Fabulous piece!  I've vacillated about whether John was actually angry and impulsive enough to strike Dean for Sam's desertion.  I'm glad you took this path and showed me the what if.  I'm also very glad Caleb was there for Dean and Bobby was there to keep the peace.

"Sometimes all it took was a phone call in the middle of the night to bring someone racing home.  Sometimes it took an order and a small army to drag a person back.  Sometimes the call originated from a broken place deep inside, the orders dictated by none other than the person's heart.  An insurgence of troops was not needed for such a return, just one soldier, always willing to make that journey back home."  These insights interspersed through the farewell between Dean and Caleb made an excellent ending!

Loved it! Long ago you once said in a story that Sam ran away under Dean's watch, and when in the series they talked about Flagstaff, I hoped you'd finally write your version of this story. And you did. And I loved it.

Now just a question, won't you post the last story from this season on ungen? I'll go to ff if necessary, but I like it better here.

Nice.  I had been trying to imagine what this whole incident at Flagstaff would have been like, and you've captured it really well.  In the episode, the way Dean talks about the aftermath of Flagstaff, it sounded very alone, so I wasn't sure how it would work in the Brotherhood universe.  This was perfect.  I can't wait to read your next one!

WOW - I really love this. I know some people dont always care to see John portrayed in such a somewhat negative light- and usually I'm one of that group... but being a fan of the Brotherhood series- this just felt VERY RIGHT. It blended so well with the series and show- that I think it was extremely fitting and not necessarily out of character for John - who I think might have done something like this ( especially considering even what Dean hinted at in Dark Side).

I'm looking forward to what you have in store for the summer....
