Awesome update, Kel! I can really tell how much fun you had writing this. It just flows nicely and I found myself sitting there really stunned that I had reached the end of the chapter already. I loved Carolines thoughts on Dean, him being not a normal teenager at all. Oh, and one more cliffie there... I am really looking forward to how you will bring this one home, however I will also be sad to see it end :)

It's wonderful that Sam sees Caroline as a mom! How nice that they get to be mothered a little. I never thought of seeing the Winchesters through Caroline's eyes as they pull out weapons. She's right to think they would cause her niece harm. Way to think out of the box.

So, now that there are no more of those little 'next' buttons, you hit me with a cliffy...how could you...lol. Have to say this has been a great read so far and I know you had concerns about pacing and lack of action but I don't see it like that at all. What you have here is a solid plot woven into a great story, full of beautiful set pieces that depict the boys growing up, showing us how they came to be the men they are. And the action comes when it needs to, enriching the plot. You haven't resorted to a cliffy every chapter (um, like me...hehe) but it's your writing style that brings the reader back for more. I feel sure this is not the only time I'll be reading this and I'm very pleased it got the recognition it deserved by getting the 'readers choice' award...it was well deserved. Great writing Kel...watching for the last chapter...Louy

Loved the pink underwear, the photos in the wallet and most of all the devious little brother who's not above manipulating Dean to try and make him happy. But the bit that I loved the most was the driving lesson. You have a real gift for writing these little snippets of the boys lives to give a glimpse of what their upbringing was really like...Fantastic!

The whole first part of this chapter almost had me in tears...with Sammy on Dean's bed searching for some form of comfort...I'v seen kids do that, hell, I remember doing it myself. Such a powerful description. And that coupled with Beth back in the tunnel trying to do the same thing...beautifully written chapter and very emotional.

I don't agree...this isn't slow on action at all, the plot's bubbling under the surface and feels like it's gonna boil over any minute. And that whole deal with the blanket...that was just too beautiful. Fantastic glimpse into the kind of brother Dean really is...
Author's Response: It's always nerve wracking to do a story like this where the focus is on the brothers more than any one creature. This line blew me away... To say his father looked tired was the understatement of the year. Eyes that were once a clear and true brown were now hollowed out with fatigue and something darker. His eyes once so familiar to Dean had changed over the past eleven years. Now the darkness never left them, not even the sight of his children ever completely erased the shadows. What a spot on and poignant description of where John is right now...beautiful

Great update Kel! I'm always amazed with what kind of stories Dean and Sam come up to cover their actions. So John is an "investigator" and the boys helped him out before. I guess Caroline and Beth were in for a surprise when they realized just what the Winchesters are investigating. Can't wait to see how you bring this one home. Thanks!
