Great start Native Star, you describe the overwhelming nature of the Winchester's current predicament really well. It warmed my heart that Sam had already started to research a way to get Dean out of the deal, and I liked this line:
The thought crossed Sam’s mind that, while they may have won a twenty three-year-old battle, it hadn’t come without a price.
Too true.
