All right, the whole piece was great, but three things stuck out as particularly amazing.

1. That John hurt himself and stained the watch by doing something as mundane as threading popcorn onto a string using a need.

(It's too easy to forget that, between the demons, vampires, and monsters, the Winchesters would also still have some normalcy in their lives. Thanks for the reminder!)

2. The line "Cos old man's or not, that knife is just plain cool." Pure Dean-ism, and definitely in his voice.

3. The fact that Dean has thought all this out in one day, and that Sam misses how much throwing out any of their father's belongings is tearing him up. (Of course, Dean is the consummate Hunter, always travelling light, so the fact that he keeps anything at all should alert Sam to how important this ritual is for Dean.

Thanks for this intense list...I could definitely see Dean thinking all of this through. Keep up the great work!

It made me remember how I felt when my Dad died, the unbearable loss, grief, anger-no rage!, guilt, fear, dispair, pain, but thank God, love too.

The lines at the end of each item broke my heart time and time again.

So sad, and so so beautifully written you should be very proud.

Such emotion in your writing. Each item was perfect and Dean's memories and connections through your words floored me. To asign an emotion to each one was creative and poignant. I loved, laughed and cried with each one. You revealed Dean's struggles, feelings, memories that he hides behind his wall with accuracy and integrity to the show and to the characters. Your writing style and the structure is of this one are unique to this genre and sets a high standard. This is one of my fav fics... ever!

I'm a fan of all your work, and this tops my list.  Love the items you picked, really each one (except maybe the really really big knife..lol) are the things I think about when I think of my own Dad.  Also I can totally see just how much Dean would blame himself for John's decision.  Really enjoyed this one and just to let you know I nominated you for the Readers Choice Award for best spirit for your Veracity and I still think that's one of the best stories I've read - Thanks for the Great read - K.

Author's Response:

Hey, thanks so much!  I really, really appreciate you taking the time to read and to nominate me - that is awesome.  :o)  The collection of objects were supposed to be the sort of mundane things many people associate with their fathers; the knife, then, is somewhat symbolic of the impact hunting has on Dean's relationship with his Dad.

I'm glad you liked Veracity, too - it was my first foray into the fandom, and people have been so kind with their reviews.

Cant believed I nearly missed this gem. I love the way you write, so descriptive, harsh and soft at the same time, and very real, but funny too. You are VERY talented, please post more, I will be looking out for your work.

Author's Response: Thanks so much!  :o)  I enjoy writing it so much, and it's nice to know that people enjoy reading it too.  There'll be more stuff coming soon, I'd imagine.

This is an amazing piece of work, I'm a great admirer of your writing style. (but you knew that already, right?!) Each "thing" I got to I thought ...this is my favourite one...and then you went and floored me with the next one. Every. Time. And that last line? Is a cracker. Fantastic. Thank you!

Author's Response:

*blushes*  Hey, thanks!  I'm chuffed that you like my writing.  I'm also pleased that the collection of objects worked for you.  The last line...if you asked him, I'm sure Dean would never say it aloud.  But I have the feeling he often thinks it.

Beautiful and painful at the same time.  John's death...so fresh.  Dean's wounds so open, so sore.  Great job....I'm tearing up, dammit!

Author's Response: Thankyou so much for reading, and taking the time to comment.  Poor Dean...I don't think that particular wound is ever going to close for him.
