Hey BJ,

Insightful as always, BJ. I think I'll go back and look again at those episodes as you have re-energised me for that plot line.

Love bev x

Author's Response:

Hey, Bev!

Yes, I loved how the season ended, but I know many didn't.  This episode just didn't resonate with me the first few times I watched it.  I do really believe you need to watch an entire arc or season to get all the nuance and the truths that are there, you just can't see them at times.

Looking back now, having the time to really ponder how it all came to pass, I do think it was the weight of everything coming down on Dean that made him lose hope and then when he actually succeeded in killing the whore, that pushed him over into believing it was his destiny and that they were truly out of time.

I never could understand how they could be so sure of their course, but then that's what we love about the Winchesters.  They stick to their guns and they always seem to intrinsically know what the right thing to do is.  Especially Dean, so it was heartbreaking to see him so lost and floundering to do right.

All in all, I love how it all tied together and how for me, it totally worked.

Thanks, good to hear from you! - B.J.

I enjoyed your story.  It was an interesting take on why Dean was able to kill her.  I had wondered if it was because he had promised to serve God and his angels at the end of season 4, but I like your take on it.

Author's Response:

Thanks, I like my take too.  It took me awhile to come to this theory, I too wondered when the episode first aired.  And I wondered 'when' Dean made the decision to say "yes", was it before or after he killed the whore?

I hope someday we get an answer from the writers because I can see it going either way.  I guess I just like this version where he doesn't give up or give in, he just comes to accept the reality of who he is and what he must do.

They certainly gave him plenty of reasons to say yes and it was only their brotherly bond that made him ultimately hold the line.

Thanks for the comments, B.J.
