Author's Response:

So Glad you liked this little tale, Jess.....

Thank you for your high rating...It all started with me sticking those very same words on a piece of paper.....and it grew from there........

This is a good story and it's Dean must have been scared to death. I know I would be.

Author's Response:

Thank you, my young friend, for finding this old thing and leaving a review......This was my first try at writing.....but I liked the RAT idea.....I can't stand them myself .....

Nicely written, believable explanation of Dean's feelings about rats. Very much in character, both Dean's protecting Sam and not telling his Dad about the rats.

Author's Response: Thank you, Sue ...this was my first attempt ever so it was definitely on a wing and a prayer...glad you enjoyed it and thank you for taking the time to find and review.....jude

Loved this paragraph:

He could recklessly hunt skinwalkers and vengeful spirits, fearlessly face poltergeists, laugh in the face of vampires, even demons, but none of those brought on the gut-wrenching nausea or shuddering cold sweats he felt at the mere visual contact of RATS.                                                                                                 Another Another incredibly descriptive paragraph:

His bright green eyes snapped open to the sight of something furry. Even as he gave out a startled yelp and was throwing himself out of the sleeping bag, thrashing wildly and scuttling backwards like a crab across the floor, he managed to snap on the flashlight.

This was a really good story & was a great backstory to explain Dean’s fear of rats.

Author's Response: Thanks for being so sweet to review, Karen.........This story was actually written to convince Terry that I was a lost cause and couldn't string three words together to make a sentence....DIDN'T WORK!!!!!

Well done, I could really picture little Dean perched on the refrigerator with a shotgun.

Author's Response:

Thank you for taking the time to read and making the time to review.......

Yeah I could just picture him sitting Indian legged with that shotgun gripped in those small heroic hands..

Oh, this was so darn good, man you're talented. Rats, yikes! poor Dean. thanks for the awesome look into the life of the younger Winchesters, if any of the other writers on this site are as good as you, i am so thrilled i joined. thanks again for the story. Kari

Author's Response: Kari, you are so very kind to me....this was actually the first story I had written in forty years...I actually wrote it to show a very wonderful author that I COULDN"T write......she was convinced otherwise and so I kept writing...

That was really good, it was funny when Dean's eyes snapped open at the sight of something furry. I have never seen a rat and I hope I never do.       *Schelz*

Author's Response:

I used to keep several large pythons and boas for many years...rats were their main food......hated those smelly things nearly as much as Dean does....

i hope you never encounter one either, schelz.......thanks for reviewing     :0)    jude

Ahhhh very, very nice.  I don't blame Dean a bit for hating rats.  Ugh!

Author's Response: Hey, vanessa, thanks for the R&R.....it was okay for a first, I think....not too enamored with rats either

LOL....Rats...i have 4 of the furry little buggers as pets.

Author's Response: I used to raise them myself but mostly because I owned several BOAS and PYTHONS ........

Reviewer: catchme21 (Signed) · Date: 19/07/07 01:44 PM · On: Chapter 1

Lmao I love Dean's hatred for rats.  Though I do have to admit, when I was little I used to pick up tiny mice (which I guess are better than rats) off the hay bales in our neighbor's barn.  Now that I'm older lol I have to agree with you and Dean.

Oh, and I am also a HUGE fan of Breaking Benjamin, they have yet to come out with a song I don't listen to repeatedly.  *high five*  :)

Cute oneshot snjjude, looking forward to catching up on the rest of your work.  :)

Author's Response:

thank you, Kristen.....Glad you enjoyed it...   I actually wrote this as my first piece to PROVE to a fantastic writer that I could NOT write !!...     Love to here your opinion of my other stuff......

That band is awesome.... even as an old person, I think they'd be fantastic in concert..                 PLEASE TRY TO KEEP YOURSELF SAFE......Thank you for your selfless heroism...You and the boys have a lot in common!!

I agree.  I can take snakes, bugs, scorpions---anything but rats!  My ultimate fear factor.

I enjoyed the background into Dean's rat phobia.  It gave me chills more than anything supernatural!  Especially when the rat clawed up his leg---eegh!  I can't even think about it!

Anyway, marvelous job!

Author's Response:

Thanks so very much, Shannon, for the review......it really is appreciated....i'm right there with you and Dean on that dislike....

Glad you enjoyed ....love your penname...   :0)           jude

Cute story Jude! Made me smile!

Author's Response:

Thanks, Jen, Terry more or less dragged me into writing with this one .............

She asked for an attempt at writing.....and 'why does Dean hate rats ??'became my possible subject... I was pretty proud of it and still like it a lot....thanks for leaving a cookie!!

I think it was the best story I have read in a while. It was pretty good concidering you haven't written a story in 40 yrs.  It is the best story in the world.  Keep on writing more fantastic stories.

Wow - I enjoyed that story so much! You won my heart - me being a Dean girl and all. It was beautifully written. I loved how you got inside his mind about the rats. And the thought of little Dean sitting perched like a roosting hen on top of the fridge all night - just too precious! Welcome to the site, and I hope you share many more of these wonderful stories with us.

Author's Response: julie.....thanks so much for your nice review....i really enjoy your stories, too ...trying to work my way thru them....how can you be sooo prolific and still work ???!! ....Dean on the fridge was my personal favorite paragraph....just seemed like something 'our' boy would do....

Reviewer: ciel4 (Signed) · Date: 13/05/07 03:25 AM · On: Chapter 1

That was great! Poor Dean..... I would love to know why he has a fear of rats, and I think your reason is as good as any! Thanks for imagining such an entertaining story, and sharing it here.

Author's Response:

Thanks for not only reading but going the extra mile and reviewing......funny how things that happen to us as kids can give us unreasonable fears as adults...........hopefully my writing will get stronger and gain insight and more narrative with time.........

Reviewer: maria noel (Signed) · Date: 09/05/07 11:44 PM · On: Chapter 1

I think this oneshot is fantastic. You little Dean is so goofy and cute. But i loe the way you describe the rats, i don´t hate them but i was like ugh!.

You should write more,please,please.

ps: i don´t know why but when i was reading this i was remembering a book i read once...by Edgar Alan Poe . it was your way of describe the rats and their sounds....

Author's Response:

Thank you for your high praise.....I love your writings very much....wish i could take all the credit , terry added the hairless reptilian tales......i have always hated the red eyes (at night)nasty little beasts............thanks for the review....graduated from school 40 years ago this month and terry twisted that one out of me on a Sunday aft/ the new one(next week is about 3000 words and almost ready.......would love your opimion on that as well

Author's Response: kori, thanks for taking the time to read my little tale and for your nice note

Reviewer: gaelicspirit (Signed) · Date: 08/05/07 02:20 PM · On: Chapter 1

Okay, knowing this was about rats, my skin started to crawl when I came to this line: As he was drifting off, something cold and

wet touched his cheek."

And then you had them swirling around Dean's ankles as he moved Sam to the safety of the counter!! *shudders* Well done. :)

I loved the image of Dean, ever watchful, with the rifle in his arms, waiting for John to return. And I'm glad he didn't tell John about the

rats... I think that's very true to character -- Dean started crafting his masks at a young age.

Thanks for writing, and welcome to the fray!

Author's Response: knowing that you are one of Terry's 'babies' means a lot to me especially since i've enjoyed your writings so much ....thank you for taking the time to write such a great review

Author's Response: god bless you, terry....i've never had so much fun.........  I'm working on a word program addition so hopefully won't see the indents again..........thanks again for helping me make the grade
