Oh dear sis, you have had Sam Daphne'd again, poor boy!

It seems to me that his 'jackass' Purdue is the link, especially as Sam and the other three victims look like him.  That must be the reason that Allie is going for them, thinking they are Purdue and wanting to win him back.

Good job that Eli and Moss got Eloise to take Virginia for a fancy coffee,  it might have hurt her to hear the past raked over.

And it was too much to hope that it would be a simple salt and burn, Allie certainly has a trick or two up her sleeve as she has got Sam to accidentally leave the salt circle and whisked him away!  Trust her to make her point by quickly materialising again and flipping Dean the bird before vanishing.

Dean better salt and burn the b*tch quick and hope that does the trick, but with the way their luck is going ........

Maybe Dean should go back to the B&B and get some help in his new search for Sam.

And just what is it that Eli had to do ... something that is pertinent to what is going on, no doubt.

Hope I get time to read the epilogue next Friday but will be at JIB so might be a couple of days late!

Sarah

Author's Response:

I did have Sam Daphne'd again. It was fun, too. *grins evilly*

Hmm, so you think the mysterious Mr Purdue is the link, eh? Well, he could be - or it might be something else entirely... And yes, the reason Eli wanted Virginia gone from the house was to spare her any pain from the past being dredged up.

Thanks so much for your help on this, sis. All will be revealed in the final chapter, including the last key to the mystery.

hugs

Jules

Finally got around to reading and reviewing this awesome final chapter after the wonderful but hectic weekend at JIB and coming back to reality with a jolt!

Had to laugh at the old folks wanting to accompany Dean to find Sam after he returned to the guesthouse looking for a chainsaw for that log but it turned out they were useful, even though Sam was not at the places they remembered.  And trust Eli, the sly old dog, to know of a place the others hadn't thought of, guess he was one of Allie's conquests years ago.

And what a good job Eli had known Frederick Purdue had returned to town and went to get him, as without him they would have been up against it with Allie.  At least after hearing his apology she was happy to go towards the light.

And poor Sam just had to get wet again, he was certainly put through the mill during this hunt.

So had to laugh at Dean's quip that Sam had got rescued by Fred after he got Daphne'd again!

Just knew there was no way Dean would let Sam get away without honouring the bet, think he probably chose Lexington as knew it would have a shop he could buy the wig at!  Not surprised Sam had a thunderous expression on his face as he exited the bathroom, complete with new hairdo!

And poor Sam, being made to go out and eat, wearing the wig.  He should have put his foot down and demanded to eat in!

Hopefully Dean will take pity on his little brother and his embarrassment and only make him wear the wig for a couple of days, but there again ............. :)

Great too that Ginny and Fred finally got to reignite their love for each other in their twilight years.

A really great read sis, loved it from first work until last, so glad it finally saw the light of day! :)

Hope real life eases up for you soon.  I will be ready and waiting when the muse kicks into gear again.

Sarah

Author's Response:

Hey, sis,

I was sort of hoping you'd still be walking on air after finally meeting your boy, and getting your picture taken with him! Have you washed that shoulder that he touched? LOL.

I'm glad you loved Dean's helpers - lol. Oh, but it wasn't Eli who knew about the final secret hideaway, sis. So sorry I didn't make that clearer, but it was Fred, in the car with Eli, who was passing him the information to relay to Moss. I couldn't make it perfectly clear as I didn't want to tip my hand that Eli had Fred with him until the big reveal at the cabin, but that is what Moss was referring to when he asked Eli who was that with him, then got cut off by Eli giving him instructions.

Fred had been to the final secret place with Allie - he was the only one apart from Allie who knew where it was. Sorry, sis...*woobie face*....

And yep, Eli knew Fred had returned and settled nearby, and when he got the information from Sam about how ghosts had unfinished business, he put two and two together and went to get Fred - Allie's unfinished business.

Ah, Sammy - I just had to have him rescued by Fred, thus sealing his Daphne status forever - lol. I've had that little scene planned for two years!

Glad you loved the happy ending for our sweet little Ms Virginia. I think she deserved it.

And thank you for helping me tweak the wig scene at the end, sis. That final little edit married the story up perfectly with the banner.

hugs, and will let you know how John goes with his assessment from the A-Cat team on Monday.

Loved the story on ff.net and love it on here too Sonya.

Totally believable that Dean only went to Lisa because of his promise to Sam, he really couldn't go back on his word after the sacrifice his brother made to save the world.

And totally believable that Dean would try to forget his grief and find comfort in Lisa's arms, but even that only stopped his constant thoughts of Sam for a very short while.  And inevitable that finally the dam would break and Dean's tears would come, he was missing and grieving for the biggest part of his life.

Great job, awesome short fic :)

Two friends, Supernaturalfan and Vonnie836 recommended I check out your work and love the start of this story.

You got Sam so right in the aftermath of Mystery Spot, and how he felt after seeing Dean die, day after day and then the six months without him, plus the desperation of him wanting to find a solution to save Dean from his deal.

And you wrote Bobby wonderfully too, reeling from what Sam had to say but knowing when to listen rather than talk.

Looking forward to more as it does not say this story is complete!

Sarah

Author's Response:

I'm so glad you-all are liking my stories, cause I'm having a very good time writing them. I'm sorry, though, "Rise & Shine!" is complete. I put complete on it, but for some reason the system isn't accepting it. I'll have to check with Tree, see if she can help.

You know, though, maybe I won't change it. Because I'm thinking at some point in the future I'm going to revisit that story. Not at the point where I broke off this time, but a future time.  Sam could use some closure! Telling Bobby would probably only bring temporary relief.

Anyway, thanks!

Great start.  OMG Sam bitten by a skin walker isn't good, especially with everything else that is going on.  Not surprised he found it hard to tell Dean but at least his secret is finally out in the open.

Hopefully Bobby might have something in one of his tomes that will prevent Sam changing; he really doesn't deserve this, neither of them do.

Just hope that they can find some answers as, if they can't figure out a cure, Sam will die by his own hand, saving Dean and Bobby the hurt of having to do it.

And can see why Sam will take no chances and is insisting on sleeping in the panic room, terrified of what might happen.

So glad that despite all that has gone on between them Dean won't give up on his little brother and won't let him give up either.

Good job that Bill and Carl had the sense to leave, but think that Bill certainly won't let it drop, he wants Sam dead as he heard he started the apolcalypse.  Thank goodness he doesn't know about Sam being bitten by a skin walker or he certainly wouldn't have left until he had killed Sam.

And so not good that Sam now seems to be turning, his senses turning more animalisitic.

I am hoping beyond hope that they find a cure or it burns itself out as Sam has suffered so much, he just doesn't deserve this as well.  They deserve some luck for a change.

Sarah

Author's Response: I'm glad you're liking "Changing". It's pretty much consuming my life right now. Chapter 4 will post tomorrow. I think you'll like it, although I think it will end up going in a surprising direction.

You left that chapter on with a cliffhanger - who fired the shot and who screamed?

And will the demon blood in Sam's veins stop him turning, just like he was immune to the Croatoan virus?

Sam is going through significant changes, making his senses stronger and he is more powerful but am still hoping beyond hope that he doesn't change totally.  At the moment his heightened senses are doing them a favour, alerting of danger but will that be all they do?

Sarah

Author's Response: I love cliffhangers, but it definitely makes it hard waiting for what's next. Believe me, I'm waiting, too.  :)  I've got a general idea, but who knows where this will end up. I do know it will be fairly long, so I hope you're into that!

Reviewer: ziggy Signed

So glad Sam didn't kill Bill and Carl, though after what Carl has now told them it might have been easier if Bill was permanently out of the picture as he's going to convince more hunters that Sam needs to be taken out.

Glad Dean got Sam to promise that he wouldn't leave without him but will they both leave the relative safety of Bobby's salvage yard, which will make them more vulnerable but there again, the salvage yard is the first place Bill and the hunters he rounds up will look.

Sam's heightened senses and strength may be an advantage at the moment for their survival but still hoping Sam won't turn completely or they find a cure.

Things certainly aren't going to get easier for either of them, or Bobby in the near future.

Sarah

Author's Response:

Bill is a definite douchebag. And we definitely haven't seen the last of him.

FYI, just wanted you to know I just started another series, called "The Huddle". Posted it earlier today, so should be up soon. Hope you like it.

That was chilling, Azazel striking up a conversation with Sammy at the park and knowing both of their names.  No wonder Dean told their dad when he phoned that evening he needed to come and get them.  And totally believable too as we now know that people throughout Sam's life were possessed and keeping an eye on him, so why not Azazel turning up too?

In Swan Song, when Lucifer brought showed him all those people in Sam's life that had been demons. There's so much room in the canon for more detail on the boys' earlier lives. And so much fun in writing it!

That was amazing Vonnie, so wished this had happened on the show as we all wanted to see Bobby forgiving Sam.

This missing scene fit with the episode so well, and so believable I could imagine it happening as I read.

Always wanted to know how Bobby came back after it looked like he was dead and this scenario was perfect.  Spot on that Sam would feel guilty for leaving Dean to electrocute Bobby and wishing he had taken the burden from him and that Dean wanted to save Sam the burden of doing it after almost killing their surrogate father.

Loved how they both got him breathing again before it all became too much for Sam and he had the emotional breakdown he couldn't hold back any more.  And as much as Dean wanted to make it all better it was right that it was Bobby with his heartfelt words that finally got through to Sam and they had that genuine and much needed hug, for both of them.

This was perfection Vonnie, loved it from first word to last, the ultimate missing scene.

Great fic with astute observations.  And could so imagine Sam reliving Dean getting electrocuted in Faith when his brother had to electrocute Bobby to rid him of the worm.

Wise words from Bobby and loved the ending, Bobby sharing the whiskey with Sam and Dean back at the motel room.

And with regard to your chapter end notes, I think Dean and Sam left Bobby alone at the graveside for him to pay his respects and give him some space in case he broke down, it was a private moment between two old friends.  And you having him share the whiskey with the boys complimented that so well.

Great job.

Sarah

Author's Response:

Thanks, Sarah! I love the continuity of Supernatural and any chance to connect past actions or events into their present story.  You could tell that both Sam and Dean anguished about electrocuting Bobby and that there is always residual pain there.

Bobby is so wise and able to get to the heart of the matter. With Dean's speech on forgiveness, both Bobby and Sam had to be feeling it, for others and for themselves.  That is what family does.  And one reason why Rufus is to be pitied, he never moved past the hurt to offer forgiveness and that was his loss.

I agree about Bobby needing time alone with Rufus, and it is so sensitive of the boys to give him that time in case he did break down.  I just missed seeing the three of them together having that drink, which made it perfect to end my story with them sharing that bottle and supporting each other.

Thanks again, take care, B.J.

That was great Liz.  Could so imagine Sam feeling bad about not feeling bad about killing Samuel but as Dean pointed out, he may have been their grandfather but he wasn't family by the way he acted and sold them out.

And so right that Sammy would be concerned about Dean for killing Gwen, even though it wasn't him as he was infected by the worm at the time.  Gwen was the one Campbell who there was actually hope for!

And loved how you had Sammy bring out a hip flask for that 'something stronger' Dean needed to get past the chick-flick moment.

A really enjoyable read, high five girl!

Totally believable that Sam would remember Dean being electrocuted when he saw Dean having to electrocute Bobby to rid him of the Khan worm.  And seeing Bobby not breathing after the worm was expelled just tipped him over the edge.

Loved Dean in concerned big brother mode, and Sam responding to him, something sadly lacking when he was roboSam.

And Samuel may have been related to the boys by blood, but Bobby is their family.

No way was I going to let you delete this when you sent me the first part you had written and so glad your muse finally returned from hibernation to let you finish it!

Great missing scene to And Then There Were None, just wish this had been included in the episode, it tied up what needed to be.

Totally believable that Sam staged that murder/suicide accident for Samuel and Gwen, there is no way they would have left the bodies there for the authorities to find.

And loved too how you tied up for sure that Bobby had forgiven Sam for trying to kill him whilst he was soulless.  No way would Bobby want Sam feeling like he did after Rufus failed to forgive him again and he didn't want to let things fester for years like Rufus had done.  And had Sam had his soul he wouldn't have tried to kill Bobby anyway.

You were spot on that Bobby would want to perform the Tahara for Rufus even though he wasn't Jewish, he wanted to make sure all his friends wishes were followed before his burial and it was one last thing he could do for him to make amends.  And just so Sam that he would have researched and printed out the ritual for the Tahara when he couldn't sleep!

An exciting time ahead for you and Chris, even if it will mean disruption and dust for a while with the builders in. Just make sure the furball doesn't investigate where she shouldn't and end up as part of the foundations!

hugs to you both

Author's Response:

Hey, sis,

Yeah, well....after beta-ing Vonnie's and Denise's and realising they had the same jumping off point as me, and theirs were so good...*shrugs*...

Thanks for not letting me throw it away. It would always have been 'the one that got away' and that would have bugged me.

I had a long think about the bodies, wondering if it was too much effort to stage the murder/suicide, but then I thought that the boys would want to get away clean, and having two strangers turn up in the cannery like that, even after all the deaths, would be just too messy. And since Samuel hadn't actually been hidden away from the public eye like most other hunters, but had been living in a normal house on a normal street in Lawrence back when Mary was alive, I did wonder whether his fingerprints or some sort of ID might have been on file - and that would have raised its own set of questions having someone back from the dead like that.

Chuffed that you liked the solution, and the affirmation that things had been finally sorted out between Bobby and Sam.

And thanks for your help on this one, as always, sis.

Yes sis, I was more than a little excited to find this in my inbox to beta, it was great to dust off my beta hat and find it hadn't been eaten by moths during the extended hiatus of your muse!  If she goes AWOL again I'm more than willing to come and kick your a*se myself and get her back into gear! :)

This tag was perfect, you were so inside Dean's alcohol soaked brain there as he mulled over Sam getting mad and leaving.  Loved that you had him realise that they had been lied to most of their lives, and the lies started even before they were born with Mary making the deal.  And he didn't just blame Sam, they were both responsible for lying all the way down the line, even if they thought it was for the right reasons sometimes.

So believable that he was tempted to ring Sam but didn't in case he didn't pick up and he was tempted to drink more.

At least at the end of The Mentalists they finally talked and hopefully both boys will be more willing now to be more sharing and caring as Dean would put it, trusting each other and not keeping secrets.

Loved this from first word to last sis, beautifully crafted and perfectly executed, so believable and in character.

Sarah

Author's Response:

Hey, sis!

I bet you were - lol. It's been a wee while hasn't it? But hey - if my muse goes missing again, how come you're going to come kick my arse??? Shouldn't you be kicking hers????

I thought that in the depths of his depression and alcohol abuse, and without Sam there to keep up a brave face for, Dean would be brutally honest within the privacy of his own thoughts. And he's known all along, even though he probably wouldn't admit it out loud, who has lied and to whom. And yep, it started with Mary, let's face it. She kept John in the dark about the demon deal and her life as a hunter, and about how her parents died. Understandably she didn't want him to go screaming up the street, never to be seen again, but still....and that pattern has continued from her to John, to Dean and down to Sam.

All lies, however the motives for lying were either trying to protect those they loved or protect themselves from censure and mistrust.

Thanks so much for your help on this one, and for the hand-holding when I thought I'd gone very rusty during my hiatus.

hugs

Ju

Totally believable.  I could so imagine Sam's words that he didn't need Dean anymore reverberating around in his head but I'm pretty sure Sam would not have said them if he was not doped up on love potion and thinking Becky was the be all and end all;  I think he will always need Dean and vice versa.   And with Sam saying that Dean could finally get to take care of himself, I'm pretty sure that he wasn't pushing Dean away, just wanted Dean to do things he wanted to do, think of himself for once as his whole life he has put others first and his needs and desires last.  I think Sam feels some guilt that Dean has spent most of his life taking care of him and he wants to be there for his big brother as much as he is for him.

Loved how you had Dean quickly making it to Sam's bed as his nightmare got worse and pressing the scar on his hand to bring him out of it, like Sam does when Lucifer visits during the day, and could so see Sam asking Dean to stay until he fell asleep as he still needs his big brother even though he is getting his head around what is going on in his head.

You haven't lost your touch girl and thanks for the dedication. :)

Author's Response:

I think you're right, Sarah.  I think Sam does feel guilty that Dean has always taken care of him but he wants Dean to think he doesn't have to anymore even though he really does still need him.  It's just going back to that self-sacrificing cycle they always go through.

Thanks for the awesome review and the pretty stars!

Great start to this story Karen with Sam brooding and grieving and trying to keep a lid on his emotions, no wonder Dean is wanting him to talk and let it all out. And Dean is right, the lid on Sam's emotions is bound to erupt soon. Not so sure this hunt will be as easy as Dean thought even though the ghosts so far have not harmed them, unless you count one pushing Dean and him causing Sam to fall and cut his cheek! And just what is the ghost trying to communicate with Sam?

Loving this first part and can't wait for the second :) Hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving Karen.

And love the banner Chris has made for you, it's perfect :)

Wonderful to read another story from you sis, and what a great New Year's present to us all, it doesn't matter at all that it is a few days late as it's not even twelfth night yet!

Loved how you set this in the aftermath of Death's Door with the boys suffering from grief and, in typical Winchester fashion, they are skirting the issue .  And to top it all off Sam's hallucinations are hitting harder again.

Just like Sam to want to go jogging to escape Lucifer in his head for a while and so like Dean to stop at a bar and nurse a few beers when going into town to get supplies, so in character with their escaping and coping mechanisms.

You just knew something would happen to Sam on that jog and Winchester luck that it was a bear trap that he stepped onto when going to investigate the sound he heard.  And so understandable that Sam though Mary was another hallucination when she appeared, especially as he wasn't thinking straight because of the pain and that Lucifer appeared again.

Perfect how you we found out Mary was missing as Dean went into town in search of his little brother and we were introduced to Sister Agnes.

Winchester luck would strike again with  Dean's phone battery going flat in the middle of his call to Sam but loved how once he lost the trail of Sam's footprints the distant light of Mary's torch led Dean to them.

Fantastic ending, absolutely adored that Mary was the baby from Foundling that they left at the orphanage all those years ago, no wonder she felt she knew Sam from somewhere and felt safe with him, even if she was too young to remember at the time.  And loved how Dean gave Sam the same torch as Mary's as a Christmas present and requeted Sam buy him an instant phone charger when he was sorry he hadn't got Dean anything.

And love at the very end Sam figuratively sticking two fingers up at the hallucination of Lucifer, telling him he knew nothing about being brothers.  Hopefully with the boys being together that will be a great force to cope with what lies ahead for them - leviathans watch out!

An absolutely fantastic read sis, gripped me from first word until last, and another stunning banner from Chris.

Happy New Year and hope 2012 is a fantastic one for both of you :)

Sarah

Author's Response:

Yo! I'm tickled pink that you enjoyed it.

Actually, I'm flipping relieved as all hell that I managed to get it finished and posted in a reasonable timeframe! It almost ended up as next year's Christmas story!

It's an interesting exercise to pick a spot in the timeline, and then climb inside the boys' heads. Not as easy these days as it used to be, I have to confess. There's a lot more going on in the present timeframe. But I'm chuffed that you feel I've hit the mark with their coping strategies.

And yep, Sam going jogging with a nice, juicy target painted on his back as usual. I might have to start bashing Dean up for a while, just to give Sam a rest, eh? ROFL!

Thanks for all your help on this one, sis, especially since I know you were snowed under at work when I sent it off to you.

I hope your New Year brings everything you wish for, and more.

hugs!
