Hi Jules,

I just re-read this, looking for something light before watching whatever's revealed in the midseason return ep tonight. You do a great job of capturing the feel of the season that you place your stories in, and this one has a season four vibe. Concussed Sam had a runaway mouth, didn't he? I wonder what he would have done if Cass had actually shown him his wings? Probably fainted--or yelped even louder than he did when he woke up with Cass leaning over him. Dean was occasionally exasperated with Sam, but still looking after him. I get the feeling that Dean would've been less longsuffering and more sympathetic to Sam's concussion if this was a first or second season story, more evidence of the cracks in their relationship at this time.

Trying to keep my resolution to review more often!

Sue

Author's Response:

Hi, Sue,

Thank you! I'm thrilled that you've come back to visit a story you've already read.

I'm relieved that I've captured the mood of the boys. When I set a story, as in the timeline, I always try to watch the episodes on either side of that timeframe so I can get into their heads at that point in their lives. Because they both have changed so much over the past seven years - to compare the boys in the pilot to the men they are now - well, it's almost like two different people inhabiting the same skin.

And yes, Dean would have had way more patience if it had been earlier, and not during that terrible time when they didn't trust each other, and the secrets just kept piling up between them.

Thanks so much, not just for re-reading but for letting me know your thoughts. Hope your holiday is going well. Any snow where you are? We're about to have the hottest day so far this summer - tomorrow's predicted temperature is going to be 36 degrees C. Yuck....lucky I work in an air-conditioned building, that's all I can say.

It took me forever to read this because I was laughing so hard!  It was great!

Author's Response:

Awww.....thank you so much, Marcia.

And welcome to Supernaturalville, known to its members as UnGen.

I like doing the humour stories - it breaks up the angst a little bit. And both boys have such wonderful senses of humour, so it's nice to trot that out occasionally.

And poor Sammy - there is so much comedic potential there after some good old-fashioned whumpage - lol.

Thanks so much for reading - I'm thrilled that I could give you such a laugh for the day.

Wonderful Story!  As Always!  Concussed Sam reveals so much of the inner person and nicely illuminates Dean too.  So glad when I see your words and Chasidern's wonderful banners to start my day. Though in fact I go back and read all your stories many many times over.   I keep you and all of Queeensland in my prayers.      Jo

Author's Response:

Hi, Jo,

Prayers are always appreciated. While Chris and I weren't directly affected by floodwaters, apart from being cut off a couple of times during the week, we still feel the impact of the devastation. And it's going to take a long time to recover from this.

Thank you so much. I'm really stoked that you loved the story. I had such fun with concussed Sam, as well as Dean's cautious reactions and hasty damage control. The humour stories are a nice break from the usual angst and drama.

hugs

Another great story Jules.  I just love me some concussed Sammy.  You did it wonderfully well!!  Denise

Author's Response:

Hey, Denise!

So thrilled you loved poor concussed Sammy and his cracked skull - LOL. But he was adorable, and so fun to write. And the added bonus was that I got to mess with Dean's head at the same time. I'm just evil that way...*grins wickedly*

Thanks hun!

I adored this story sweetie- you do humor so well.  It made for a nice snow day read and I've been reccing it all over the place. :)

Author's Response:

Thanks, Claudia,

I love writing the humour, actually. I get a kick out of it - and let's face it, we all need a laugh every now and then. And the boys have such wonderful senses of humour that it's great to tap into that on occasion and get away from the angst.

Snow day read, eh? We will gladly swap you the snow for the floods we've had. It's all drying up now, slowly, but what a mess it's left behind. Oh, hun, thanks so much for the rec's. I really appreciate it.

Really glad you enjoyed this.

Cute fic, Jules.  Concussed Sam is like a little kid.....a gigantic little kid.

Author's Response:

A very, very big little kid - lol. Yes, he's rather cute, isn't he? But I'm not sure who had the bigger headache in the end - Sam or Dean.

Big brother had his work cut out for him this time - lol.

Thanks so much, hun. Glad you enjoyed it.

Loved this one Jules..and another one coming up Friday. Gives me something to look forward to.
All I can say is Sam's funny when he's concussed...and I can see him just this way. Once again you nailed the characters..especially Cas. Great job. Can't wait till Friday.

Take care,
Jane

Author's Response:

Hi, Jane,

Well, didn't make Friday, but you girls know the reason why. This Friday, though, I should be fine, as long as Cyclone Zelia doesn't change course and start heading for us instead of Norfolk Island. Then things could get very ugly around here.

So glad you liked concussed Sam - he's a hoot, isn't he? Poor Sammy....and poor Dean, trying to do damage control after Sam spilling his guts - literally and figuratively - LOL.

The next one is a bit angsty, so I had to throw in a lighter one first.

Awww... concussed Sam is so adorable and funny as hell, lol. No wonder Dean got a big headache. I laughed and smiled a lot while reading your story Jules, thank you for that, nice work.

Author's Response:

Hey, hun!

He is a riot, isn't he? Oh, my gosh, no brakes on that runaway mouth of his, and the puppy eyes in full force at the same time - lol. What a combination.

I'm betting that Dean hogs those painkillers now that Sam doesn't need them any longer - LOL.

Thanks hun, so glad you enjoyed it.

Adorable and cute and funny and a joy to read!

Thank you always for sharing with us your unique and fun stories.

And to Ziggy and Chris such amazing teamwork!

Author's Response:

Thanks so much, Karen.

I haven't forgotten your story - the muse has fled for higher ground during all the floods we've had over the last few weeks. But the water is dropping, so hopefully she'll be back soon.

Thanks for letting me know what you thought - I'm really pleased you loved it.

Yes, I know I have already reviewed but just had to say how much I loved this bit, it was inspired

"And why wouldn't it be a gangbusters idea to tell a doctor - a civilian - the real story?"

Sam's brow furrowed in thought. "Um - because - he wouldn't believe me?"

"And?" Dean prompted. "What's the golden rule?"

"We do what we do, and we shut up about it," the younger Winchester recited from memory.

"Right. That's good, Sam."

"Unless we fall in love with a pretty girl called Cassie, then it's okay to tell," Sam went on, blinking owlishly at his brother's fuzzy form.

Absolute perfection! :)

Sarah

Author's Response:

So chuffed that you liked my nod back to Route 666, sis.

Poor Sam! LOL!

Adored this story sis, just love concussed Sam and Dean just about managing to keep his sanity whilst dealing with him!

Loved the contrast of concussed Sam compared with the uber hunter of Season 4 that Dean came back from hell to.  And loved too how it didn't take long for Dean to find it trying, dealing with his concussed brother and his unpredictable mouth, both with his words and his puking!

So believable, I could imagine it playing out in my head as I read - it would be awesome if the show would give us this sometimes!

The ending to this fic was perfect, Cass arriving and wanting their help only to be totally nonplussed by Sam and his odd behaviour!  You couldn't have written it better, having Cass 'heal' Sam so they could get back on the road and go to Green River.

The dialogue was perfect throughout this fic, you had them spot on.  And the scene at the clinic was awesome.

A great start to the New Year sis, hope it's a great one for you.

Sarah

Author's Response:

Hey, sis,

I did like creating concussed Sam's dialogue and seeing just how far up the wall he could drive Dean with that runaway mouth of his - LOL.

Whew, this one was - well, not a hard one to finish, more like an unexpected one. I wasn't actually planning on working on it, then one day on the holidays I just opened it up on the spur of the moment and started hammering away at my poor abused keyboard. Chris hates my keyboard - I've managed to wear off the letters from about five or six keys by now - lol.

Thanks for your help as always sis, in picking up my oopses and helping to make this flow.

I don't know what to say, except maybe I laughed my butt off. This was extremely funny. Well not in the beginning, when poor Sam got his head beat against the grave marker, but after that it was pure joy. His brain certainly functioned, only on a different level. The smartness that came out, when he talked about what kind of injury his head might have gotten because of getting beat against the marker was completely overruled by his worry over his brain leaking out, because he was taking things to literally. The clinic, well he showed the doc how bad a concussion can really be, it was too funny.  And then splurting out at Cas what Dean thought about angels, it sounds like being concussed is like getting a truth serum for Sam.

In all this Dean was certainly very patient, although it was very clear that he didn't really feel like it. Some of the tragedy of Season 4 came out, when Dean thought about how he disliked the independent uberhunter Sam had become and yet, when Sam was injured and needed him, he didn't like it either. That;s what I love about you that even in those light stories you never completely go away from the seriousness of the show. It's very much how some the shows best funny epis have been.  Oh, and one more thing. I loved Dean using the sreaming thing against Sam and then giving him a suggestive answer on top of it. It's so like Dean. I love that about him.

Now I can't wait until next week and see what you are up to next. Hugs, Vonnie

Author's Response:

Hi, hun,

Sorry I'm late, but things have been a bit nuts around here lately as you know.

Well, I'm really glad I could give you a laugh. I had fun with concussed!Sammy - thrilled that you did too.

So chuffed that you loved the scene in the clinic with the poor old doc. And yes, season four saw the brothers really at odds with each other, and the fracturing of their seemingly unbreakable bond. The love was there, but the respect, patience and trust was slowly being eroded away.

Having said that, I needed a lighter moment amongst all the angst. Thanks hun.

Author's Response:

Hi, Kiara,

At least you've got snow and not lots and lots of water.

Thanks for that - really stoked that you're enjoying it, and only a third of the way in. I bashed Dean last story, back to Sam in this one - lol.

Hope your day improved.

Ahhhhhhh.. totally my fav kind of story. I like it from the top to bottom!! What a sweet image of my Sam.... awwww .... adowable!!!! Sammy got a concussion and he's afraid that his brain's going to leak out of his ears :P lol. Awesome!!! And I like the puking part. You know, me and one of my friends were reading it together and laughing our hearts out. And I predicted before I got to read that part... Sam will never get into a smelly car. lol. I like Dean, he's a great big bro. I can't imagine he's cleaning his brother's puke. Poor Sam and my fave line is "I need a second opinion". LOL. And the nurse was nice, I'm glad Sam didn't have to salt and burn her. hahah... hilarious. Like Cass's part too, what a douchebag!! lol. Love it, definitely my fav. Hugs, Ritu :))))))))

Author's Response:

Hey, hun,

Glad you enjoyed poor concussed and befuddled Sammy. And you liked the puking part???? *gags*....Ewwww....lol.

I'm sure by the time Sam got healed, Dean really wanted to whack him upside the head, concussion or no. Oh, dear...and yes, the nurse was very nice, although she must be wondering about Sam's state of mind.

Thanks hun

hugs you back

Hi Jules - good to have something to read whilst waiting for the latest snowfall to melt. Poor Dean so much to put up with and now a wonky Sam too. I love how Sam confessed all that was wrong with him to an astonished Castiel. Of course as Sam didn't remember what he'd said to the nurse I am sure Dean can milk that for all its worth. Nice one.

And we can look forward to one next week too. Great :)

Jacq

Author's Response:

Hi, Jacq,

Lol - whereas down here, we're just melting. Or being washed away in all the rain and floods.

Yep, Dean certainly had his hands full with concussed and literal Sam. It was fun to do, actually, and see what I could come up with for Sam to just run off at the mouth like a bolting horse - lol. And if Dean hadn't shut him up, I'm sure Sam would have just kept detailing all his woes to poor Cas...

Thanks so much for stopping by and having a look. And yep, new one next week....leaping into season six again. Then hoping to get back to an earlier season with the next one. Season six is too scary...

Hey Jules

Thank you for a funny and entertaining lunchtime read. I always enjoy a concussed Winchester, they are adorable when vulnerable.

Happy New Year

Bev x

Author's Response:

Hi, Bev! Hope your new year is going well so far.

I'm chuffed that I could give you a nice lunchtime - lol. Oh, and I know what you mean - I'm partial to a bit of concussed Winchester myself - lol.

Stripping Sam of about twenty-odd years of maturity was fun, especially as he was so uber-hunter during season four.

Thanks so much for reading.

LOL!  I love concussed Sam!  It's endearing, but with this little age, considering the season you set it.  Well done!

Author's Response:

Thanks, Julie!

I enjoyed writing concussed!Sam - he was such fun. And I just had to have a light moment for season 4, since pretty much most of the season was so dark and angsty. Sort of like 5 and 6, really....

So glad you liked it. Sometimes you just need a bit of humour to level out the angst.
