Oh, this one brought tears to my eyes. What a wonderful salute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Brings Billy Ray to mind: All gave some and some gave all And some stood through for the red, white and blue And some had to fall And if you ever think of me Think of all your liberties and recall Some gave all --c
Author's Response: Cricket, Thanks for your wonderful review. As you can imagine this story is very close to my heart. We often overlook those that have sacrificed everything to give us so much that is often taken for granted. Welcome aboard, this is a wonderful site. Crystal

Beautiful story, in that the descriptions were so vivid, and it just felt so...real. I guess that's because it was, partially. Thank you for your service, I've been in the Army for 4 years myself, with another four left to go. And, although I know it must get old, I'm so sorry for your losses, I have a sister myself...can't imagine. Anyway, great story, thanks for posting :) ~Sierra
Author's Response: Sierra, thank you so much for your kind words, and thank you for your service to your country, it is greatly appreciated. I'm glad you enjoyed my story. Please stay safe. Crystal

I read your story twice and absolutely loved it. Thank you so much for writing a story that honors our vets. I greatly appriciate what you, your sister and husband did for our country. My bro. is serving now in Iraq in the army and along with my uncle who is a marine. I loved how you wrote Johns past memories of being in Viet Nam. I took a few history classes in high school and college that just dealt with that war. Thank you again for a great story!
Author's Response: Melissa, thank you for your kind words. I felt it was important to get this story out, it practically wrote itself. My prayers go out to your bro and uncle and all our men and women who serve. Crystal

What an absolutely beautiful little fic. It was so effective in first person from John's pov. I absolutely loved the Winchester connection, your reflected how strong it is. Your description of the boys smiles and John's reaction to them was stunning. Your words here was outstanding - "It was always so much easier with Dean, there was an understanding between us that Sam just never got. Sam never saw or heard Dean question me or argue. Dean did both regularly, mostly on Sam’s behalf. Dean would never betray a confidence, not mine or Sam’s. It was part of his make up, our protector, our peacemaker, our go between, and he took his role seriously, sometimes too much for my liking. We both needed him desperately, but I don’t think either of us ever took the time to tell him how much" beautifully writeen. You wrote John's fear at the thought that Dean was lost with emotion and I felt it with him. John's fashbacks to both Mary and his tours was perfectly timed and added ambience as well as background. You were spot on here because you had me holding my breath. Your scene of Dean's rescue was stunning. The fallen still working to save others, the salute from our boys, the connection of a mutual recognition, the tears - just awesome! As a tribute and a fic you nailed it. A toast to your John and Melody, your respect and love for them shone through.
Author's Response: Thanks for your kind words. I glad this touched you. This story really means a great deal to me. Crystal
