Awesome chapter sis!

Just loved how Gabriel and Raphael came to the rescue of Team Free Will and annihilated the demons.  And go Gabriel, fixing Bobby!

Absolutely adored how it was God who sent Lucifer back and sent Zachariah with him, glad he made an appearance when it really counted rather than sitting on the fence and doing nothing.

And loved too how God told Gabriel to go back and heal Sam and get them out of ground zero before the emergency services turned up asking awkward questions.  Perfect that Gabriel finally told Dean about his doctored voicemail message and that Sam hadn't been sure of anything since he had heard it but kept going trying to earn his forgiveness as he loved Dean more than life. Not surprised Dean felt ill realising that Sam was worried his big brother had given up on him and would hunt him down like the monsters they hunt.

And so relieved Cas is going to be okay too, brave angel going up against Lucifer!

So looking forward to the epilogue next week as those boys definitely need to talk!

Have an awesome time at the Con with Jim and Misha, don't do anything I wouldn't do!

Sarah

Author's Response:

Thanks, sis.

I needed Bobby fixed. I hated that Zachariah let Bobby stay crippled. I wondered whether it was to try to drive a wedge between Bobby and the boys.

And I needed for that message tampering to come out. I'm not satisfied with the understanding that the boys talked about it "off-camera". I wanted to see that resolution, because that played an important part in Sam's decision in the season 4 finale. And it stripped him of any lingering hope of his survival. So I had to have that played out.

Thanks, sis - both Jim and Misha were wonderful. Sam Ferris was awesome, and Julie McNiven and Rob Benedict were so sweet. We had a ball.

Great ending to a fabulous story sis, just wish you had written the season finale and it had gone down this way but guess it was inevitable that in Swan Song Sam felt that was what he had to do to make things right.

Loved this epilogue, you rounded the story off perfectly and tied up any possible loose ends - just loved Gabriel and Raphael posing as Hank and another hunter, putting other hunters minds at rest about Sam - and unicorn sh*t, priceless!

Spot on that Sam would have nightmares and still not be sure that what he was seeing was real and not manipulated by Lucifer, but Dean was right, Sam realised it was Dean and he was real and home and safe.  Understandable though that Dean panicked on waking, finding that both Sam and his pistol were missing.  Loved the talk between them both, Dean reiterating how God came through for them and Sam telling Dean how he felt he had failed in everything he had tried to achieve in his life.  And great that Dean convinced Sam that his place was with him, they needed to stay together and anything else was not an option.

A fantastic story, well written and entertaining and awesome idea from Jane.

Congratulations on completing your 50th fic.

Sarah

Author's Response:

Thanks, sis, and thanks for all your hard work on this one. I know I kept you to a pretty tight schedule with this.

Yes, I agree - I've begun to feel that perhaps Sam felt it was the only way for him to fully redeem himself and atone for what he had done. Even though I wanted a better end for Sammy, I can understand that the burden he carried must have been slowly crushing him, and pushing him to find a solution - any solution - that would save the world and put Lucifer back in his box, no matter what the cost.

Because let's face it - Winchesters have never counted the cost, have they? Especially when it's personal. They just dived in and did what had to be done.

Oh, so glad you liked the unicorn poo - lol. I had to have that bit sort of tidied up - I've always hated the fact that Sam's been hunted.

And I think after a few days in company of cruel angels and even crueller fallen angels, Sam's head would have been a pretty bad place to be in. Glad you loved their chick-flick moment at the end.

hugs

Jules

Author's Response: ....oh, and - you are sticking with me for the next fifty, aren't you? lol

A really heartfelt piece of writing there Sonya, could so imagine Sam feeling that way when Dean drove off and left him behind.  Loved his phone call to Bobby and his little chat with Castiel.  I so hate Zachariah for manipulating their good memories and putting Dean much further down the path of despair and desolation.

Perfect ending, just loved it  -

"That I love him." He swallowed hard against the lump in his throat. "I have to tell him I love him, Bobby."

"It's okay, son. That sounds like a good place to start."

A really great tag to an episode where I really didn't like the ending.  Your words have made me feel a little better!

Sarah

Author's Response: Aw, thanks Sarah!  Glad it could make you feel better.  That really was a heart wrenching episode and I'm afraid it's not going to get any better before the end of the season.  Should give us plenty to talk about over the summer hiatus though. :)

Can so imagine Dean actually thinking those thoughts and Zachariah must be rubbing his hands in glee as his plan seems to be working fine, Dean is so screwed up and tired and wants it just to be over.  Loved how you had him reaching for his amulet (and so hope that Sam did pick it out of the rubbish bin to give back to Dean someday).  He is wrong about Sam though, Sam needs and wants Dean by his side and not just to fight the Apocalypse, he just can't see it as he's at his lowest.

Great tag Sonya.

Sarah

Author's Response:

Thanks Sarah and I totally agree that Dean is wrong about Sam.  I have to believe that Sam picked the amulet out of the trash.  I just can't imagine he would have left it there.

Between SH we did have a good go at working out what Dean wrote in that letter but like your take on it!  Dean wouldn't have wanted to leave Sam without some sort of goodbye and since he drove off without saying it, what he wrote makes sense.

And reading this brought a lump to my throat.

Good job Sonya.

So glad the alerts are working again, and what a nice surprise to find this alert in my inbox when I logged on!

You've gone and done it again Jules, got me wondering throughout the story whether it was Sam or Dean digging out his brother.  Had finally decided on Sam being the digger because he was thinking about a study he had done of various types of soil, which sounds more Sam and then you go and surprise us with it being John!

Totally Dean that he had protected Sammy in the mini avalanche as it buried them and was more concerned about Sammy as their dad dug them out.

And totally Sammy that when he wakened he had a question on his lips as to what had happened!

Loved how you got totally what it is like digging in snow, even though you have never experienced it, though can understand how defrosting the freezer gave you the inspiration with achingly numb hands!

A really awesome read sis, so descriptive, keeping me wondering until you did the reveal!

Sarah

Author's Response:

Thanks sis. It really was an eleventh hour decision to post this up when I did - didn't have time really to shoot you an email and let you know it was going up.

Ah, I got you? I could sort of imagine your jaw hitting the keyboard when you got to the reveal, knowing that I usually avoid John like the plague - LOL.

And yes, Dean made a last-minute grab for his brother, protecting Sammy as best he could under the avalanche of dirt and snow from the ghost's attack.

And thank you for your snow talk when I was planning 'Twas The Night - see, I remembered. And I kept that email with the descriptions and the pics of the snowy woods (beautiful, by the way), for future reference. Never know when one might need it again.

Thanks for your help on this one, sis, as always. Can't do this without my team any more.

Great start to this story sis, you do humour with such finesse!

Just what is up with Dean?  Don't think it is linked to the possible hunt of the disappeared hiker, the motel seems fine and the warlock was history before they got to Shoshoni.  They both stepped in ash and Sam is not affected but Dean did slip slightly on something but again, only ash was on his boot.  And one of the Winchesters had a light hover over his foot whilst asleep!  Weird!

Gotta laugh though at Dean suddenly developing a fetish for thumb-sucking, something he pointed out to Sam that he grew out of at a younger age than his sibling!  And not surprised he didn't want to risk going back to that diner as he wondered if he'd been sucking his thumb when he went in there on the coffee run!

Loved Petra's man bits line, thought of her when I read it!

Sam is right, it's going to be a long night, and a long week for us to wait until Friday and the next instalment!

Hope Optus is soon up and running but thank goodness Chris' net is still working!

Sarah

Author's Response:

Thanks, sis - even more so when you know the battle I had with this one.

Hmm, you've raised some very good points - lol. They did both step in ash, and there was a hovering light, and the warlock was history, and the motel did seem fine....and I'm going to just sit here grinning smugly and not give anything away - LOL.

Oh, Petra's man-bits! That came out of a beta-ing email for Here At while you were in the air - or frantically packing. Can't remember which it was now.

Optus is up and running again, as of Monday night. Took them long enough to fix the comm tower - perhaps their techies don't work on weekends.....

Thanks again for all your help! And the next chapter is going to be even weirder.

Just loved that chapter Jules, so freaking funny!

Farting, so not funny for Dean or Sam, but it could have been worse, he could have had follow-through!  Not good though that his trumpet solo at the diner had the whole town talking, down to the local rookie cop - no chance of flying under the radar on this hunt!

Still can't see what connection there could be between hikers getting mauled to death and Dean's predicament but the supernatural can be a strange thing!  And how come only Dean is affected, not Sam and certainly not anyone else in the town?

Can't wait until next week's instalment to see what replaces Dean's farting, and something must as the title of this fic is 7 Days Of Hell and it's about to turn into day three!  Can it be any more embarrassing than the thumb-sucking and farting - knowing you, YES!

Sarah

Author's Response:

Hey, sis,

Well, I try - lol. I like a little humour; it lessens the tension a bit. Too much angst and darkness can be a bit damaging.

Yes, not so funny when it went on all day - especially for Dean who wasn't game to show his face outside the motel room any more - lol. And no, no chance at keeping a low profile - he blew that out of the water.....and there's a line there, but I'm not going to touch it!

As for what's the connection - well, it's simple. It's....**************************

*grins*....

Just loved this chapter with Dean like some sort of flower-child, love and peace everywhere!  No wonder Sammy was freaked as his brother ruffled his hair, hugged trees and picked wildflowers.  And certainly not surprised he rang Bobby!  Gotta laugh at the older hunter, thinking he was being dragged into a prank war, until Dean came on the phone and finished talking to him by telling Bobby he loved him!  No wonder  he then told Sam he was immediately on his way - just hope he gets there quickly!

So Sam now has a clue, at the stoke of midnight a glow of light surrounds Dean's foot and whatever is affecting him changes!  If Sam found it hard coping with high-on-life Dean, how's he going to cope with emo Dean, bursting into tears at the drop of a hat?

Sarah

Author's Response:

Thanks so much, sis, and for your help in this one too. You know as well as Chris how much grief these latter chapters gave me.

Ah, you love flower-child Dean - he's pretty special, isn't he? And yeah, no wonder Sam lost it a little bit and called in some heavy-duty backup. Of course, with the list of Dean's symptoms, no wonder Bobby thought he was being pranked - lol.

And yep, that's a clue, all right. Let's see how far Sam goes in putting it all together...remembering that he does have a head injury now....

First of all, fantastic line from Sam - If I'd tied him to the Impala's roof and stuck a sail on the hood, we could have made forty miles an hour just from the gale coming out of his ass!" - and awesome banner from Chris, both had me in stitches!

Thank goodness Bobby has arrived and just in the nick of time too as the boys are almost at the end of their rope with each other - Sam with Dean's odd behaviour which changes daily and Dean not only coping with his curse but with an unsympathetic little brother! You will not be surprised to know that I have never seen Steel Magnolias but get the gist of it from Dean's tearful explanation to Bobby!

At least Bobby has decided that Dean's predicament has nothing to do with the hunt for the tailypo and has something to do with what he stepped in in Shoshone when they went to dispel the witch.  Obviously Dean was unlucky to step in the ash but Sam did too, only his must have inactive.  But if the boot had been on the other foot, literally, how would Dean have coped with Sam being cursed, not much different from Sam probably!

Unfortunately I don't think that Bobby's cleansing of the witches house has worked as since the stroke of midnight Dean has now knocked his mobile phone to the floor twice which, if it is what I think it is, will not bode well for the hunt tomorrow!  At least he isn't all emo and tearful though, not sure any of them could have coped with much more of that!

Can't wait until next weeks instalment, but will all three of them manage to keep their sanity?

Sarah

Author's Response:

That was a pretty good one, wasn't it? Not quite sure where it came from, but it did inspire a pretty spiffy banner.

Thanks sis - yep, Bobby's arrived, but will he be able to break the curse before they all go nuts? Or before Bobby has to hide the weapons.....

And no, I'm not surprised that you haven't seen Steel Magnolias, although I have to express astonishment - I didn't think ostrichs were native to England, but there you are, head in the sand and everything! LOL.

Just Dean's luck that he had to step - and slip - into the only active bit of ash on that basement floor - lol. As for day five, well, that mobile did hit the floor...

Dun-dun-dunnnnnnn, as Kris would say.

Jules

Typical Winchester luck that Dean would be cursed with clumsiness on the day of the hunt, not only a klutz in the motel room but not even managing to make it out of the Impala without getting himself into trouble and clunking Sam in the nose in the process!

It goes without saying that with cursed Dean the hunt wouldn't go as planned, inadvertently hampering the others attempts to kill the Tailypo!  And now the creature has run off with Sam as his trophy - just hope the other two don't have a concussion, though in Dean's case it couldn't make things much worse!  Think poor Bobby is going to have his work cut out, coping with cursed Dean and them trying to find and rescue Sam, plus kill the Tailypo.

Can their luck get any worse?  And to top it off they still have to find a way to break the curse on Dean!

Love the pic of the Tailypo and the severed limb!

Sarah

Author's Response:

Thanks sis,

And yep, our lethally graceful hunter is an absolute klutz in the best Keystone Cops tradition - lol.

And of course, it's not midnight yet, so Dean's still clumsy, the Tailypo's dragged Sammy off to have a snack, and Bobby's got his hands full as usual. Wouldn't be dead for quids, eh?

As for their luck getting worse....well, we won't know what will happen in the next few hours, or after midnight....

Dun-dun-dunnnnnn

Don't know what was worse, Dean being a klutz or constantly fainting but the latter certainly gave Sam some fun, probably much needed after the stress of the last few days with all Dean's various curses and a tailypo to hunt!  And, if the situation had been reversed, Dean would have had his fun at Sam's expense too, probably taking pics with his camera phone into the bargain!

At least the tailypo is no more, and Dean was right about it's lair, so it will be safe for the locals to go back into the woods!

Just hope Bobby has got this ritual spot on as they certainly don't need any more curses hitting Dean, guess they will know in the next few minutes!

And so had to laugh at Dean fainting at the sight of bird poo on the Impala, hysterical and the dog crapping on the lawn, and Sam opening his mouth full of half chewed food!  Dean is certainly going to want payback on his little brother for making him faint for his own amusement!

Can't wait until next week to see if the curse is broken!  And Supernatural season premiere airing today in the USA, can life get any better?

Sarah

Author's Response:

Thanks sis, especially for the hand-holding you had to do on this one. Gah, these last three chapters were a bitch to write.

And yep, Sam's certainly getting a lot of play value out of Dean's curse at the moment. Oh, yes, Dean would have worn out the flash in his camera phone taking pics of a disadvantaged Sam. Brothers - LOL.

So chuffed that it's working out - the weird days, I mean. It was fun to put together, even though days five to seven gave me such a headache!

Jules

Awesome final chapter Jules!

OMG poor Dean being afflicted with every aspect of the curse all at once, and poor Sam and Bobby to have to suffer with him, particularly with the flatulence!  Was a little worried that the curse would not be broken at all, especially when they returned to Shoshone, did the ritual, and nothing seemed to have changed.  Not surprised Sam returned later and burned the property down!  Guess they just had to wait until midnight as that was the witching hour!

Not surprised Dean was so angry after he was back to normal, the embarrassment he had suffered that week was just too much to take calmly!

And Bobby certainly took his life in his hands getting those 'supplies' for the kit, he got off lightly though as Dean turned his anger on Sam for laughing and then decided on payback for his less than sympathetic attitude and having fun at his expense that week!

So funny the ending, of course Dean would not shoot his brother, but the image of Sam running out that motel room like a scalded cat was hysterical!  And Bobby seeing him hiding in someones front garden as he passed on his way out of town .......... !

So loved this story Jules, your inventive mind and witty turn of phrase had me in stitches!

Sarah

Author's Response:

Awww, thanks, sis. And thanks for the hand-holding.

I was working steadily towards this one, which is why I didn't tell you what I had planned and went all mysterious instead when you asked me - lol. Wanted it to be a surprise when you beta-ed it.

And yes, the witching hour did it - they had to wait till midnight for the curse to be really broken.

Ah, Bobby - well, only he could have gotten away with it. Sam he could threaten, but Bobby.....Dean might have been at risk of being force-fed that shotgun - LOL. Glad you loved that little scene with Sam taking off like his pants were on fire - and thanks for the help with my endless tweaking of that same scene.

hugs

Liked the fact that Dean had found talking about things cathartic, whereas Sam hadn't in the 'loony bin', a complete reversal to a few years ago.

And also like the fact that they are off to see Missouri, just love her character and wish she had appeared more in the show.

As with chapter one, it really works swapping from Dean's to Sam's POV.

Absolutely beautiful story sis.

It could only happen to the Wincheters, stopping in a one-horse town with no-one in sight other than the pervert who runs the gas station (and he was grosser than gross by the way, not surprised he only had his hand for company!) and ending up finding a baby in their car!

And for someone who has said she isn't John Winchesters greatest  fan you wrote him to perfection, showing the fatherly side that he doesn't often reveal, especially to his sons.

Obvious he would know just what to do, having the experience of two babies and loved the inventiveness of using the holy water flask and two fingers from a rubber glove for teats so he could feed the infant.

You wrote Sam and Dean at their respective ages perfectly too, so in character and just how I imagined them to be when they were younger.  So cute the image of shy and uncertain Sammy slowly relaxing as he held the little girl John put in his arms.

And so emotional and so fitting that Sam would want to name her Mary, not wanting her to go to the orphanage without a name.

Beautiful ending, just loved that softer side of John pulling his boys into a hug, letting them know how much they are loved.

A really great read Jules, loved it from first word until last.  And it wasn't too schmoopy, just an awesome feelgood story!

Sarah

Author's Response:

Thanks, sis,

And yes, it could only happen to the boys, couldn't it? Miles away from anywhere and a little problem dumped in their laps.

Thank you for that - you know I have you and Petra to thank for my softening towards John. I'm trying to dig past the face he showed the world - and his boys a lot of the time - to find the real man beneath the mask.

Ah, I needed the hug - lol. I'd been building towards it since the start of the story. Glad I could make you feel good.

Awesome fic Jules, you were so inside Bobby's head there and I heard his voice loud and clear as I read.  You really worked everything that had happened in the last few seasons and it showed in this brilliant story.

Loved this part - Headstrong and stubborn he might have been, but I could see now that Sam just wanted to be loved and accepted for who he was. John tried to make Sam fit into the same mould he'd forced Dean into, and couldn't understand why Sam kept fightin' against it. So he tried threats and ultimatums, and it blew up in his face when the kid eventually took him at his word and walked out - so true.

And think that Sam was afraid to trust people once Dean lost his trust in him, if his brother couldn't trust him, how could anyone else and, as a result he became more distant, it was his defence mechanism as you said.

You got Bobby's relationship with Sam perfectly there and having it from Bobby's POV rather than in the third person made this fic rock. Totally honest and no-nonsense, just like Bobby.

And just loved the ending - the hug and Bobby determined not to waste this second chance he had with Sam.

I've said before that I love your versatility sis, you can turn your hand to any sort of story and everytime it is so believable and in character.  You know these boys and Bobby as well as Kripke does and that is a rare talent.

Sarah

Author's Response:

Thanks for that, hun.

I watched clips and studied screencaps from quite a few episodes from seasons four and five to put it all together, then had Petra read it over as well as you, as you know, just to make sure I hadn't missed anything. I really wanted to pick apart Bobby's relationship with Sam, and why it was different to the one he had with Dean.

Especially after the surprise of seeing Bobby take Sam's side against Dean for once - that really had me sitting up straight in my chair. I know that Bobby's stance on not telling Dean about his brother's return upset a lot of people, but I had the desire to explore the reasoning behind it.

Thankfully what I came up with wasn't too shabby.

I think you're right with Sam - he's always been on the outside looking in, especially as his connection with the YED was revealed in bits and pieces. Sam's greatest fear was Dean viewing him as a monster, and I think that fear spilled over into his relationship with other people as well - remember his almost desperate plea to the ghost of his former classmate in After School Special.

Thanks for your help, sis, and thank you for your encouragement.

hugs

Jules

A powerful and awesome story.  Really believable.  Thanks for sharing.

Sarah

Author's Response: Thank you so much. To be honest, I think that's the most emotional piece I've written so far, so I'm relieved it came out okay. Thanks a lot!

Dramatic start, OMG what has happened to Dean, something serious as Sam is desperately trying to revive him with CPR!  Just hope he succeeds in bringing Dean back then he can call 911.

Author's Response: Hey, Sarah! I know I'm so mean to Dean aren't I? I like to beat him up in my stories. But no worries this isn't a death fic - I don't like those very much they are so deperessing. Doesn't mean they won't be banged up along the way though. :) Thanks for the review.

Oh dear, hope that Sam having a broken arm and his eyesight not being back to normal are not reasons why Dean is being given CPR by his sibling.  And possibly hunting a supernatural creature from India could be tricky as it will be difficult to find out exactly how to kill it.  Just hope Bobby is on the ball and has something about it in one of his tomes.

Sarah

Author's Response: I'm not exactly sure how I'm going to make this creature vulnerable yet there are so many other factors I need to think about before I get to that. But it definitely is from India, at least that is where the lore originated, and I've given a lot more clues as to what it is even though I haven't given everything away yet. It'll be revealed in chapter three although it might be obvious from what descriptions I've given...who knows? :) Hope you enjoy the next one. Thanks for the review.

Good job that Sam followed Dean out there on that hunt as he was going out there recklessly unprepared as they have no idea to kill what they are hunting.  Just hope that Sam's cry of warning has given Dean enough time to get out of the way!

Will not spoil it for others as I do know what they are hunting! :)

Looking forward to more!

Sarah

Author's Response:

Yeah I know I spoiled the surprise for you didn't I, Sarah? Oh well. :)

And Dean was a lot more reckless than he was before John made the deal to save him - it just seems like he doesn't really care if he lives or dies anymore, just as long as he can save Sam before hand. Hope you enjoy the next chapter. Thanks for the review.

Great chapter Candace.  I must admit when I saw the character was called Brent it made me think of your brother-in-law.  Thank goodness you didn't use your sister's name for his wife, though it does begin with the same initial!

Brent is sounding very like John Winchester, wanting revenge for his wife's murder by the manticore but not being a hunter he needs to listen to Sam and Dean and not go off gung-ho.  With his emotions all over the place though the boys will have to keep a close eye on him.

Typical that the manticore can only be killed by silver bullets covered in the blood of one of it's victims and guess it has perfected a way of eating them quickly without a lot of blood spilling onto the ground.

The boys are certainly going to have their work cut out on this hunt, especially as Sammy's eyesight is not good, he may have got away with tripping over a tree root but Dean did notice him looking hard at his phone screen before he answered Bobby's call.

Looking forward to more.

Happy Thanksgiving Candace and also Happy Anniversary for the 27th :)

Sarah

Author's Response:

Yeah as much as Brent wanted to be in the story I knew there would have to be something tragic or something like that, so that would explain why he was in the story. But I couldn't kill off my sister so he wasn't married to her. He really appreciated that when I told him that. LOL.

A lot of what you mentioned in your review are addressed in this next chapter so I hope it was worth the wait for you. Hope you had a great Christmas. Thanks for the review.

OMG evil cliffie, Dean can't be dead!  He and Sam have not been on the best of terms lately and Dean wasn't even really concerned about Sam's eyes, more angry with his little brother.

Just hope that the dart did not put poison into Dean but the blood on it got on it some other way and he is just deeply unconscious from the claw wounds.

Hope that you had a great Christmas and New Year Candace.

Sarah

Author's Response: Nah, I wouldn't kill Dean off permanently. And yes Dean wasn't very sympathetic about Sam's eyes, but he was so different at the beginning of season two because of John's death. I'm finding him hard to get into so I'm hoping I'm doing him justice. As for the dart...well I'm not saying it did or didn't put something into his blood stream. We had a great Christmas and New Year - Christmas we hectic and New Year slow and boring - didn't even see my husband New Year and I had to work the next morning so I didn't stay up. Go figure right? LOL Thanks as always for reading, sticking with me, and reviewing.
