I found this delightful little fic while surfing and I gotta say, it's a breath of fresh air! I love the angsty, deep fics very much but it does get heavy going. I thought when I started reading "grab the tissues and tell everyone to go away" but it is actually a happy, light hearted interpretation and i enjoyed it.

Laughed at the Dean snark, felt all gooshy at Sam's happiness - and a little sad at the thought that this is the way he has to have his brother from now on - and wanted to cry at "Mom says hi"

You managed touching and funny in one cute little ficlet. Well done!

Fan-freakin-tastic! Two perfect gifts. The rifle reminds me of Lam's gorgeous oneshot "The List". Each brother's gratitude was so heartfelt, loved it to bits.

Sam's reactions throughout this fic are so beautifully written - you capture his sensitive nature so well. Your whole story felt peaceful and private.

And obviously Mr Cool hasn't seen the lastest range of men's sexy glasses or he wouldn't be hiding them!!!!

Lovely little ficlet.

I was soooo cruisin' - sensual, sexy, sweet but hot, hot but sweet - and then that devastating ending had me catch my breath...You sucked me in with "God, it was so much better when you gave a damn about who you were with", yep, comfy, right...

Devastating because of the depth of sadness that radiated out of it, out of Dean...

Short fic which packed a huge punch. Fine work, I love it when I can't take authors for granted. And I should know that with you!!!

I think this is the most desolate and desparate I have ever read Sam. His need to disclose to a stranger spoke volumes about how lost he was and how he needed reassurance. Thank goodness for your wonderful Marilyn.

Your scene where the boys were talking together was heartwrenching - Sam's need to talk out his feelings, gratitude was very emotional. i just loved all Dean's affirmations every turn that Sam took. *teary*

Thanks for a mega dose of Winchester connection.

Love this intro - an intriguing mystery and bro-bond beautifully written (loved Dean naming the phases of Sam's visions!) I'm in!

And now, Dean knowing his horses?!?! Can this man get any more perfect?

This is gunna be one awesome ride! "Elements" here I come!

So Bobby has a serious plan. And among all the conniving he needs 10% surprise factor? My curiosity is killing me!!

I love your Concha, and the boys reaction to her is a gem. Your description of her getting locked and loaded is spectacular, what a woman!! Sam sure seems to appreciate her...

Absolutely loved this line "And along the way if they happened upon a small country in the midst of hostile take over, between what was in Dean’s bag and stowed on Concha’s horse, they could ward off the invasion." Great stuff!

Wow to her horse, he is awesome. You have me in the palm of your hand about the part these beautiful animals play in Sam's vision. Dean has his car, I think Concha has her horse...

And I have a feeling I'm gunna love your Dante...

Brilliant chapter, exciting and well written. I really have things to do however that next button is calling my name. Screaming it actually...

Author's Response:

Thanks again Petra!  Concha's horse is based on one I had, not his color, but his personality.

What an awesome chapter, Laura, you are well and truly in your groove.

You wove the subtle way our boys think and work together so naturally into this story, their connection shone through easily but without feeling overdone and I loved it. The way you wrote the boys responding to the nuances of the other was so true to their characters and personalities *applause*

Your reveal was kickass. Way to go - creative and packed a punch that set up a 'cannot be disputed' understanding forged in truth and shared experience. Like Dean I was floored by your “Guardian, protector, hunter…the chaser away of all things evil”, it was perfect. Sam sitting up and taking notice and Dean appreciating the impact on Sam was amazing and I was rivetted.

This line was stunning "The gesture got him exactly what he knew it would, Sam’s trusted silence" because the scene was stunning. You write of the bond between these brothers with a precision that makes my catch my breath. (I'm still not over that flashlight...) Again it's the nuances in your work which sit along side your exciting story plots which hold us spellbound.

And I have to comment on this - "...and yes, they did sometimes see ghosts and play inappropriately with chain saws" - that was ironicly funny and I stifled a giggle!

Dean left speechless is gold, loved Concha a bit smug.

So the bond is developing, I think Bobby's 10% odds are in his favour...

I'm so glad I tripped back for this fic, it's a corker!

Author's Response:

Thank you so much Petra! I'm so glad you're enjoying this, it's still one of my favorites.

No giggle stifling!  Let them out girl...lol

Thank you again for your kind comments.

Holy moly, a ton of action which had me on the edge of my seat!!

What a critter! And it flies?!? The hunt scene with Concha reflecting and hesitating in her fear, before stepping up was spectacular. She is one savvy chick!

The action with the horses (how cool is Orion!!) was fabulous - that twenty foot reining slide and Orion "exploding up the trail" was freaking awesome, not to mention that leap into the air to give Concha momentum to sabre that sucker! Your description was exact at putting us right in the thick of the action. Great job!

LOVED Dean taking charge (what's not to love) and Sam's "Welcome to my world" was just the best. You showcased the brother's connection brilliantly with these lines "The tone of Dean’s voice... was the deep, guttural tone Dean reserved for use only on possessed beings, intruders, evil in general" and "Sam didn’t question his brother for an instant, dropping flat to the ground." Yep, the boys got a system all right!!

Great chapter...and the real hunt hasn't even started yet has it??

Author's Response:

Tartums are a critter I totally invented, and lots of people commented on them...which thrills me to no end.  The little buggers will be back, no fear.

Thanks again for such wonderful comments.

OK, how to respond...first, I have to breathe...Usually reviews flow from my fingertips but this one is so emotional that I'm struggling, except yes, yes, yes!!!

I saw everything you wrote here in that one tear of Dean's. Your description of Sammy's absolute devastation from Dean's pov was stunning.

And how clever to write a chronological order of events in the boys lives which leads to this one monumental moment. The same fears, tears, anguish, regret and sorrow all in rehersal for this one event with blows the lid off the guage.

I love your work, you know how I feel about your fics, but this one is extraordinary, it really got under my skin. I'll be mulling this one over for days! I am in love with this fic and in awe of your ability to write it.

Author's Response:

Thank you so much!  Heart simply tore my heart out, between Jared and Jensen's amazing acting and the whole history of Dean always looking out for Sammy and not being able to stop this pain.

Supernatural is such an emotional journey with every brotherly moment and to get the chance to explore that further thru my fics is a tremendous joy.  And then to know my stories affect others as the show affects me is just perfect.

Thanks again!  Take care, B.J.

What a breathtaking piece of writing this is. So poignant and absolutely a perfect tag to his eppy. Immanual came into Dean's life in your story with perfect timing - not only to save Sam from himself but because of the dark place Dean was leaning into. I loved the parallel talk around the fathers - I think Dean was affirmed in his loyalty to John via Immanual's faith in His Fathers plans.

And that hug!  Just beautifully written, just what Sam and Dean both needed. Just what WE needed. I actually held my breath as Dean entered the motel room, fearing the worst. But where was my faith? Of course Immanual's timing and advice would be perfect. Simply stunning, an emotionally power-packed fic.

Author's Response: Thank you - can't believe I missed replying to you - sorry about that. This story popped into my head just before Easter, and I was racing to get it finished so I could post it before the weekend was over. It was nice to be able to tie a little faith into the boys' lives...Jules

Fantasitc!  I loved all of it. What a potent mix of poignant and in your face intensity.

The best line EVER in fic history:"Big brother, locked and fucking loaded, his love for Sam a weapon that's  been big enough and strong enough to keep him alive for the last twenty-two years" - big call shot straight from Dean's hip because that's the way it really is. I sucked my breath in at that one, could feel Dean's passion and belief that is impossible to challenge.

Your recollection of all that Dean has noticed about Sam is not a surprise. Dean nonchalance IS his game face: he misses nothing - supreme hunter but more supreme big brother. We see the wheels turning in his eyes and in your words.

Congrats on an outstanding piece of writing. Your style and creativity know no bounds. You articlulate our boys with flair and emotion and I just love it!

What a stunning piece of work. I absolutely LOVED it. The way you built the boys connection through snapshots of their life, their work - from the mundane to that huge S1 finale. Your peek from Sam's POV was true to both characters - what felt like friction in the beginning was really their connection. The OJ and t-shirt - sounding like bickering but in reality each watching out for the other, truly understanding, was outstanding. And these words "Dean's gasp is pure relief. Sam...He absolves the blame; takes the burden of Sam's choice with that one word" was awesome - both in style and in cementing our understanding of everything Winchester. I was having trouble breathing all the way through your story, but I actually caught my breath here.

I don't know why I haven't found you before this, but I'm now off to read your series of one-shots coz I'm hooked. Thanks for the ride.

Wow, I just need a minute to catch my breath... STUNNING piece of writing. Since that eppy I too felt that Dean's flinch and tear were a reflection of the loss of Sam's innocence AND the cold hard reality that Dean might have to face exactly that decision about Sam one day. Sam's strength as he left that room in tears revealing that he had an inner strength that Dean knew he could never have if it were Sam. You wrote this so beautifully - I felt the anger, the sadness, the desperation. I LOVED your analogy of the soldiers and your ending was absolutely kicka$$. Your dovetailing of the dialogue from Heart, BUABS and Croatoan reflected Dean's rude awakening that everything's not  black and white, and Sam's recognition but lack of understanding of this dilemma was minblowing. This contrast was so in our face because of your wonderful writing. Thanks for the sob!

PS I found your wonderful story coz Gaelicspirit listed it as one of her favs - as she is one of MY fav's, I know I wouldn't be disappointed.

brillliant! Loved the way you pulled all the tales of the special chn into one thread and then gave the YED's take on it, as well as showing that Dean was the biggest threat to his plans. All of this situated us just right for your coming storyline.

And that vision, OMG! no wonder Sam could only stare in horror! Me too!

Love how your building the suspense and intrigue.

And then to follow  through with memories of sunrises shared with Jess and Maddie as well were bitter sweet. And to top it all off, Dean knew about these shared experiences and respected his family enough to leave them as special shared privacy was poignant - outstanding writing. And THEN how wicked but clever of you that YED will deliberately misunderstand Dean's jealousy and use it against them i- its also sacreligious.

Author's Response: I'm just so evil that I really enjoyed writing the whole sunrise and trips down memory lane, making it painful for both brothers. Dean’s grin grew wider and he held up his middle finger in Sam’s direction, “This many.” Yep, had that little visual in my head.
