Very good, read it a few times to get the meaning right, and I am guessing it is the moment Dean sets off to find Sam just before the series starts...

Okay, I debated on whether I should review this here since I'll be judging it on SSA but reviewing gives nothing away, IMO. I thought this was a very good first effort, Terri. I'm sure Dean felt exactly what you described as he headed to Palo Alto. And I was surprised and delighted to see your entry in the contest. :)

I think you perfectly captured Dean's ambivalence toward meeting up with Sam again. He longed for the warmth and closeness and yet he feared the distance and coldness. He put on a brave face, but it was heartbreaking when Sam insisted on going back to be there for his interview.
I think Dean wanted to ask him not to, instead he played it cool, like he was fine with traveling that road alone. Sadly, Jessica's death gave him what he wanted.

I do believe you've gotten Dean's probable thoughts just before he went to get Sam. He would have felt trepidation before he went to Sam, not knowing what to expect. And in the pilot Sam was kinda cold towards Dean at first. Thanks for the great little one shot and hope to see more from you!
