Aw, I really loved this one! It's exactly how I feel the relationship between the brothers - it helps to understand the rage that is sometimes hidden behind their love for each other (uff, hard to explain if you're speaking english as bad as I do ...). By the way: I loved "Hidden Wounds" for exactly the same reason. Love to read more stuff like that, thanks a lot, littleFairy

Author's Response:

Thank you a lot for the review! And don't worry, I think I understood very well what you meant, and English isn't my first language either. I'm so glad you liked the story, and that you could relate to the way I see the brother's relationship.

This was my first foray into the fandom, all the more I'm glad you liked it. Thanks a lot.

Hi,

this is the first story from you I've read but certainly not the last! I really wanna thank you, I totally loved it. It's so well written, from the first sentence to the last it has everything an outstanding story would need: the thrill, the right pace, the credibility - and such great ideas. I really had to laugh about the exorcism using Bobbys abilities - and I nearly cried about your picture with the boys holding each other while the other brotherly pair behind them fighting a battle as old as mankind. The emotions, the thoughts, the acting of the persons, all so well balanced and true - you have a gift, and I look forward to enjoying more of it (sorry, I'm no native speaker so perhaps I didn't find the right words)

Author's Response:

Oh! Thank you so much :D That was awesome of you to say *blush*

And don't worry... not a native speaker either ;) I know all about English bumps and stumps.

Wow - what can I say? When I first heard of your story I thought "Well that sounds kind of insane" - and it really is, but you made such a huge and deep and fascinating story out of more than difficult topics: I'm totally in awe! Holding the suspension and emotions high all the time, filling every character with real life, even arousing some understanding for the evil Benders ... and there where all these brilliant details (like Dean naming the dog Sam) ... I just wanted to thank you, it was amazing! It's definitely one of my favorites and I really hope to get more of that stuff from you (speaking about addicted :-)

Author's Response: Wow: thanks so much! I just checked my emails and saw you have favorited me over on FF, so thanks for that too. I’m really glad you enjoyed the story – I love the episode and always wondered what would have happened had Missy gotten out! I am posting the sequel here and on FF too though of course you’ll need to read it here to admire my gorgeous banner, designed by the very talented GypsyWoman… ;-)

Hey, great: just found out that there's another chappy waiting for me since I downloaded the first 4. I can't even imagine how you manage to write such terrible awesome stories AND care for two children while working 60 hours a week, but I won't ask as long as you keep on going :-) And I'm 96% excited and 4% envious that you're able to juggle a full range of plot balls high in the sky with a world of untold secrets and unknown territories to explore. Like in the first part you are an artist with dialogues and emotions that find their way in souls, so full of life and pain and humour and wisdom. I'm always between laughing and suffering (well: a great way of suffering, give me more :-) Leading the characters we love over such dark roads without loosing them - great job! I hope some day I have the courage to try it myself ...

Author's Response:

Thank you kindly: I really appreciate that you took the time to comment and it is great to know the story is at turns enthralling and amusing you! You have no idea how gratifying it is to hear that, because yes, it is hard work to schedule it in to RL... it is definitely a labor of love for me!

I have up to C8 written [pressing on with C9 tonite!] and will be posting weekly on Thursdays so keep your eyes peeled!. Bleh, I don't know how I do it either... but comments like this certainly are a great incentive to keep at it! ;-)

Dear Kate,

I hope you recognise my name here as one who's already told you how much she loves your stories - your first one, and this one too! I went back from a short holiday in swizzerland just a few days ago and I was carefully nibbling and mumbling off your new chapters enjoying the full flavored taste of every bite and looking forward to the next when I found your announcement to not carry on without getting the reviews you earn.

I understand you perfectly well cuz I can't imagine spending so much time and love and heartblood for something without getting any reward. So do what you have to do, but please don't stop writing (for whoever you like - and  hopefully for me too, because I would rather gulp your words down with Coprinopsis atramentaria and suffer from sickness than not to get them at all ;-)

So, perhaps it's too late, but I'll tell you anyway (like I did before): You have the perfect sense for the rhythm, the vividness, the playfulness of a brilliant storyteller. I love all the hints and tracks, I love how close you stick to THE Dean and Sam and Bobby the way I imagine them, and I especially love cocky lines like that:  "... and Jesus, he feels about as popular as a pork chop in a fuckin’ synagogue". I'm no native speaker but people like you make me want to play with a language as artistic as you. Go on with that, it's a gift! And I'm sure it makes many people happy, even those who didn't dare or care to tell you up to now. (And like someone here said: it's sometimes a bitch to leave a review here, seeing it dissappear into the pit after half an hour of tiping :-P)

dearest regards

Katja

Author's Response:

Katja: thanks so much! I emailed you in response to your email too. I so appreciate what you've said here... I do put hours and hours into this and it is disheartening if people can't be bothered to shoot some feedback in for it. And it is really the only way we can tell if something is working or not.

Given I have had somemore reviews pop up I likely will continue here... I do actually prefer it here to FF. It's a dedicated site and my oh-so-pretty banner is here! ;-)

Wow!

If I'd be the nail biting type you would be guilty of my rather short fingers :-) First these initials in the tree - and Sam loosing it all at once. I loved that one! Loved it even more when it turned out that Dean did it ... Then the part with Bobby thinking about how different the boys deal with their issues and Sam always asking him all the big questions running through his mind - adds up perfectly to the way he grew in this kind-of-father-role. And I like the way you place Bobby and Kathleen as "counselors" to our boys, trying to push them into talking with each other. Kathleen and Dean down at the river - hilarious! This "mantra-"thing - I really had to laugh (it's a nice one you gave her, by the way). Not to speak of Dean shooting the poor fish :-) That's him! Not the kind of meditating guy. And the end of the chapter? Big time! Dean changing from one second to the other - as the situation itself ... leaving me gasping for air - and more addicted than ever.

:-) Thanks as always

Katja

Author's Response:

You know, sugah, I totally heart Dean-Bobby and I honestly do believe they do have a very deep bond. But I really don’t want to short-change Sam… Bobby loves him too, just differently because Sam is so much more independent. I just really liked that idea of the ‘child being father to the man’, so to speak: Bobby making himself what he is for both boys: surrogate father because Dean needed it, and teacher because that was how Sam needed him.

Yup: way more going on in the Lee-Gabe sibling relationship than Sam thought – more on that in Chapter 10. And those initials are going to be pretty important later on for helping Sam figure out something about this hunt…

Dean shooting the fish is a little homage to Stargate SG-1: I was a big fan back in the day. Anyone who ever watched the show will likely know the scene I was referencing there! ;-)

Ok - got it: You whistle and I'll come, cause I can't get enough from that stuff :-)

My imagination never runs fast enough to catch up with yours - thank God. So the wendigo knows Dean, more than that - has a strange kind of feelings for him? Kin? I'm curious to where that will lead us! And Dean always such a smartass: "What the fuck was that"? "Adoption"? Hilarious! That gruesome kind of record playing in the dark forest, leaving everyone except Dean with his or her own desperate version of Deans time in hell - big time. Yeah, me too loved the scene between Bobby and Dean, and it was crystal clear what this Dad-thing meant, and it rips your heart to pieces. As always I loved the way you make the atmosphere out there so palpable - the fear, the sounds, the terrible silence, the red glowing moon ... Nice to know that the next chappy is already waiting for me :-) Keep going, it's awesome!

Author's Response: Thanks hon! Whistle and I’ll Come to You is actually the name of a very creepy Victorian horror/ghost story – I’ve always wanted to borrow it to use somewhere! ;-)

Ouch! That hurts! Another tap on the head - and Dean's gone again? And that after the brotherly talk they had the same morning? That's mean - and I like it. Question is: will Sam handle it different this time, after the confessions Dean made about the relationship with Lee and the imperative love he feels for his brother, even if he couldn't remember his true brother at that moment? That was a very intense dialogue, awesome. And is it coincidence that it reminds me strongly of the way we see the brothers act after Dean is back from hell and Sam is getting deeper and deeper in his demon troubles, until Dean hardly recognizes him anymore - and still he holds on to this love, not able to understand the way his brother treats him? Hey, that's why I'm addicted to your stories. And Kathleen is learning fast - suggesting Dean as the perfect bait. Woman's tough :-) Ok, let's see how Gabe and Sam are working together - it's gonna be thrilling.

Katja

Author's Response: Mwa-ha-ha… I just like being mean to that boy. What a sick puppy I am! Thanks for your kind words Katja… I thought long and hard over that dialogue and it definitely is set up to parallel the post-Hell relationship, so well spotted! And hey, if you think Kathleen is tough in this chapter just wait to see what happens in upcoming ones – it’s time for her to show she doesn’t just have a way with words! :-O

Huh - hunting time! But who's the hunter and who's the prey? Poor Kathleen, left alone in that cave (and I'm sure SOMETHING creepy is going to happen there). I love the way she plays the role of the ship councelor here. And Sammy, always pushing so hard - why can't he give Gabe/Dean a little peace. And Gabe? “You lost your Dean too? That’s… careless, buddy. Real careless.” :-) That was sweet! I don't wanna be in Bobbys shoes right now, sitting in that stinking pit and waiting for IT. This will be another hell of a night. And I really have no clue what the riddle with the silence in Gabes head's supposed to be mean. I'll leave it to you ;-)

Shivering in anticipation

Katja

Author's Response:

Hey sugah! Cackles… just wait till you see what’s going to happen in the mine… :-D

There most definitely is a reason for the silence… all will be revealed!

Hey sunshine! Wow, you really know how to hunt your readers down :-) Can poor Dean stand anything more? Useless question, he just has to – good thing is: we’re with him. But one step after the other. First of all: „Forest grump“ – I loved this one. That’s the kind of game I do with my brother all the time. Dean and the Tampon-thing? Hilarious! And to keep the roller coaster going, his break down after colliding with Sam - heart wrenching. Although loved their shared memories of Bobby – so much life in these lines, I can even see the kids ... one hidden behind his beloved books, one finding the way back into trusting and loving someone. And then the vibe between Dean and Kathleen ... awkward, but so sweet, too (by the way: that was a piece of work, the love scene in the mine: so short, so intense, so real. And let’s be honest: she’s earned a bit of a reward :-) Now, I was blindfolded too about the comeback of evil Lee – hope they’re not running short of rock salt! And what a bitch it will be to find his remains and burn them. Ok, keep going – I’ll be waiting. Nearly as hungry as Bobby.

Katja

Author's Response: Hey Katja: great to see you! Couldn’t resist tampons/crampons… gah, I’ve had that conversation myself! I’m so glad you saw what I was trying to do with those Bobby memories… tho I do think he is closer to Dean, he was there for Sam too and I really wanted to show how he gave both of them what they needed: they just didn’t need the same things from him… ;-)
