - Part One This was a wonderful detail, just the type of thing to go through a Winchester's mind, even when some good fortune finally does find them: "he looked round the room with obvious unease, wondering idly if there was enough salt in the whole of Bethlehem to protect all the windows and doors." LOL And this made me laugh: "levering himself gingerly across and into the Yuletide edition of Pimp My Ride." Love the description of the Christmas Chariot. LOL Summary:

Date: 08/03/09 Title: Chapter 1: Chapter 1 Awww, I really liked this a lot. I usually don't read outsider POV stories, or stories in first person, but this story really drew me in and I couldn't resist. I really enjoyed seeing the brothers through Grace's eyes. Loved the shepherd analogy, and the way Grace thought of them as unsung heroes, scruffy angels. LOVED the gifts they got one another, they were just perfect. And I figured that little boy would remind Dean of Sammy. Also liked that Grace had brother issues that gave the boys the perfect opportunity to discuss some of what was going on in their relationship, without having to do so directly. LOVED that Dean called her Gracie--I figured that was why he'd done it--and that they left her the note and the quarters. Liked the significance of the phone ringing 12 times before it was answered, and that Grace and her brother were trying to heal things. For some reason, this mental image made me giggle: "like the three-year-old girl who had been brought in two hours ago with a saucepan stuck on her head". Really good job on this. Great descriptions, great details, great characterization--it just all came alive for me and drew me in. Very well done! Author's Response: Thank you so much! I'm just so glad that I could pull this all together, as it was written on the spur of the moment - on the fly, as it were. It's only the second outsider POV story that I've done - the other one was first person, too, come to think of it. But it does give a bit of a different view of the boys, seeing them through someone else's eyes. So chuffed that you liked Gracie, and the parallels between the siblings. And yes, when the boys were discussing Grace's estrangement with her brother, they were really talking about their own issues as well. As for the three-year-old with the pot on her head - not sure where that came from, but it sounded good so I threw it in - LOL! Thanks hon - I really appreciate your wonderful review. Jules Summary: He's my brother, and he means more to me than anything in the world...

You did a great job keeping the boys in character, and it was a great touch to show one snippet from each point of view and then end with a snippet that could be from either of them. Love how Sam gives him another dirty look in the first one before finally giving in and calling him a jerk, and how Dean knows he's still mad, and he's going to be grouchy for a while still, but they're okay. Very well done! Author's Response: Thanks, Beth! I had a lot of fun writing this triple-shot, so I'm glad that people enjoy it. Summary:

Date: 28/01/09 Title: Chapter 1: Chapter 1 Wow, that was really moving. And sad. I hate the thought of Sam going dark-side. Loved Dean thinking of his brother as a kid. Thank you bhoney! I have mixed feelings about Sam going dark-side. I think Jared would do amazing at it. But I hate the thought of Sam being evil, but then again, it would create so much drama. So who knows? lol. Thanks again! ~Kayla Summary: These are the things Sammy wanted to say but just couldn't...

Date: 25/01/09 Title: Chapter 1: Chapter 1Come cover me These are my favorite lines: "I'm holding on to what's left of you" "Hear my voice , behold your pathfinder..." But this is my very favorite. Powerful, and definitely something Dean needs to hear: "lost things...can be found". Author's Response: thanks for reading and reviewing .I do my best to keep my poems connected with Sam and Dean and this one took me a very long time so I'm glad you liked it. And yes the line ' lost things can be found' was the only one that explained the solitude of Dean and the strength of Sam . Thanks again ! Summary: A brief flashback through three times in Sam's life where he took a second to think about the world.

Date: 15/01/09 Title: Chapter 1: 1 and only Wow, this was lovely. I loved this so many things, Dean knowing Sammy was getting off the couch, even though he was in a different room, Sam's reaction to Dean's gift, the fact that John remembered it was Christmas and took the boys out, the snowball fight. And this made me giggle: “It was an action figure and he was testing his armor for his trip through space!-“ LOL Too cute! Also, you did a fantastic job with setting and tone. Your descriptions were great. Author's Response: Thank you so much for all your amazing compliments. I totally imagined Sam saying that line in my mind. Him saying it in a really bratty voice and in such a smart-alecky way. All the things you said meant the world to me. They made my day :) And I love that you took notice of them. That's what I was aiming for :) Thank you SO much! Can't say it enough. Summary: A poem for Dean

Date: 20/01/09 Title: Chapter 1: the more I can change Oh, that makes me want to cry. I HATED how they ended 4.11. *tear* Great comparison though, to Sam in the second half of season 2. Author's Response: When I saw the first scene of 4.11 (love that scene!), I thought Dean running ragged trying to save the whole of humanity was going to be the theme of the ep. They didn't give it as much weight as I thought they would, which left me with this little guy niggling at my mind.. Thanks so much for the r'n'r. Glad you approve :) |
