Wonderful story!    I am glad that Dean finally realized how much good he has done and how much he has affected other peoples lives.

Author's Response:

Thanks so much!  I thought he needed the reminder, especially at that time.  (They can still use it now...)

I'm glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for reviewing!

I finally got to read this and am so glad that I did. This is something I would love for Kripke/Gamble to do for Dean, and even, Sam. They do need to be reminded of how much good they accomplished. This was so well done and heartfelt. Thank you.

Author's Response: Thanks so much!  I really, really think the boys need a reminder that what they're doing is important, even if the end isn't always what they wanted.  Thanks for your kind review!

I really loved Sam's observations on seeing his brother stripped of his usual mask, and realising that it didn't take a lot of fuss and bother to make Dean happy. Loved too, that he also realised how much they had accomplished just in and of themselves, without any help from supernatural entities or powers.

It was almost like seeing Dean for the first time, and it was a very sweet moment.

And poor Dean, although I think it did him good to see all those people he'd saved, and know how they saw him, how highly they regarded him.

I hope your dad had a good day. And I'm sure he loved this story.

Thank you so much for sharing this with us.

Jules

Author's Response:

One of my favorite show scenes of all times is the final scene in A Very Supernatural Christmas, with the look of awe on Dean's face when he comes in and finds the Christmas tree, and Sam's happiness at seeing Dean's joy.  I just wanted to give them another moment like that, and wanted Sam to realize how much they've *both* helped.

Thanks for all your kind words! (And my dad will be turning *91* later this month...and he still doesn't want any parties!)

And then, like a light had switched on, I saw Dean standing in the doorway.

Loved that line for so many reasons. The fact that Dean was the common denominator that connected all the people, and for Sam's awareness of his brother to name just two.

And poor Dean, getting ready to cut and run but manning up because he's a Winchester and Winchesters don't do a bunk - LOL.

Adored Dean realising he'd been had, and Sam looking everywhere but at him when the penny finally dropped. Ah, poor Sam - was he there for support, or to make sure he was blocking Dean's escape route?

Loved the inclusion of Lisa, and Dean's observations as she moved close.

And yes! I was right - it was for Dean's birthday! *pumps fist into the air*....

Looking forward to Dean's reaction. Will he bolt, or just give Sam that death stare that means trouble later on? LOL

Jules

Author's Response: Thanks, Jules, and yes, you win the prize (well, there were a few others who also guessed a birthday party...)  Actually, my favorite visual from that scene is Rufus waving a cocktail frank on a toothpick!

Loved the snowball fight! And the fact that Sam's laughter was very quickly cut off by a snowball as well - lol.

Hmm, still thinking that Sam's up to something with this party, especially with Dean thinking some of the kids looked familiar to him.

Very sweet little awww moment with Sari thanking them for saving her life. And loved that Dean kicked Sam in the shin - lol.

Hope Dean can scrape most of that mud off, because I have a feeling that he's about to face the music in a whole different way.

I loved your story from start to finish. The boys needed this and so did I. Thanks for sharing your gift of writing.

Author's Response:

I'm so glad you enjoyed it!  I think, after all the angst of last season (and the start of this one) we all need a little schmoop.

I tried to send in a review for chapter 7, but the site wouldn't let me. Let's see if it works for this chapter.
You got me completely by surprise with this 'twist'. I was still waiting for something bad to happen, so I never expected it to be a surprise party for Dean. What a nice thought of Sam to do this for his brother!

Author's Response:

So glad you managed to get through, and I'm really glad you're enjoying this.  I was trying to give Dean a little down time, and a little brotherly schmoop, and hoping it wasn't too much.

Thanks!

I always take a while to get into stories written in the first person but you have me well and truly hooked on this bitter sweet little tale now.  I have to admit, the scene with Missouri brought a tear to my eye.... :D

I think I might see where you are going with this, and it feels a bit like It's a Wonderful Life for Dean....

Author's Response:

Well, it's not the destination, but the journey! <g>  Hope you're enjoying the trip.

Personally, I love writing first person, because it lets me tell all the angsty thoughts hiding behind those beautiful facades...

Thanks, Amber, for your kind words!

Hailey was an unexpected treat. I really liked her - thought she'd have made a great match for Dean, actually. Much better than Cassie. Not that I hated Cassie, she was just a bit too in-your-face for my liking. And Jo was a bit young.

Anyway, loved Dean's suspicious glance at Sam after he practically bumped noses with Hailey at the bar - lol. Poor Dean. Loved the slow and steady unwinding, and the fact that he appreciated the replacement of bad memories with happy ones at their old house.

Still wonder if Sam's got another surprise up his sleeve, though. Oh, and too cute, Dean catching snowflakes on his tongue.

A sweet chapter, actually. And much-needed downtime for the boys.

Jules

Author's Response:

This is downtime for them...and hopefully a little peace.  They certainly need it--then and now!

Thanks for reviewing!

After seeing the first episode of season 6 where the boys went their separate ways for a while (again!), it was nice having this to read where they are together and concerned about each other.  It was also nice to have the walk down memory lane with characters from the first season.   I'm looking forward to seeing what happens at the party.

Author's Response: I'm so glad you're enjoying this!  I just wanted to give the boys a little peaceful time for a change...

Reviewer: zuimar (Signed) · Date: 23/09/10 10:57 AM · On: Chapter 5

Great story you're writing again, you truly are a talented writer!
I just know something's gonna happen at that party, right?

Author's Response: Guess you're going to have to wait and see! <g>  Thanks so much, and glad you're enjoying this!

Reviewer: mizpah (Signed) · Date: 22/09/10 07:39 PM · On: Chapter 5

Hmm.....still wondering if the visit is around the 24th....but I didn't see that one coming. Jenny and her new husband - well, that was a surprise.

I'm really glad that Hal said what he did about the boys having a hard life, and feeling like it's a weight on their shoulders. Even though it hit a little too close to home for Dean, I think he needed to hear that there are some people out there who are grateful to the brothers for their sacrifices.

And glad to see that Missouri is still keeping poor Dean on his toes - LOL. Oh, and had to smile at Sam's guilty look at the mention of surprises, and Dean picking up on it - LOL.

Oh, Sammy - are you getting in over your head here? But....beer and pie....sounds good. To Dean, at least.

Jules

Author's Response:

Hopefully you'll still keep reading (and reviewing!) and I hope you'll enjoy where this is going.  I'm so glad you like what I've done with the characters so far.   Thanks for letting me know!

What a touching chapter with Dean getting tomato rice soup which his mom would give him when he was sick.   Very sweet.   I love how the boys are each worried about the other in this story.

Author's Response:

I think Dean needs some mothering, and  Bobby just doesn't quite work for that!

I'm so glad you're enjoying the story, and thanks for letting me know!

Awwwwww.......comfort food from their childhood.

I really loved the description of Dean - like a dog on point. That put such a vivid picture of him in my head; I could practically smell the soup.

Still wonder if Sam's planning a little birthday surprise for his big brother, or if it's something else.

Poor Dean - panic attack. And Sam worrying not only about Dean but about what he's going to do to Dean - or rather, what his surprise is going to do.

Looking forward to the next chapter. And only a few days to go now before the season premiere....*does a happy bounce*...

Jules

Author's Response:

Jules, thanks so much for your reviews (and kind words!)  I think a lot of you have some idea where I'm heading, but hopefully I'll take a few (interesting, I hope!) detours to get there.

I hope you're enjoying Spring...we're at the stage here where the weather is summer one day and blizzard the next...the joys of a Colorado autumn.

Doing my happy dance till Friday!

I love that you're including Missouri - I really wanted her to return in the show, but sadly the boys have never made it back to Lawrence (apart from in fanfiction - LOL) to see her.

Ohh, Sammy - what have you got planned? And is the day the 24th?

Loved Dean's "She. Knows." internal declaration sounding like a sentence of doom - lol. Poor Dean - he really cops a hard time from Missouri. But I can understand his nervousness, especially since the emotions and thoughts he tries so hard to keep locked away are still very close to the surface after the wraith hunt.

Hmm, that nightmare of Sam's - a portent of things to come?

Jules

Reviewer: mizpah (Signed) · Date: 21/09/10 08:52 PM · On: Chapter 2

Hmm.....January....I think I might know what Sam's planning. Not sure what Dean's reaction is going to be, but really looking forward to seeing it, if I'm right.

Still loving the bounce-around between the brothers, especially their insights on the wraith hunt in the institution, and how badly the whole thing messed with their minds and their carefully constructed walls.

Sorry I haven't been around - real life gets crazy sometimes and I hide in my cave until things calm down a bit. But it's spring DownUnder, so I have to emerge...*sigh*.....

I love Missouri! I've never understood why she hasn't made a return to the show, she was great in the 1st season!
Can't wait to find out how you are going to use this character in your story!

Author's Response: I think Missouri was wonderful.  She doesn't have a very big role here, so I hope I've done her justice.  Thanks so much for writing!

Reviewer: ziggy (Signed) · Date: 18/09/10 04:33 PM · On: Chapter 2

Liked the fact that Dean had found talking about things cathartic, whereas Sam hadn't in the 'loony bin', a complete reversal to a few years ago.

And also like the fact that they are off to see Missouri, just love her character and wish she had appeared more in the show.

As with chapter one, it really works swapping from Dean's to Sam's POV.

Sarah

Author's Response:

Thanks so much, Sarah!  I'm really glad that you're enjoying this.  The boys certainly did a lot of role-swapping throughout the series, didn't they?

I love Missouri, too, so hope you like the way I wrote her.

Great start.  Would love to know what Sam has up his sleeve and why, if he told Dean would he not speak to him afterwards?  Intriguing!

Hey Nancy!  Okay, I know!  I should be reading the other story but I'm taking a much needed break at lunch and I saw this posted before but hadn't had time to read so thought I'd check it out.

Good work getting inside the boy's heads.  I believe this was a really dark time for them both.  I wrote one after Abandon All Hope also to hold me over until the show came back on.

I think I might have an idea what's up Sam's sleeve but I guess I'll have to wait and see.  Nice work as always.

Sonya

Author's Response:

Thanks, Sonya!  Yeah, that was certainly a dark time for our boys...

I hope you'll enjoy the rest of this (even if it's the same as your idea?)  And thanks for taking the time to R&R, even with everything going on in your life!

Nancy

Reviewer: mizpah (Signed) · Date: 16/09/10 09:23 PM · On: Chapter 1

Yeah, definitely keep posting. I'm really curious to see what Sam's got up his rather long sleeve. I'm especially intrigued by the fact that he feels if he mentions it to Dean first, his brother wouldn't ever talk to him again.

I really enjoyed the bounce between one brother's POV and the other, letting the reader know what's in their heads and how the situation is really impacting on them.

Am hoping that you will continue with this. Looking forward to seeing where you will take it.

Jules

Author's Response: Thanks so much for letting me know you're enjoying this.  It may take a while for the final payoff, but I hope it'll be an interesting ride to get there!

Reviewer: ErikaAoi (Signed) · Date: 15/09/10 08:45 PM · On: Chapter 1

Please do keep posting!  What a wonderful beginning!  These boys are at opposite ends of the same rope, trying to find each other even amidst their desperation!  Love it!

Author's Response: Thank you, thank you!  I was a little worried because this is more thoughts than action, so I hope you'll keep reading!

Reviewer: zuimar (Signed) · Date: 15/09/10 10:39 AM · On: Chapter 1

Oh, yes, please keep posting!
I really loved this first chapter, I've got no idea to whom Sam wants to go. Can't wait to find out!

Author's Response:

Oh, thanks so much for the encouragement!  I hope you enjoy the rest of it.
