Ah, I'm so glad your favourite part was the prompt for the story - Sam knowing that Dean once tried to hock the Impala for information on his disappearance. 

This is almost like a little sleeper story - it went up mid-week, not my usual posting night, so it sort of got lost in the shuffle a bit. But it keeps ticking along nonetheless.

If you lined me up against a wall and threatened to shoot me if I didn't answer, I'd have to admit that this is one of my favourites. If that's not too vain an admission.

The story came together so easily, it was almost a dream to write. I wanted to explore Sam's anger, even back then, and his fiercely protective streak where his big brother is concerned. I'd heard comments off and on about how Sam doesn't care as much about Dean as Dean does about Sam, and I think that's bullcrap. Sam is headstrong and of a different personality than his big brother, but that doesn't mean he loves Dean any less.

Just because he longs to have a life of his own away from hunting - well, he used to - doesn't equate to not loving his family. Well, it doesn't in my book.

So this was a chance to showcase that. And of course, have fun with Dean's snarky mouth getting him into hot water - lol. And I couldn't resist the comparison of the season one boys, with Sam doe-eyed and gentle, and Dean fierce and protective, but their hearts cut from the same cloth. Eagle and dove.

So glad you enjoyed reading this one as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Thank you. That is such high praise. 

I've always been a Dean girl, but I also love Sammy, so I try my best to do justice to both boys. And I understand where Sam is coming from most of the time. Suppose I'm sliding gracefully into bi-bro status since meeting Jared at the first Oz Con - lol. And now that Sammy's all grown up....*fans self*

Glad you loved the story. It was a birthday present for BHoney, who lost the bid for me at the one and only author auction I ever signed up for. Swellison won me, and got In Order Of Importance. And it was a bit of a collaboration with Beth as to what she wanted for the story. So I'm thrilled to hear that others have enjoyed it as well as the recipient.

Hi, Laina,

Yes, I know what you mean. My poor old heart ached when Bobby was so distant with Sam, even though I understood it. But I almost sang with joy when Bobby showed such open relief at seeing Sam alive and unhurt after his stand-off with Samuel in And Then There Were None. I figured somewhere along the line, they must have talked, and sorted things out. Or Bobby decided to work at letting it go, for the sake of the boys.

I think I had this wishful thinking in my head when I wrote this, though, that Bobby would eventually settle his differences with his youngest.

And don't worry, you made perfect sense.
