The dragon you were standing on, as if you were f~cking St. George himself---who's throat were you actually crushing? Was it Lucifer's, or was it mine--?" - loved this line. And this one - But you drove me to it, Dean. All I ever needed was for you to sit and talk to me like I was an equal. Not little Sammy, not your assignment from Dad.. Date: 07/10/09 Title: Chapter 44: Chapter 44 Mal What a wonderful story. It had a little piece of everything that I enjoy about the show in every chapter. You captured the mood of S4 beautifully and still found time to kill Ruby! lol It was a joy to read and I loved that it was Castiel that gave Dean the vision/dream. That he tried to show Dean that there could a happy end to it all some day. To quote the show's signature tune by Kansas here: There'll be peace when you are done/Lay your weary head to rest/Don't you cry no more. I could really see it finishing like that. Date: 10/03/09 Title: Chapter 1: Chapter 1 HI BJ I liked this, but I like dark and angsty. I couldn't decided which brother I though it was until near the end. The title and the reaper line made me think of NRFTW and I thought it was Sam at that point. Dean's grave and being hunted down to his last day. In the end though, as soon as you mentioned kneeling and calling out his name it was instantly Dean. The scene at the end of AHBL1 was for me, one of the most powerful in the whole show, Dean's final cry of Sam is etched into my brain forever. I loved the image of Dean holding Sam in his arms, crying for his fallen brother - I get a lump in my throat everytime I watch it. Loved that this story made me think of it again. It's what the show is all about. Love, loss and two brothers as you highlighted in this little one shot. Thanks again BJ, Mary xx
Author's Response: Thanks, Mary, that is exactly what this show is about, love, loss and two brothers. I only hope they find some happiness and are together at the end. I agree the title with grave mentioned and the reaper coming for his brother sounds like Sam losing Dean in NRFTW, but the final scene of kneeling in the puddle, that is most definitely inspired by AHBL1. I agree, that was the most powerful scene ever, and for someone spoiler free, quite a shock that they actually did it. And now look at us, so much death and thankfully resurrection for our brothers. Date: 13/10/09 Title: Chapter 10: Revelations Loved this chapter and the idea of the fallen angels. I did look at something like that for a story but I couldn't get it to go the way that I wanted. I think you should just stick to what you are going to do and never mind where the show takes it's own version of the mythology. Date: 22/04/09 Title: Chapter 1: Chapter 1 - We're Good Maybe I am obsolete. This was the line that stood out for me BJ. Dean's big fear that he has been replaced by his brother's power and that Sam doesn't need him anymore, because without that, in his own head, what really is Dean? You capture Dean fatigue and doubts in here beautifully and the brothers are so not good, not even close. They are killing me too. Looking forward to part two and Sam's take on things. I think he was rediscovering his passion for hunting, saving people, doing good for the world. Unfortunately then he got hit with the news he broke the first seal. When he is most hurting, he does need his family and yet, here again he feels lost, abandoned by the very ones he needs. Date: 03/05/09 Title: Chapter 2: Chapter 2 - We Are So Not Good HI BJ As you know I'm a Dean girl but I feel strong for Sam's plight this season. He's lost his brother and himself. I loved Sam's take here and I think you nailed his inner fight. He started this because he had lost Dean and when his brother came back he used the change in him as a kind of justification for keeping doing it. Dean wasn't Dean so Sam stepped up to the mark. Doing what he believed he had to do. I still feel that Sam's overwhelming urge to destroy Lillith has nothing to do with saving the world. It's good old Winchester revenge, she hurt his brother - she held the deal and she wouldn't let Sam bargain for his brother. He's going to hurt her back. Up until last week's episode I still think he thought that he was doing good, but I think even he has doubts now. Sam has turned bad by trying to do good but I feel that we've still got to see Dean's true colours in all this. I worry that Sam is pushing is brother into the arms of the angels. I think this season is going to end badly but I hope that the journey will end well.(Pretty please Mr K.) I want him to get his brother back too. I completely agree, Sam is so lost, but he was broken when he lost Dean. He wanted to make Lilith pay for that so he took the only avenue he saw to get strong enough to hurt her. Then Dean comes back, he tries to stop what he is doing. He knows it's unsavory, but Samhain and everything else is coming and he needs to be strong. And then he realizes Dean isn't Dean and for the first time, he needs to fully protect his brother. Another reason to go back on the juice, and then he scares himself, sees that maybe this has gone too far, that he can't handle it as well as he thought. Too late, he's hooked. Sam is a contrast in revenge, wanting to do good, and just plain addiction. I so want them to find each other again and be brothers united. Thanks for such a well thought-out review. Take care, B.J. I was wracking my brain trying to come up with something for this challenge, and it finally hit me to try Adam at 3 in the morning one night. The phone angle comes naturally of course because that's the only way the boys communicated with John except for just a few episodes. It's a HUGE part of their relationship with their father. If you're interested, I have a few stories that are longer than a hundred words too. I was trying some more out-of-the-box thinking for them, and I was pleased with the results.
