Thank you sooooooo much for Brothers!

It's so right, so romantically! And JRR Tolkien here is just what the doctor ordered)) The final of your story is brilliant.

Great story so far, I can't resist a broken Dean and Sam taking care of him. I can't wait for more.

Now that I did not expect, the sacrifice of Sam's hand. Good twist, onto the next chapter... :)

Hmmm Well. I like the premise. More meat is needed i think. More info on what happened to Castiel. Disappearing into a poof of white light is...lacking. Did he do it himself? How did it happen? Etc.

Author's Response: Dean doesn't know what happened to Cas. All he knows is what he saw, and since that section is Dean's POV, there's really no way for the reader to know what happened yet, either. The story's not over yet.

Sarah

Hands down- this is my FAVORITE Purgatory story not to mention chapter ( thus far at least lol). As I mentioned, the finale completely left me hungry for more in a way the show hasn't in the past few seasons. I REALLY love imagining how it would be like for Dean unde those conditions and I think you've just hit it DEAD ON with the first part here.  I know you're busy writing this, but I'd love to see you take a crack at the challenge if you were so inclined.

I'm also loving the brotherly connection here as well. I think you've so perfectly captured that in a way we just haven't seen for a couple of seasons. The amulet playing in so well as a method to help Sam ground Desn in reality.

The realism of this story really captivates me... It's not just H/c for the sake of drawing in readers and reviews, but true hurt and comfort as one would expect and something I regret that we likely won't see when the show returns.

Well done yet again!!!!

Author's Response:

Thank you so much for the compliments. :) I'm really glad you're enjoying it as much as I am. The brotherly connection is definitely what makes this show, and I'm having a lot of fun writing that, and trying to write it in a way that seems genuine to how Sam and Dean would act. I agree that the brotherly bond has been lacking a bit in the past few seasons.

Thanks again for reading!

I'm really enjoying this story. I'm glad that you let Sam be the one to get Dean out of Purgatory(fingers crossed that the writers feel that way too). And the trauma of Purgatory and its affects on Dean were heartbreaking and believable. So glad to see the amulet and that Dean still feels that emotional tie to it(and Sam, too). So loved his reaction to the Impala. Of course it would be the one thing monsters can taint in his mind. Poor Sammy..that's another story. I've no doubt he will when Dean's trust back..but my heart breaks for him.

Can't wait for your next chapter..soon I hope!!
Take care,
Jane

Author's Response:

I reeeeeally hope that Sam is the one to save Dean. Cas saved Dean from Hell, Crowley saved Sam from Hell. I think it's about time the brothers saved each other. :) I really hope they can make that work somehow.

I'm glad you like it, thanks for reviewing! :)

Great job at capturing Dean's post-Purgatory behavior- so easy to just have him pop back into being "Dean" again- but not nearly as realistic.

Just wanted to also give you props for inspiring the current hellatus writing challenge for the site. I love the premise for your story- so I used just a tiny prompt from yours to hopefully inspire others to write. Thanks so much and thanks more for your story and posting here!

I'm really looking forward to the next chapters.

I love this story.  How great would it be to have the amulet back in play somehow!

Author's Response:

I want the amulet back on the show so bad. I really feel like Sam picked up that amulet before he left. In my head, he's been carrying it with him in one way or another since Dean let it go.

Thanks for reading! :)

What a great chapter! I like the details you included- the time reference- that like Hell- time might move differently in Purgatory. So while it hadnt been but a few days for Sam, it had obviously been MUCH longer for Dean.

I loved also the image of shell-shock Dean as well... can only imagine how he might react after having to survive alone and then Sam just appearing. I wouldnt have thought that he just considered Sam another monster (shapeshifter) just trying to trick him. That was cool!

But the tenderness of the brother's relationship... Sam's love and patience breaking through- especially the amulet... what a touching scene...

Can't wait to see whats in store next- and honestly- it would kinda be cool if the show did allow Sam to rescue Dean instead of some other mystical way... No offense to the Cas fans- but I'd rather see it be either Sam that saves him or Dean that saves himself..

Well done again!

Author's Response:

Honestly the first thing I thought about Dean finding in Purgatory was the shifters. I figure he's bound to run into a few pissed off shifters there, and they always seem to delight more in torturing people emotionally rather than physically, always coming at people in the guise of who can hurt them the most. And for Dean, the obvious answer is Sam. Those boys are both each other's biggest weakness and biggest strength.

The amulet was actually what brought all my little ideas for this story together. I have a feeling Sam really did go back for the amulet, and that even though Dean got rid of it, a part of him will always associate that with Sam and the good parts of his life that he's shared with his brother. This is going to be my head canon until next season, because I just think it works.

And I agree that it would be really nice to see Sam rescue Dean. Even if he doesn't necessarily go into Purgatory to get him (although that would be EPIC). I  just don't want Dean to pop up on Sam's doorstep. That's how Sam and Dean both got out of Hell, just POOF, somebody else pulled them out. I really want to see SAM save Dean.

Like most everyone in the fandom, I cant wait to see how Dean gets out of Purgatory next Season... but I'm loving your take on what happened after the end of the finale. The agony on Sam's face when everything sunk in... Dean gone (again)... him left alone (again) and even so much more this time what with Bobby gone and seeming Cas too.

I love the fear and tension and hopeless you've created in just two chapters. And I really love that Sam is still strong and determined.

I didnt expect Jody or the amulet to make an appearance- but have to say they are both welcome sights... kinda like nice comforting security blankets.

I'm absolutely intrigued to know who came to Sam in his dream to give him the 'key' to rescuing Dean in Purgatory... just hoping its not a trap... and of course- I cant wait to see the RESCUE!

Well done!

Author's Response:

I'm not entirely sure I'll ever really address who came to Sam in his dream. Let's just say Sam will never find out for sure, but he's got an idea, and I know who it was. I'm just not sure it will come up again in the story.

Sam had to go to Jody. I loved her on the show, and I want to see more of her. I really like when she helped Sam with saving Dean from the past: I thought they developed a good relationship there. And I know she and Sam must have gotten closer after Bobby died. It just felt really right to me. I also like how Sam was the one to get close to her. I feel like Dean got closer to Bobby than Sam ever did (Bobby was Dean's father figure, but Sam didn't need Bobby as much because he's always had Dean for a father figure). So I like how Sam was able to get close to a parent figure for a change.
