"He was never going to have a normal life, he was never going to stop yearning for his brother, he was never going to be able to close his eyes without seeing Sam making that final sacrifice and he just couldn't live that way anymore, promise or not." You can't even imagine how you saved my day with this!!! I won't make much sense today I'm afraid as a dear neighbour of many years had a breakdown (in the worst possible way) and was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. LOVED the chapter and try to come back when I'm a bit more coherent.

I sort of had a feeling that Sam might not go up to the door when he was pulled out of the cage. That he would not want to pull Dean from the life he felt his big brother deserved.

But it's heartbreaking to think of Dean so lost - both brothers, actually - and the key to healing his broken soul is sitting at Bobby's place. 

Hopefully Bobby can convince Sam to change his mind. 

So, what is this hunt - and did the burning Sam felt at his hip when - God? - pulled him out of Lucifer's cage have anything to do with it? 

Oh, and you stick to your guns with the posting schedule and make sure you rest those eyes. We want you around for a long time to come in fanfiction, and if that means waiting for updates, then so be it.

Hi Jules,

Neither boy is in a very good place right now.  If Dean wasn't lying to Bobby about how he was doing, Sam would be there in an instant but of course, he thinks Dean is doing fine.  Stubborn men!

The burning at Sam's hip was a hint of something that will come up later. :)

I think my eyes are finally getting better.  I went to the doctor again on Wednesday and I could finally tell an improvement when they did the eye test on me but he said it could be another six months before it gets back to normal!  It's VERY frustrating!

Of course he's not happy!  I can't believe Sam's going to fall for this, "it's better for him this way" thinking.

Author's Response: Sam has the best of intentions but it's not the first time he's been wrong about what he thinks is best.  Thanks for the review!

Loe you so much for writing this, especially for this line here when Sam was asked to make his choice, "Sam's heart filled with hope, something he had long given up on. 'Dean...I need to see Dean." This is what I still hope it will be like in the end, that this special bond endures, lasts for eternity and beyond. Beautifully written; it's the first chapter and I'm already in tears seeing Sam trying to stand back and give Dean the chance of a family life but longing for his brother and Dean so absolutely not okay and so not happy without Sam ("Almost a thousand miles away, in Cicero, Indiana, Dean Winchester cradled his phone to his chest and cried." Heartbreaking!). Grand start, can't wait for the update!

Author's Response: Thanks Sabine!  I know we had a pretty good SH discussion over this very matter and where I believe they will take it on the show and what I want to see is probably two very different things (although some of those spoilers we are getting are actually in the chapters I've already written---which excites me to no end!) but I do believe that the boy's bond will never be broken.  It may take a beating but Sam and Dean will always find their way back to each other.
