Hello? Is anybody out there? Hello?
Reviewer: mizpah (Signed) · Date: 24/07/11 10:52 PM · On: Chapter 13
Hey, hun. Yeah, know what you mean. Writing hasn't come easy for this little black duck lately either. Hopefully for both of us, things will calm down soon and we'll be back in the groove again. This chapter scratched a number of itches for me - the biggest being the fact that those two clowns managed to sneak up on not only two very experienced hunters, but two hunters who were on the run from heaven, hell and crazy humans bearing grudges. So no way should they have been able to get the drop on the boys like they did. I get the alcohol bit, but hell's bells, that was way too sloppy. Even plastered, one of them should have woken up at the first stealthy rattle of the door. So thank you for this - I'm happy now that such a glaring oops has been explained in a very satisfactory manner. And it does tie in very neatly with Zachariah manipulating them in heaven. And that was another itch - the memories that they were made to walk through, and the effect they had on Dean. I just can't see the night that Sam left in tears and rage for Stanford after the argument with his father and being effectively kicked out, being a happy memory for him, and a place he'd like to stay in for eternity, or even part thereof. I have always felt the whole thing was geared to drive a wedge between the boys. Bardicvoice had a different take on it - that it was meant to be a lesson to Sam, for him to see things from Dean's side for a change. And we all know how well Zachariah's last 'lesson' went - instead of saying yes, Dean called his brother and got the band back together. But I can't see him giving Sam that lesson - especially given the fact that he felt all Sam was good for was being Lucifer's prom dress. The nuclear warhead had been exploded, so let's shove the shell casing aside for Lucifer to use. Anyway, that's just my opinion. Still have to confess at being saddened by the loss of adult Sammy, even though this outcome was the only way to save his life. And I find baby Sammy so adorable, which makes the sadness a little more poignant. All his feelings and responses are there, especially in the way he acts with his father/brother, and it must still wrench at Dean's heart to look into those eyes and see his Sam. But Bobby's right - Dean was more of an active parent in Sam's previous life than John was. This time out, he's an adult and not a four-year-old missing his mother, and better able to cope with the task. Still.....Sammy....*sniffle* I find myself loving the story and being torn at the same time, wishing there was some way for adult Sam to come back, while adoring baby Sammy and eagerly anticipating his growth. *sigh*....how do you do that? hugs Jules
Author's Response: I'm still not getting anywhere with this story. Not giving up on it, just taking a break until I get inspired. I'm glad I could scratch your itches, the idea came out of the conversation some of you had on SH. It bothered me too, so I fixed it in a way that made sense to me. I always felt the angels were trying to separate the boys in any way possible so Dean would say yes. I know there are a lot of people that are disappointed that Sammy is never going to turn back into Sam in this story and I'm really struggling with this. Someone went so far as to say I killed Sam and should have put a death warning on the story. I'm glad you like Baby Sammy and his brother/daddy. Hope you will continue to like it, whenever I get back writing it. Hugs, Vonnie

Evil cliffie! *frowns* So sorry I've been missing in action again. *hangs head*.. Things have been...well...yeah... Loved Bobby being the doting grandfather and buying clothes for baby Sammy, especially the little set of overalls with Grandpa's Boy on it. And the poor man got a girl's playsuit by mistake! I'm with Bobby - what is it with making girls' clothes brown and blue?? But I have to confess to a bittersweet moment, thinking about adult Sam lost forever, despite the sheer adorability of baby Sammy. And that little impromptu shower - *snicker*...baby boys...*rolls eyes* Even Cas is affected by baby Sammy's undeniable charm, getting all angel-clucky (must be the feathers...) and quickly scooping the bub off the floor when he realised his sudden appearance had startled the little mite and made him hurt himself. Loved the little gesture of Cas pushing Sammy's curls off his forehead. Evil cliffie! Oh, and did I see right? Did Sammy say Dada? Yes, all right, there were about a dozen more syllables, but still.....dadada - sounds like his attempt to say Dada to me. Any cake left? Jules
Author's Response: Don't worry, I know how things have been and it's okay. I'm just happy you like this chapter. The idea for the blue and brown sleeper came from going shopping with Shelby and seeing one. I initially thought it was for a boy until I looked closer. And the impromptu shower...well, couldn't resist. As for Cas, I love the guy the way he used to be and I just thought even he couldn't resist Baby Sammy. And yes, I did the dadadada on purpose. It's a little early to say Dada, but he can start getting there. Sorry no cake left, at least not chocolate, but there should be some of the carrot cake with cream cheese frosting I baked on the weekend. Hugs, Vonnie

*pounces on chapter* *hoovers it all up in double-quick time* *giggles uncontrollably at peeing mishap* *bangs head on desk over evil cliffhanger* *runs off to formulate much better review* *runs back briefly to wave hand at offer of cake - hoping it's chocolate*
Author's Response: Okay, so now I don't know who giggled more - you at the peeing mishap or me at your review? Thank you so much, it sure made my day. As for the cake, Shelby prefers white cake, sorry! Hugs, Vonnie

YAY, an update! And a good one at that. I love how you've written Castiel here and I hope our angel returns. But it was evil of you to leave another cliffie. :-)
Author's Response: Thanks, glad you like Castiel the way I see him. I hope the will be back like this in the show eventually. Evil? Not really, it isn't much of a cliffie, is it?

Happy birthday, Shelby! Hope you got at least a couple of things on your wish list. Sorry I can't help you out with the sanity, I've been asking for that myself of late, and still have not been supplied...*wistful sigh*...but as soon as I find some, I'll split it with you. Okay, onto the review, which will be a bit staccato as I'm typing as I read each bit. Well....the storms are getting closer, and Sammy's feeling the tension it seems. Have to admit I had tears in my eyes when Sammy pulled at Dean's shirt and did the whole silent communication thing. And I'll be very interested in what Cas has to say as well, when Bobby gets to ask him about souls and brotherly bonds. The bit with the crows was downright creepy. Obviously agents of whatever's coming keeping watch over the house. Not good - and really not good that Sammy can sense it, too. Can't help wondering whether Bobby's right about the panic room, and Dean's just put his brother/son in danger by staying upstairs. And now they're isolated, and unable to call for help. Let's hope that protection rite is all it's cracked up to be.... And not one but three demons - well, the Winchesters never do anything by halves, do they? Thank heavens for Cas, and how sweet was it that Sammy could see the angel's true form? Thank heavens also that Dean and Bobby didn't have to resort to killing the little one in order to keep the demons from turning him again. Cas really cut it fine there at the end. But how gorgeous - in the midst of all the drama, Sammy takes his first steps!! Could just imagine that squeal of delight as he waved the toy up and down at the end of it. Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww....... Hope the graduation was awesome. Jules
Author's Response: Shelby's birthday is next week Wednesday. She thanks you for being willing to split any sanity you'll find with her. Love your review, it's great to see your thoughts as you read it. I really love that the creepiness of the crows came through, I love those birds, but they have a bad rep and are always used in creepy settings. Funny thing is, even before I exactly knew how this chapter will go, I already knew that it would end with Sammy walking. I just wanted to make this a highlight that shows the evil is really gone. Thanks so much for being such a wonderful friend. Hope you have a great day! Hugs, Vonnie

I knew it wouldn't be that easy....even reborn, Sammy is still in danger. And I think the little tyke is right - I'd trust Cas' hunch. Well, 'your' Cas. Not sure after what I've heard about the finale whether I'd trust canon Cas at the moment. Bad, bad angel. Needs to be sent to the naughty corner for a millenia or two. Just can't get over how much I love the image of baby Sammy cradled in his brother/father's arms. And what a great dad Dean is. But I have a feeling that he's going to be sorely tested over the next forty-eight hours or so - as a wise old hunter once said: something's coming, and those boys are right in the middle of it....again. Oh, Sammy..... So sorry for this being late, hun. Real life...*pulls bitchface*.... Jules
Author's Response: Again, don't worry about being late, I know what's going on and I'm way to happy to hear from you to worry about that I had to wait a little bit. You always make my day with your reviews. Love you my friend. Hugs, Vonnie

Although I really really hate Castiel, but I think I kinda like him in this story. Aww, little Sammy, he can see the real angel! That's superb! He's really a special one, always has been though. :) Love this part and love Dean's fatherly attitude. Awesome chapter. Love it. Hugs, Bon :)))
Author's Response: Thanks Bon, you are always so sweet. I'm glad you like 'my' Castiel. I'm even more happy you like this chapter and the whole story. Hugs, Vonnie

It bites when real life has the audacity to intrude upon our fandom! I hate that ! LOL Congratulations to your son also. Looking forward to the next chapter.
Author's Response: Thanks, it doesn't look like it's going to settle down any time soon either. With vacation and everything there will be more than enough to do for me. I will continue to write, I promise. Hugs, Vonnie

I read it as soon I got the alert. Awesome chapter, but Imma little scared for Sam. Do you think some demon like Azazel might come after little Sammy again? Poor baby but at least this time Dean and Bobby know how to protect the baby. And I love the part when Dean missed Sammy and told Bobby, "Haven't seen him all the day". Awww...and baby Sam was waiting for his papa.....how cute!! Love this chapter, truly heartwarming story. I love a baby Sammy. I was very upset when in the last episode Dean told castiel that you are like a brother to me. How could he say that! How could he?? But after reading your story, I'm feeling much better. Love you, Bon :))
Author's Response: Love you and thanks Bon, It will be a little bit angsty in the next chapter. I'm glad you feel better now. I was a little bit shocked too, because I expected more something like Dean saying Cas was his friend, but I think for effect it was necessary to show how close he really feels to Cas. Doesn't mean it's anything like how close he feels to Sammy. Remember, Sam is more than a brother to Dean, they have a connection that I never can describe adequately. Hugs, Didi

Still a great story and I'm looking forward to where you're going to take this. I have to admit to being nervous when you didn't post for awhile. I've been burned before, getting interested in a story, only to have the author abandon it. So not nice. I'm eager to read more so please post again soon. :-)
Author's Response: Thank you so much. I am not planning to abandon this story. My life is very hectic at times and I work long hours, so sometimes I just don't get to writing a lot. I promise I will continue to post and hope this will give you a little peace of mind! Hugs, Vonnie

Thank God, Sam's fever's gone down, and he's kicking nope..slapping again. Loveliest baby ever. And, no... nothing wuld ever take Dean life away from Sammy; Sammy is his and will be forever. YES!!!! NEW CHAPTER!!!!! *bounces all over the office before settling down to read* What a lovely lunchtime surprise. I've been checking every day this week to see if you updated - lol. I think I've become a stalker...*looks worried*... Wonder if Dr Runez may eventually get the whole amazing story - or a part of it. It is sweet how she has taken to the little family, and I can see many more home visits on the horizon. Ah, Sammy, strong-willed even back then. But I think Bobby's right - I think reincarnated Sammy won't have the same relationship with his brother/father as he did with John. He'd always been so much closer to Dean, and now that Dean has been given the opportunity to freely express how much he loves his brother, that bond will only be cemented more firmly, I feel. Loved the visual of Bobby playing on the floor with Sammy, and the look of wonder in baby Sammy's eyes when he started patting Bobby's beard and hearing him laugh. Seriously awwww moments in there. hugs you, hugs chapter Jules oh, and yeah.....still no internet at home....*heavy sigh*...
Author's Response: You really made my day by telling me you've been waiting for this all week. I'm just sorry to hear about your internet connection. Hope you're doing alright otherwise. I think Dr. Runez is a keeper and I'm thinking she might find out the truth eventually, but I'm not sure yet. I had fun writing Bobby playing on the floor with Sammy, so I'm thrilled you like this part, especially Sammy patting his beard, I couldn't get rid of that picture in my mind. Hope you have a great Easter, in case your net won't be back before that. Hugs, Vonnie

Am also wondering....how old is Sammy now? Wondering if, on his six month birthday, Dean and Bobby are going to stay up all night with every weapon and ward at their disposal, keeping an eye on Sammy and making sure nothing, not even a mosquito, gets in. Just in case.... And ooh, I was the first to review! *bounces happily*...there are advantages to being a few hours ahead in time - ROFL! Ju
Author's Response: Sammy is still four month old. So there is a little time left yet, but you could be right. I'm glad you enjoying being the first reviewer. I love to see you happy, even if it's just for a moment over reviewing first. Love you girl! Hugs, Vonnie

That's all right, hun - and that's why I only update once a week. Real life is just way too busy. And just as an aside....I am SO glad the new job has worked out so well for you. Answered prayer. Love Doctor Runez even more now. She really has been sucked in by those eyes, hasn't she - both sets, Dean's and Sammy's. And loved the introspection from her regarding both the giving out of her home phone number and her speculation about Bobby. I'm thrilled that she is seeing the other side of him - the side that we know and love. The surrogate father/grandfather. I think you mentioned to me once that you felt like Bobby had been waiting in the wings as it were, to take over as the boys' substitute father after John died. Not that he wanted John to die, but he quite easily slipped into that role once the Winchester patriarch met his death at the hands of Azazel. And we're seeing that here in spades. Bobby's not only freely offered himself as a father to Dean, but as a grandfather to Sammy, with all those two roles entail. I had quite a few aww moments, some ouch moments, and burst out laughing (startling the cat, I might add) at least once. That was when Sammy blew through two fresh nappies in rapid succession. I couldn't help myself when he wet the first one and pooped in the second one - I just had to chuckle. But I did feel for the poor mite with those ear infections. That can't be making him feel very good at all. No wonder he is fussy and screaming, poor babe. At least the bath helped settle him and bring that dimpled smile back to his tiny face. I'm really thinking though, that he can understand every word Dean says to him, or he can sense it on a very deep level just what his father/brother means. Or is thinking... Sam always could read Dean like a book - why should baby Sammy be any different? He is after all an old soul in a new body. And soul to soul, those two were always deeply connected. Not even death could separate them. Not for long. Hopefully the infection will begin to clear up by morning, and Sammy's fever will be down. Oh, and note to the editor....zombie pirates? Will they look like Jack Sparrow? If they do, and the Winchesters have to come in and hunt them down, then I'm in! LOL! Jules
Author's Response: You know you make me smile with your comments. Just love to read them. You are right, I always felt like Bobby wanted and needed to be the dad the boys so desperately needed. I love John, but somehow Bobby seems to appreciate this role so much more. Maybe because he never got the change to be a dad with his wife and now he chose it. I do believe the connection between the two brothers can't be broken no matter what happens.
I could tell you stories about Shelby and ear infections and dirtied diapers from both kids. But I guess I'm already doing it, only now they are wearing Sammy's face. I love your comment on the editor, I'm so proud of her. Shelby is your typical moody, bitchy teenager, but she is also this incredibly mature and loving girl. And so is Sean, only not bitchy or a girl. I'll ask her what the zombie pirates look like and let you know. Hugs, Vonnie

Ah, they curtailed little Sammy's fun! Poor kiddo can't get up to half the mischief he probably had already planned - lol. Could picture both Dean and Bobby fussing and worrying over the poor little mite when they found out part of Sammy's fussiness was coming from a fever. Thank heavens the clinic was still open to receive their phone call. And I like Dr Runez even more now, since she's prepared to do a home visit for the new father and his brother/son. Still wonder whether Sammy's teething, though. But he hasn't been dribbling, so I'm not sure...still, the way he seemed to settle a bit when he stuck a thumb in his mouth....could be cutting his teeth. If so, Dean better get used to walking the floor with him, because he's in for a bumpy ride, especially if Sammy cuts his teeth on the cross like one of my sisters did. Yikes! Screams and temperatures were the norm for weeks in our house. Have to say that I also loved Bobby's quick introspection when Sammy was screaming - that quick flash of thinking things were more peaceful when he was alone, then quickly realising that even though he was getting distressed himself over their failure to settle their new infant, he honestly wouldn't have it any other way than what is happening now. Loved the bare-bones assessment. Oh, gosh, I can't wait to see what happens when Sammy takes his first steps - and I bet they'll be straight to Dean, just like I suspect they were the first time around. hugs you hugs chapter hugs Shelby - and snatches away a bit of guacamole Jules
Author's Response: You know you are just so incredibly sweet. I was happy with the first review, especially knowing your hands were hurting, but now you give me a second one. I can tell you that it's not teething, but it's something that is relieved just a bit by the sucking on a finger and swallowing that follows. But you are right, he is going to be a handful and I have no doubt his first steps will be towards Dean. About Bobby, I figure that occasionally he would have doubts, but given that he now is really part of the family and part of raising Sammy, it would only be natural for him to feel that it's worth it. Kinda like any new parent occasionally thinks about how much easier it was before. Oh, teething is will happen soon too. Hugs, Vonnie
