LOL, yup a lot of work, Sam. Lets hope that Jax is a quick learner. It's quite lump forming to know that what Sam is doing is pretty much what Dean did with him.

Jax has quite a distinctive personality coming out, think I quite like him.

Dean's attempts at drawning him out were cute, but kids can be darn awkward when it suits!  I love Dean's nickname.

I'm hoping that Joshua has just gong to the little boys room because I think, even whilst occupied picking Dean up from his fight, Michael would sense if bad were around.

I don't know how Michael expects Dean to survive without being able to hussel, its pretty much how he and Sam have done over the years.

::shiver:: ooh that was a tingly ending to the chapter.  A ray of hope given to Sam, lets hope that he holds onto it and turns all that anger into something constructive, rather than use Jax as his whipping boy.  AT the end of the day, they both need each other until their respective brothers can be found.

Ekk!  What a bad assed chapter that was.  Jax is not who we think and Dean's got the Devil on his back, not to mention a thirsty vamp. Great stuff.

I'm just loving how this is playing out and can only imagine whats to come.  Dean you are so up to your neck in it.

Living such parallels aren't they these two brothers.  Jax will find, should it come to it, that killing your brother is a lot easier to say than do. Lets hope that he dosen't have to, but there are always casulties aren't there.

Gabriel, master of all guises.  I'm hoping that he's keeping a good eye on them as well as attempting to guide them.

Wise words from Bobby and a hearbreaking image of Sam with his unshed tears heading off in the impala.  ::choked::

Gosh so many deals going on and I'm not liking any of them. Dean and Sam do appear to be on the wrong end of all of them, though half of me doesn't want to totally believe the Vamp.

Dean obviously has no idea how important his amulet is, maybe Gab needs to give him some idea or it could all go to pot!

Poor Jax can't quite fit in can he.  Totally understand Sam and Bobby's thoughts but at the end of the day, they've agreed to help him and that means on all levels, not just learning to be a hunter.  A man needs warmth as well as food to grow.

Poor Sam getting himself into a bit of a tight corner, but hopefully, this will have consequences as to how Sam will feel about Jax.  I'd like him to feel a little more comfortable around the two hunters.

More please!

Oh not a great choice there, huh. Either way it spells inpending doom, if not just for the boys, but in the bigger picture, the world.

Surprised that Dean allowed himself to be led into this situation. Where's Gab when you need him.

Ack, I've got to the last chapter, more please!  Hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving Holiday.

Hey Gaelic

I read this in two parts deliberately because the first half, with the girl, just ripped something from inside of me and I had to go regroup and think about it before I could move onto the next part of the story.

The lyrics at the begining of this section were so in tune with what you wrote. Two totally lost souls looking for something that I don't think they are going to find. It's so heartbreaking, grabbing some much needed release, when really deep down Dean has so much more, that honestly will probably never be discovered and shared on a regular 'normal' bais. That really jumped out at me and it was painfully sad.

And then he goes back to Sam and his heavy burden just gets all the more heavier.  Ruby, the pain in Dean's side and a fragmented conversation between the boys that says so much.

Dean trying desperately to save Sam and then unwilling to hear Sam's need to tell him how important he is to him, how he needs his big brother around period. How he 'needs' to save Dean. Hells bells, big lump in throat time.

A fabulous 'shortie' m'dear. You more than prove that beautifully constructed 'short' can indeed be deliciously 'long.'

Chocolate heading your way!

Jane :)

Author's Response:

*HUGS*

You, m'dear, are wonderful. Thanks so much for this. That first part was indeed the moment that caused me hesitation in posting, so I am much relieved that it impacted you so greatly. The song haunted me and I saw these scenes playing out and heard certain phrases as if they were mine. As if I were saying them. And who knows... perhaps I could have been. I'm nothing like Dean as a person. I'm emotional and smushy and I think WAAAY too much about stuff. But I've had to live like him. Well, minus the demon-killing and soul dealing. I've been responsible for the lives of others from a young age and there are times when I watch that character and I want to weep.

OKAY! What is it about this story and drama? Yeesh. Sorry. Anyway, thank you so much for this review. I appreciate all of your words.

Slainte,

Gaelic

A good first chapter. You have the voices of Dean and Sam and good characterisation.

I'm enjoying the hurt already of poor Dean and the rather silly drunk Sam is good to read too.  Jo I like, but not sure I'm into a ship thing with those two.

Typos, a couple there; and I know that hazel eyes can shift to green but I'd definitely put Dean as a green eyed boy.  Otherwise, an interesting start and I'm certainly going to be going on to find out what happens next.

Thank you for your review Jane and I'm pleased you are finding it ok.  It was my first ever long story and though far from perfect I'm really fond of it.  It's sequel is at chapter 10 now "So Not An Angel!".

And yup have settled on green eyes now!

I'm like a fish around you, I just can't resist the hook! And this is a big one, has me good and proper, lots of intrigue to make me want to read even faster and get to the next chappie.

But good things should be savoured so my own brakes are on. I have to say that I'm loving the banter in the hotel and the car with the boys, the Britney reference heehe.

I was immediately transported to the Time Warpe Dance in the Rocky Horror Show when they walked into the hotel, you've got plenty of odd balls there to cover it well!  And i really loved the descriptions of staff and decore.

These townsfolk are certainly petrified by Wells and appear to have no will of their own, though from a personal viewpoint I'd like to say that I think 1962 is a jolly good vintage year and lots of nice people were born then ;)

That aside, with the dreams and the ghost writing I'd rather like our boys to pack and head out of town as its not looking good and from lying on his back, which I imagine is where I will find Dean in chapter two, I'd say that they are definitely in a disadvataged position here.

I'm worried!!  And it's you, so I know that I should be very worried for our boys. *g

Jane :)

Author's Response:

Hey, what can I say... I love reeling you in. ;) I'm so glad you're enjoying this! I hope you have fun with the other two chapters as well.

And yup, you're pretty spot on where you'll be finding Dean next chappie... but fear not. I love these boys too much to damage them TOO severely... As my hero, Dean must always be able to walk away... eventually.

Now, I'm off to buy some soccer (er-football) jersey's for a certain someone's Christmas present... good thing he doesn't read these...

::takes a breath:: gosh that was relentless, my poor finger nails are pretty much gone. Fast paced, scary as hell, it had it all.  Icky arm popping, yuk I could hear the pop.  And there was I feeling sorry (yet enjoying, I know, bad me) Dean being blow up, then ya goes and really does the boy in.  This was a very traumatic chapter, both physically and mentally for Dean. And poor Sam desperately wanting to be there for his bro, when he pulls him into his lap, I just wanted to cry.

And it just got better, with Dean's inner torments filtering to the surface and you really have just drawn him to the very edge, the cracks are spreading out and he's gonna break.

The demon wants Sam, so Dean wants out.  No saving the town, in this one Sam comes first.

A very exciting chapter, glad I waited for some peace and quiet to read it.

Onwards to the next chappie, but a cuppa tea first, keep me from nibbling my nails

Jane :)

Author's Response:

Hi!! Okay, most sincere apologies for taking so long to reply to your lovely reviews. The holidays kept me away from my computer... but I'm here now and return bearing thanks for reading and taking time to review!

I had a great time writing this story -- despite the trauma I put the boys through. It was the first I'd written for publication in a zine and I had no idea how to shorten a story or what to expect as a result. I'm SO pleased you enjoyed the events of this chapter. I tried to break it up so that something "significant" happened in each installment... this being the one (in my mind) with the greatest physical pain.

Sorry about the nails...

First off, I love the quote by clara. I come from a large family and I really connected with that, I may send that round to them all today with my christmas greeting.

But so, onto the story.  The tables turn and it's Sam protecting Dean, fabulous.  And thank god for Kelly or I dread to think what would have happened, both down to the bare threads.

Another jaw dropping, wincing moment for me as his shoulder was popped back in. I have this icky thing about joints and kneecaps so that was tummy wrenching to read. Beautifully written I was so there feeling Dean's pain and wiping away the trickling sweat. Poor boy!'

Dean, ack don't you just want to smack him sometimes. So set in his determination to protect Sammy and leaving himself more vulnerable than ever, but it's also the trait I so love about him; devotion and utterly selfless.

Thank god Sam came to the rescue and then there was the lovely tear jeking moment when Kelly saw his mum again and all forgiven.

But my fav was back at the garage, closure and like you said it doesn't normally happen so that was rather cute and sweet and I think the boys both needed and deserved a 'kodak moment.'

I really did enjoy this story, it held me in its grip from begining to end, but you know I always hate it when it ends, so roll on the next story!

Jane :)

Author's Response:

Did you end up sending out the quote? I am the oldest of 5 -- raised two of my sibs -- and I found that quote to be particularly true. :)

I love Sam the most when he's on fire for his brother. When he's fighting for him, protecting him, fighting because of him -- I think that's why Season 3 Sam has actually appealed to me for the first time. Dean does so much, puts himself through so much, that when he's down, that's when Sam really shines.

I'm glad you liked the bon voyage. I wanted someone to say "thanks" to them... even if they don't always know what to do with it.

Next story is a-rollin'. I took some time off for the holidays, but am planning on starting chapter 1 of In the Light next week, while SJ and I also wrap up Bloody Sunday.

Thanks so much for reading, Jane! You always bring a smile to my face.

Oh wow that packed some punches, Abe comes back - bless he feels like a pair of comfortable slippers to me and I like that the boys are not alone - and Dean, ack the boy has a gunshot wound and he's off hustling pool, what is he like.  Leaving Sam to pour himself into a bottle as he remembers the sequence of events that led to him shooting Dean.

It should have stopped there and the pair of them sent off to their much needed beds, but ha, not those boys.  Nope, a treat of a fight, should I apologise for loving the whumping? And then the angst of Sam and then as if it couldn't be any more packed, you throw in the dog/wolf guarding Dean's car. Hmm, is there more to this animal than immediately meets the eye.  Is he somehow associated with Abe I wondered?

And so they finally get to bed after introductions and realisation that they are where they should be and safe, thank goodness.  Once again Dean is stoic coping with Sam when really he needs a huge helping of TLC himself.

The poignant realisation by Dean that his dad had come for them at Abe's, he cared and Dean is suddenly hit by how much he misses him, definitely a dry throat moment there.

Fabbie, roll on the next chapter, I need feeding and it's not with sticky toffee pudding (with cream) this time.

Jane :)

Author's Response:

Jane -- so good to see you here!! Never apologize for whump-loving. Otherwise, who would I be writing for?

This chappie needs to be captured on film. Dancing juke box, with sparks trying to bite Dean's legs, exploding bottles, creepy whiskey climbing up the wall to turn into a pair or spooky eyes - will I ever touch the stuff again - No! Wow, just wow.  It was definitely technocolour, that chappie came to life for me, scarily, I wanted to step back from the computer, great stuff, Gaelic.

I am so enjoying seeing the boys through Abe's eyes. Because he is so intuitive, spiritual so able to see beyond what others cannot. He has come to understand, even from his short time with the boys previously, what they mean to each other, their pain, devotion to each other, what their father meant to them. It's like glimpsing into the boys psych through the back door without them knowing that we are seeing their vulnerability - I find it cuts a bit deeper when viewed by Abe - does any of that make sense, not sure I'm explaining myself properly! *g

When Dean fell off the cliff my mind did a quick flip back a few pages 'omg good the darn cliff' that you'd mentioned ::casually:: earlier and that I'd completely forgotten about, and obviously, so had Dean. Very clever, though not for Dean.  I have a feeling he's going to be a tad crumpled and torn (oh delicious... sick bad girl Jane!)

Roll on the next chapter, serioiusly cannot wait.

 Jane :)

Author's Response:

*claps*

Thanks so much, Jane! I am so enjoying your take on Abe. It's exactly what I wanted the character to draw out in readers. And yeah, I was a bit mean about the "casual" mention of the cliff. There are more of those in here, too, that will hopefully get a "ding!" when events transpire... assuming I'm doing this right.

Thanks again! I can't wait to see what you think of the next parts.

Best,

Gaelic

Squeel, that was an impressive Dean whumping chapter and he's still on his feet god bless him he has got some staying power.  The adrenalin rush is going to help him through the next bit, but I see a major crash heading his way.

I'm just loving Lobo, I had a feeling he would come do his Lassie bit and his protective stance around Dean was fab; there is definitely a connection happening between them. I'm hoping he stays in the thread as he really adds to the storyline.

Love the reverse roll Sam's taking and Dean, once conscious, pushing hard to get the roles back how he likes them. Snappy, hurting dean, just wonderful, he doesn't do the invalid gig well, does he now?  I was giggling at Dean's reaction to lying against Sam. I love the humorous touch admist the pain and angst.

But dear Sam, I feel so much for him trying so hard to clear up in his head what happened before - it seems to be playing over in a loop like nightmare - can't go back and definitely can't go on - and Dean, so bloody stoic, just doing the 'move on' bit, which doesn't work for Sam at all and, truth be told, Dean neither; but it's what he does. Ack, I teetered between wanting to bash their heads together and weeping for the lack of healing closure.  Abe, seeing so much, I do hope that he can help these two find absolution from their guilt at the possession Sam suffered. It's extra baggage that neither can afford to carry.

Okay, that's a teasing place to leave it, huh!! Bloody walls, an un-named body (hopes it's Sal that will be one less problem- hehee) and not only do the lights go out, but there ends the chappie!! Hmm, evil wicked writer that yea be, hurry hurry with the next part. Dean needs to rest you can't leave him cold and hurting for too long there now can ya??

I'm off for a hot chocolate drink, all this talk of freezing cold water has made me cold.  And since you left us on a cliff, I deserve a treat - marshmallows with it.

Great chapter, I'm now intwined and living this story, so hurry back soon.

Jane :)

Author's Response:

You are fantastic, my friend -- your thought process is consistently smile-inducing. :) I'm glad you are enjoying this. Don't cry for lack of healing closure too soon... if I do it right, you might get your wish. But that's all I'll say about that.

Oh that was icky. I could smell the fetid breath and blood you write so vividly.  Slipping and sliding in blood, organs displayed like market day fruit, oh that was one gross chapter in places; I was so there and so didn't want to be. Poor boys is all I can say, get them out quick!

An interesting turn with the ikiryoh and Yeats daughter and I think there is more to this than meets the eye.  Why would her spirit suddenly resurrect in this ikiryoh after sixteen years. And it certainly stirred up some painful memories for Dean. I half wondered if that was why the ikiryoh initially targeted Dean because he offered lots of likeminded emotions.

Dean admitting to Sam he was just holding it together, that's a huge confession for him and the fact he actually went for a nap on the sofa, speaks volumns as to how fragile his body is at the mo. Thank god he's got that stealed personality to get him over his physical failings.  And moreso now as Sam is in huge trouble, which I hope doesn't end with another Alien explosion!!!  How the heck did it get into him, doesn't he too have a charm like Dean?

And ::hugs Abe:: taking control and Dean letting him, again that barely holding it together thing, he's relishing in someone else taking the pressure off of him, leaving him free to keep a good eye on Sam.

Great chapter, lovely cliffy, but how will I manage to get through another week!

Stare, indeed I did that, at the screen, couldn't keep my peeps from it.  The movie was most defintitely playing in my head and it was service as normal from this gals pov, and what a service it was.  Ack, so many's a goings on, where to start!!!

Sam tucked dark inside his own body fighting an angst sucking ikiryoh; i should be worried, I have a lot in common with it, knowing my own warped love of angst!

And Dean, ah my Dean how torn is he coping with Sam, trying so hard to ease his brothers load and managing to stay upright when he really should be flat on his back (oh the imagery*g)  Surprised that he finally conked out? Nope, how did he last so long - purely because it's Sam and he lives and breaths his bro, gotta be there for him, whatever the cost to himself.

Add to that Claire, god what an evil little cow she is. I know she's been through hell, but the boys are not to blame for that and I'm not really sure her dad is. Misguided, yes, but he seems a decent enough guy.

Lobo, I love him, he's so connected to Dean and once again he has appeared at just the right time to save the dear boy.

Dean realising that Sam wasn't protected and making sure he fixed that before keeling over and giving in to his body's need to just rest.  And Abe calling out the emergency room to Dean. Go Doc!

I see a storm arriving, Bobby and ooh what is this with him and Maggie, romance... Bobby you quiet old dog you!!

Loved this, hope that comes through, and I truly hope that RL settles for you.

Jane :)

Author's Response:

Ach, Jane, there you are, my dear! Thanks so much for reading and taking time to send me this beautiful review. I appreciate it deeply.

What a lot of pain and hurt going on in this chapter, both physical and emotional.

But first to Sam and his awful battle with the ikiryoh  (I have to check the spelling of that everytime) and clever lad realising only he could rid himself of it.

I did rather wonder if he would later wish he'd not put it into Sal, as he's a softie at heart, but even if he does I believe that if Dean survivies its a mental demon he will be able to deal with.

If Dean weren't so poorly the vision of him in the shower would have been a very pleasant one, but he's a darn sick boy. Sam using his childhood knowledge to cool him down, and getting desperate as it didn't seem to be working, bless in comparison his childhood fever was probs half of what Dean is dealing with. Then help arrives with our Bobby and Abe getting the medicine- he's got a fighting chance now - and its all hopefully coming together (and am sure you will spoil my illusion in the next chapter, but I'm enjoying the moment!)

Poor Maggie, cool that she's based on Thru Terry's Eye's I've read her bio and I can see the connection there.  Though in my minds eye Maggie is heaps older!  I sense an unrequitted love in Bobby/Maggie? I wonder why he left, if you say there is more about Maggie later, I hope that you touch on her relationship with Bobby.

Dean gave away lots of little gems in his fever. I did one of those sharp intakes of breath when I read that his dad sang to Sam and Sam's reaction, fab

And can we have a check on Lobo, my favourite fictional animal is possibly hurt and I'm worrying, Gaelic.

And finally, as you do so well, a cliffy (on a side, I'd been shouting at Bobby to pick his gun back up, having put in down on the table I was so worried that Sal in his deranged state would get to it.)  And now the-thing-i-can't-spell has got out of Sal and I have a feeling that the sh** is about to hit the fan.

I offer you a Lindt chocolate bunny as my virtual easter gift to you; I  recommend eating the ears first, they are so thick its enough for one munching session.

Happy Easter and god bless.

Jane :)

Dean we are so on the same page with the pronouncing, spelling in my case too, of that irk...?!? thingy.

Intro literally gave me a headache, m'dear from all the tension, I was sucking it in from all of them.  Screaming for them to drop out of whatever the 'I' (my own personal shorthand there as you know my sp probs LOL) had them gripped in.

Dean, omg man it was heading right for him, tasty angst meal coming up, and no one, but no one was movin and Dean was it's target. ARgghh! Tension overload.

Okay, slight relief with Dean and his 'so...juicy' comment but then the pressure was back on and when it jumped on him I was screaming for them all to do something.

And you just know how to work the reader up, a touch of comedy 'I'm naked' thrown in to aid the lack of momentum in getting out of the place. Jeezus, move it was pulsing through my head.

Some fabulous angsty, contemplative moments as the boys thought seriously about sitting this one out. Dean needing to slide into the chair, bonless but somehow hanging onto the conversation with his music and realising that they had to be there period. Feed me, feed me I love this internalising stuff.

Bobby and Maggie, ack he was only protecting her when he left, worried that she would end up dead; that is one hell of a sacrifice to make for someone. And her simple declaration of love and the painful clarity with which Dean realises its something that he's never experience, ooh that left a lump in my throat!

Lobo!  Taraaah he's ok which pleased me muchly and Dean too. His talisman all up and running, okay a little dogeared *g round the edges but there to protect and help Dean.

And once again, Dean is our hero, all around him are dropping like flies and he's up there gun a shooting and its all horribly chaotic with Sam on the floor. I loved the mixed up, clutteredness of this part of the story everything happening at once. Fab.

And Claire finally the truth of the 'I' emerging and, I'm sure thankfully for Dean and Sam who see too much death, she survives.

And what a delicious ending. Lobo connecting with Dean and Dean likewise connecting back with him and Sam. Knowing he was safe as he sinks into his own much needed oblivion.

::sigh::  I'm exhausted from reading this chapter!!  *vbg* Bring on the next, I'm loving this so very much.

Oh we've had snow here, not masses but enough to get a snowball or two going.  Teenagers are worse than wee ones for wanting to get a hit or two on an unsuspecting parent! What happened to the old days when we built a sweet little old snowman!! LOL.

Take care, Jane :)

Author's Response:

Terry said the same thing about the "iki..." I said I didn't *have* to pronounce it... I just had to write it. But... yeah, I don't think I'd do much better than Dean. :)

Okay, and I know it's evil, but I'm grinning that you're exhausted!! Tee hee! I did something right. *grins*

I'm so pleased you have enjoyed this and that you let me know what speaks to you. Means more to me than you know.

Snowmen are a thing of the past, my friend. AH, those were the days.

Best to you,

Gaelic

Bad me, read this but didn't have time to reply and then forgot!!

So, what a story this was Gaelic I have you to thank for my lack of fingernails right now. Though over the last two weeks they've grown again.  Just don't go writing anything too nail biting just yet, give a girl a chance!

Dean, hurt, man you know how to please a girl.

What a powerful conversation that was with his Dad, helping Dean to return to Sam, encouraging him to fight hard.  It was a very different take on fighting death.

And then he's back and Sam's unconscious hand running protectively up Dean's arm just speaks volumns.  Yes, Dean, it's an Ikea!! I was feeling all twisted stomach in knots with hurt Dean one moment  and then howling with laughter at his reference to the thing I can't spell.  We'll go shopping together Dean and get a couple new tables!  (Assuming that Ikea the store is in the States and you know what I mean?!)

I loved Dean's growly command that Sam go to help sort out the problems back at the house/bar and Sam's surprise but then his unrealistic (but expected) comment that Dean doesn't go slip off anywhere - as if that is going to happen - heehe, maybe not in the way that Sam meant but Dean's, well, Dean and yeah he went. *g

Poor Claire, her shell of a body housing pure evil and Dean looking into the eyes of hell and realising what's living inside her and that and the walk totally knackering him out.  Love the dual comments as Sam found him in the lift, so on the same page aren't they, lol.

Hurray, Lobo safe and in good hands. Love Sam's comment 'If' about carrying him, very funny.  I'm glad that Abe is going back to his people and taking Lobo with him, that's made me happy.  I like Abe's character, but I didn't see him as a hunter, he's a spiritual man and should helping people but in a different way.  However, his sideways path did help Sam and Dean and was obivously mean to be and his deeper understanding of what sacrifies they had made, I'm sure, will make his time with his people that much more meaningful.

Bobby, what can I say, you dirty dog you!! LOL.

I'm glad it ended up where it did, not with the boys going off into the distance. Dean still needs to heal and Sam to see that happen.

This has been a fabulous story, Gaelic I have enjoyed every little bit.  Thanks so much for sharing.  Please don't leave us wanting for more delicious fiction for too long, will you?

Jane :)

Author's Response:

Jane!! How fantastic to see you at the end of all things (for this story, at least). Sorry about the fingernails. Sorta.

I am so pleased you liked this chapter enough to come back and leave me some words -- and you know how much I love your words.

As for more fiction, I've got three in the works, but will be posting them one at a time over the summer. I took a little time off, but found that I couldn't take too much time because my muse was leaving grooves in my brain that I have to fill with words!

Take good care of you!
