Wow!!! That really touched me. You captured Dean perfectly. Why not write one about Sam?

I have to say it's a lucky day for me, somehow when this posted I must have missed it. I was actually going to check out your Sam's list recomendation when I came across it. Really beautiful and I like that style, makes it something really different an unique- Thanks for the read - K
Author's Response: Hey kwater! I didn't even know I had made Sam's list until I saw this review. *laugh* Thank you for taking the time to read and comments. This piece I was really nervous to put out there and have judged by other writers and readers. I am thrilled to know that people enjoy it. Turn Your Back was one of my first attempts at SN fanfic, and I know I grew a LOT while writing it and since writing it. That said, I hope you enjoy it when you get around to it. :) Take care. -SJ

This is a unique and fantastic piece of art! I love it! It's so expressive and almost poetic, but more. I love how you combine Dean's thoughts with lines from Supernatural together to paint vignettes and prove your title. The hopeful beginning and ending coupled with the sorrowful middle does even more to follow your title. Truly awesome!
Author's Response: Shannondoah! I am soooo sorry that I didn't respond sooner. I never got the alert...*Sad* But thank you so much for your kind words. This piece was an interesting one for me and I'm glad that you found it to be art. *blush* That is a very high compliment. Take care. -SJ

That was very powerful. I didn't see it posted until now or I would've already checked it out! I love the term "prosetry" to describe it. A Phoenix will rise again from the ashes! After all, it's Dean-friggin-Winchester we're talkin' about! Beautiful imagery, very well written. So glad I found it!
Author's Response: Thank you, Freyja! I'm glad you found this. And I agree, it is Dean-friggin-Winchester. He will keep taking hits and will keep comin' back. One of the reasons I love him so much. Thanks for the review. -SJ

Seriously, think you just broke my heart a little. I know a thing or two about personal turmoil and the writing that comes out of it but never have i been able to write anything as amazing as this. I'm an english major and have read a LOT of poetry but let me tell you this has got to be one of the most amazing poems I've ever read.
Author's Response: Magos, I'm beaming like an idiot over here. Thank you for saying all of that, and I'm glad this piece was something even an English major could enjoy. I was hoping the scattered nature of the poem wouldn't scare people away. Thanks again for dropping in. :)

WOW!!!! Good thing I'm no writer, becaue I couldn't begin to adequately describe the emotions that prose elicited in me....You are beyond gifted and not just in the lyrical way you write but the connection you have to your own feelings. I'm glad you have an avenue to release the pain that you might be experiencing in your life at this time, but in doing so you have shared a part of MY soul with me. Thank you for that, and for giving us all a way to look deep inside ourselves and what pulls us through life.....even if this one came from an imaginary source.
Author's Response: Thank you for such kind words. I'm glad you took the time to review, and not only that, but you also took the time to let me know this touched you. Hard to describe the joy that comes with knowing a part of you was recieved and shared with others. -SJ

Wow. The deep blackness of emotion I got from this is how it sometimes feels to be depressed. The pain, hope lost, hope found again - defining your life in moments and people - was all very real. I loved how you related it all to fire and mixed in the lines from the show as Dean evolves through the scenes. Dean is a phoenix. Great analogy.
I really liked it (felt it touch my own deep turmoil) and think you should be very proud of this. (((Hugs))) Nicole
Author's Response: Thank you, Nicole! I'm moved that it touched you and that you found this to be real. I appreciate you taking the time to leave me encouragement everywhere. That was very sweet of you. (((Hugs))) -SJ

Oh, SJ! I love this sooooo much! I cannot even begin to tell you. I love the style you wrote this in, your perspective of Dean and his emotions. I love him resembling a phoenix because it is so true--I can see that in Dean. This really touched me and you did such an incredible job with it. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. ~Steph
Author's Response: Hey Steph! Another familiar face! I love it! Thank you for taking the time to drop in and read. I'm glad that you could see all of this in Dean. I think that's what draws me to him...his ability to give, love, fight, sacrifice... -SJ

Sojourner, I'm not even sure I have adequate words to describe what I think about this piece. I could say it was heart wrenching and soul shattering....one of the most beautiful and poignant things I've ever read. But those words just don't seem to do it justice. Thank you for sharing this with us...I never cease to be amazed by your incredible talent!
Author's Response: Thank you very much, Phoenix_Song. I'm so glad you stick with me and take the time to review my work. It's always a joy to see a familiar face around here. Again, thank you for such a lovely review. -SJ

I'm not sure I can write a review that would do your 999 words justice.... such intense imagery....how can I choose favorites each time I settle on one..i see three others equally impressive ....i'm sorry you had to experience something similar to be able to express Dean's thoughts and feelings....but I want to thank you, SJ, for sharing them with us.........
Author's Response: Thank you, Jude, for taking the time to leave me such a nice review. My family recently was waiting with bated breath to see if my mom would come out of heart surgery okay. I think I ignored the fact that I was worried...kept playing it off that I was okay. I had an idea to write a one-shot like this a while back, but could never really give it life. It wasn't until I asked myself if I really was alight that this all came out. I got to see my mother today, smiling despite her fresh scars... she's the real Phoenix. I can only hope to be half the woman she is. Now, I'm sure this is more than you wanted to know *laugh* Guess I was just saying thank you. :) -SJ

Only in my daydreams could I write something with this much imagry, subtle layering, meaning, and purpose. The first time I read it, I ached for Dean. The second time, I ached for you. Pain, loss, confusion, pride, perseverance, hope, joy... each emotion drips from these words like tears. The character study that you've taken on here is phenominal -- with words that just seemed to have punched out of you. Some that hit me: >>He was just a boy: Freckled nose, chubby hands, inquisitive green eyes. Until he was reborn of fire: Blood flecked cheeks, fingers dexterous with the trigger, eyes full of pain. His eyes are amazing -- how they capture his emotion, bottle it, and then hide it away all in the space of a breath. This tells *why*. >>No matter how hollow. No matter how lifeless. No matter how cold. Each breath came as a reminder of how alive he was. And he spent a good portion of Season 2 hating that fact. *whimper* >>Dean was only alive… When Sam was by his side. And Gaelic has chills... >>It didn’t matter that he knew the next flames he’d face, he wouldn’t return from. It didn’t matter that there would be no light after the dark when Hades opened and swallowed him. It didn’t matter because from his life came one that had meaning. Guh, Dean. Lump in throat. Thank so much for sharing this piece of you.
Author's Response: Thank you so much for taking the time to review. I also need to thank you for just…listening. Sometimes it feels like you're standing in the middle of a crowded room and screaming for someone to just stop and listen...I know this has nothing to do with Dean...but you know very well the reasons why we both resonate with his complexity. Especially during this time while I was waiting, holding my breath and just praying, that the ones I love and I would be there at the end of everything...that we'd all be standing at the other side of this obstacle. And if we weren't...then I was hoping I'd have the strength to rise above that. Thank you for adding to that strength. -SJ
