Great opening.  I liked how you told this story using both Cas and Sam's perspectives.  You were so spot on with Cas's mannerisms and dialogue.  I loved the interaction between Sam and Cas.  I really liked your take on what Famine said about Dean.  I thought the quote at the end was a good way to finish this story.  Great job!

Author's Response:

Thanks!  I LOVE writing Cas and his strange mannerisms and how he doesn't always comprehend what is going on and yet he seems to have that angel insight when needed.  He and Sam both care for Dean, so it was nice to have them express that and help explain what Famine said.

I also love when I find quotes that fit the boys and both quotes seemed to be written with the Winchester men in mind.  I'm really glad you enjoyed my interpretation of where Dean's soul is.

Thanks again and take care, B.J.

This interaction between Cas and Sam is priceless. They don't get a lot of alone time on the show as Dean was really Cas' charge and Sam was an 'abomination' (Cas' words). I too believe Dean is too much of an inherently beautiful person to ever not have a soul.

And I love that Cas is the one to clarify with his usual awkward fanfare.

Author's Response:

You know, I love writing Cas, he is such an awkward observer of the Winchesters.  I wish he had more interactions with Sam, I think he finds both Winchesters fascinating and worthy.

Like Bobby, he doesn't mince words when he thinks they have strayed from their righteous path, but he is also the first to tell them he admires them when they find their way again.

Dean most certainly has a soul, a very loving and beautiful soul.  A man such as him is rare indeed.

Thanks for reading and reviewing, B.J.

How Marvelous to discover another BJ treat!!

I simply love how you describe Dean's soul as being dormant and protected. Famine could never understand a soul like his---just what I thought!

How well you portray the interaction with Sam and Cas---very true to their characters

Well done yet again!

Author's Response:

Thanks again!  I love writing Cas and seeing him with Sam is a rare treat.  I do love writing dialogue and exploring how the different characters see each other.

Dean is such an extraordinary character, such a complex and worthy example of the best humanity has to offer.

Glad you enjoyed it, I really appreciate the kind words...this story on fanfiction has yet to receive even one review, and that's with 130 hits.  Interesting how that works! LOL

Take care, B.J.

I'm of the opinion that Famine was completely wrong about Dean. Dean showed so much emotion and anguish after that episode that there is no way he was dead inside, if he was, then he would have not been practically begging for help later. I really loved your take on what could be possibly be where Dean's soul is. Just loved it! I could easily hear Cas talking to Sam, here his voice so easily. Thanks for the great one shot!

Author's Response:

Thank you for such a lovely review.  Yes, Dean most certainly has a soul.  He does feel deeply, caring so much for people he doesn't even know.  What happened to him in Hell, how he felt he let down his dad and himself, how he failed to maintain that high standard he sets for himself, no wonder he can't face that all at once.

And I love seeing Dean through Cas' eyes, an angel being awakened to the very best humanity has to offer.  Theirs is such a deep relationship and I love pulling Sam into the conversation.

It is great having two people who care about Dean helping us examine him further.  He is such a complex and intriguing man.

Thanks again and take care, B.J.
