It worked.  You know, we see the boys bounce back after a trouncing, usually by the next epi.   It's cool to see glimpses of what happens in between.  Dean was really thrashed by Alistair.  It makes sense he'd want to get back in the game as soon as would want to keep up the big brother game face.

From Sam's perspective, I like how "take care of Dean" seemed  strange to Sam......but that he then accepts it as a new baseline.  The playing field has changed, and Sam's ready to take on a new job....watching out for HIS brother.

If Sam can avoid sounding like he's discussing feelings, then begging Dean to tone down the workout regimen might work. Good to see Sammy's caring side, rather than the demon blood-driven one!

Author's Response: Thanks for both your reviews.  If only the boys understood themselves as well as we do....

Leave it to Dean to turn a simple workout (doing either pull-ups or pushups?) into a guilt trip about stopping the apocolypse completely by himself. =) Very Dean, even if I think he stands a better chance by working with Sam instead of always trying to protect him.

i think it worked.  I didn't really catch where in time we were until I read Sam's POV, but I think that worked fine for the piece.

Author's Response: I'm glad it worked.  I originally wrote just the first part, and then realized I needed to show both sides...Thanks for the review!

Well, you might think this story a bit odd for you, but to me it was a very enjoyable read! I love me some protective Sam, so chapter 2 felt like a real treat!

Author's Response: I'm glad you enjoyed it, and soooo glad you let me know!

Yikes, I found it really sad that Sam thinks Dean can't take care of himself anymore and that he'll need to take care of his big brother. I was right though about when this took place! Nice two parter!

Author's Response:

I think you understood the best what I was thinking as I was writing.  You definitely know the boys!

Thanks for all your kind reviews.

Hmmmm....I'm thinking it probably hasn't been too long since Dean was out of the hospital after being almost killed by Alistair. That would take a while to get over, no matter what shape you were in before that happened. I found it kind of sad how he looks back at his failings with his dad. Looking forward to reading Sam's POV.

I liked these a lot - the different characters clear from their different POVs.  Dean with all that angry vulnerability laced with fear that he's not the man he used to be; shaped by all that pressure his Dad put on him as much as by his Hellish experiences.  And Sam, grown strong, seeing Dean's weakness for the first time and trying to step into the breach for all the right reasons...

Author's Response: Thank you so much!  I'm glad you could see the characters coming through, and I really appreciate your reviews!
