This is a fantastic, brilliant fic! It's by far my favourite of all the fics, and I've read many!

I love Dean whumpage and I think it's all the more satisfactory as it doesn't seem gratuitous in this fic and is actually necessary for the plot and the situations you've set up. Also that while he's hurt, he still retains the great Dean snarkiness which rings true even in the narration from his POV. You've captured the personalities of the brothers perfectly and I love their banter, and their wit that's still present even in a stressful situation- true Winchester style. Great and I love that it's all been over the phone- that's a bit different very nice.

I'm on the edge of my seat wondering what Svetlana's going to do, and hoping Sam gets there soon! And how's Sam gonna react when he finds Dean dangling on the edge of a cliff? Even if he gets there is there really anything he can do? Can Bobby find a way for the brothers to ice Svetlana? SUSPENSE!

Great work, please update soon as I check every day for the next chapter- please don't have abandoned this!

Author's Response:

WE havent abandoned this story and I personally have to take the majority of the blame for the long delay. Both Steph and I are writers on the Supernatural Virtual Season which is going to premier Season three at the end of February -and ... unfortunately- my attention has been a bit tooooooo centered on the two part premier.

But - I promise that the next chapter of Living on the Edge is not far from being ready for you all- and thanks sooo much Aigredoux for the very generous praise!

Summary:

Set at the end of Simon Says, Dean and Sam en route to Harvelles’ Roadhouse, in answer to Ellens’ phone call summons, hole up in a quiet backwater motel, hoping for an uneventful day to catch up on their sleep and laundry.

Fantastic! A near perfect fic. The only small issue I have is I think that the parallel between John and Sam in the last chapter could have been slightly more subtle without losing any recognition or significance.

Other than that it's perfect- neat mix of drama/angst and humour/banter. Powerful imagery painted vivid images in my mind.

I was thrilled to pieces at the darkly amusing irony of Sam having to pull Dean to safety through a pool of coffee. Then the dust and dirt clinging to the subsequently damp attire, and tear tracks down Sam's grimy face- great attention to detail.

He flipped the keys through the air and Sam’s long fingers flashed, plucking the carved wooden fob from the air mid-flight.  He fumbled, left-handed with the door lock, clutching his battered laptop under his broken right arm.

     - a sample of what I love about your narrative style.

Brilliant characterisation and attention to both the brothers. Love the banter! I particularly enjoyed Sam ripping Dean after it all calmed down.

“Better watch out for that paranoia and irritability, Dean.”  Sam laughed at the closed door.

“Bite me, dude!”  Came the muffled reply.

Hehe!

Should you write more fics (please do!) I will look forward to reading!

:)

Author's Response:

Hey Aigredoux,

Thank you so much for your very kind words and constructive comments.  The Sam/John parallel in the final chapter has been an area of real difficulty for me, it was in and out of the story half a dozen times, so i really do appreciate your input.

I'm delighted that you enjoyed the characterisation and banter, the boys really are fun to write when they are giving each other stick!!

I've had a great time writing this - I never knew how addictive it really is!!  Thank you for the review and shiny stars. x Jane x

This is fantastic! I love how Dean's broken jaw is just a major contributing factor to circumstances and your characterisation of Dean rather than the focus of the story- you actually have a PLOT! And a really good one :) I love a bit of hurt!Dean, but I have to agree that hospital dramas are a bit boring. You walk the line perfectly.

Also I love love LOVE when Dean got frustrated at Sam when he tried to tell his joke- I could totally empathise with both brothers at that point, you have a great balance between representing both sides of the argument. Sign of a great writer.

Loves it! Write more soon :)

Author's Response:

Thank you so much, I'm very flattered

It's one of the things I love about the brother's relationship that when they argue you can usually see both of their points of view... and how the argument is unavoidable. It's not about one person being wrong but about two people spending so much time together that they're bound to collide every now and again. Who could help but identify with that?:)

Summary: Sam gets an unexpected visit from his farther while at Stanford. Can he save his brother or will he loose him to the silence.

Hi I just can't bring myself to read this story.

Umm sorry to mention it, and I'm surprised nobody else has, but the word 'farther' refers a measure of distance where one distance is greater than the other- ie., Russia is farther north than India.

You've been using this word to describe John Winchester's relationship to his sons, when the appropriate word would be 'father'- that is you should miss out the 'r' in the middle.

No disrespect just it's kinda hard to make sense of when the word has an entirely different meaning :(

If this was fixed I'd love to read your fic :)

Author's Response: my appologies about that i didnt even notice i was typing it wrong i have gone back through and changed it now i hope you will keep reading and thank you for letting me know

This story is fantastic- pretty damn near perfect! I love hurt!dean though mainly find it to be written in a way that Dean loses his snark and tenacity, but your writing delivers all of the above- and in abundance! I totally adore the dry wit of this piece, and I love how Dean's conducting a mini-hunt while Bobby thinks he's losing his crackers. Or maybe he really was losing his crackers the whole time! Haha, fantastic.

The only criticism I have of this story is that the summary does NOT do it justice. I almost didn't read it! Gosh am I glad I did! Great work =]

Author's Response:

Wow! Thank you so much!

Hehehe! Well, about the summary, there wasn't really much I could do without giving away either the episode or the story.
