just re-read this little oneshot, as i remembered it was more or less related to 'Edge of Winter', as Dean mentioned the New Mexico hunt, and then it must be the phone call Caleb's refering at in 'Winter', where Sam talked about Jessica. Awesomely amazing universe...

Very nice. Really quite a heartwarming conversation. I could hear and picture the emotions and situation perfectly. Well done.

Cass This is a wonderful soul stealer of a one shot. it's never overly sentimental or mawkish, but it is very beutifully poignant. that Dean, who so wants Sam to come home, would pursuade him to stay is very typical of Dean's selfless devotion and it tugs at the heartstrings. Thanks for another great piece of writing bev x

A very touching story! It reminds me of the times my siblings went away to college and we felt lost without one another. But family is family and you never stay lost. Dean and Sam are learning that.

it's actually uncomfortable peering so much into Dean's mind. it's as if, after peeling all the layers, you see a core that is of such terrible beauty and sadness and all you want to do is to take all the pain away but you can't, so all you can do is to let him destroy himself bit by bit, and hopefully you can prevent him from losing it altogether. Great story. :)

That was such a wonderful insight into the workings of Dean and Sam's relationship. The emotions stirred in this scene were so true to character - of course Dean would fall on his sword, in his lifetime he has fallen on the whole damn armoury. You captured their non-verbal communication perfectly, less is more with them - "You still with me?" His brother asked him. Always. "Yeah, but it sounds like you need to go, dude." Even as he forced himself to say it, Dean's grip tightened on the phone" What can I say you simply nailed one of probably the most trying times in both their lives. Fantastic work.

Poor Dean! He always gives up what he really wants. I really enjoyed this. Even though the story line isn't canon, the characters are true to the ones we know -and it would be nice to think that when Sam left John he didn't completely leave Dean too.

Isn't it sad that I've read so many fics by now that I can't remember if I've ever read this before? They often run together, but I'm pretty sure that I never read this, because, the last few lines of this one really hit me. I'm not so sure they're true now, after DT and IMTOD, but in Season One, I could definitely see this being an honest sentiment and good insight. And I've so been where Sam is. All that struggle to get there only to find out it's a huge money hole filled with people who don't get what a privilege it is to be there. Sigh. Now you've made me homesick, wench! J/K. Now, the whole 'letting go' theme aside, I think that Dean should definitely go to Stanford and give Sam a hand. He's got that damned comb stuck in his hair again...
