A great story.  I'd love to hear Dean stand up for himself this wey.  I think a more realistic view of their relationship would serve both bothers well.  I liked the way you had Dean realize how much stronger his time in Purgatory made him.  I do think he could let Sam go back to his normal life now.  And when Sam needs his brother's help again I know Dean would be there for him, no matter what kind of mess Sam got himself into.  That's the kind of man he is.  You captured their history well.
