I watched the unfolding of S4 with ever-growing trepidation as I saw the crack between the brothers widen to a chasm.

I'm a Dean girl, but I found myself taking Sam's side quite often because Dean seemed intractable and unreasonable about a number of issues.....until we found out about Sam's addiction and all the lies.

But they had help - I firmly believe that both angels and demons were manoeuvring the brothers from the sidelines. And I would not be at all surprised if it was revealed that Zachariah and Ruby or Lilith struck a deal to get Sam to break the final seal. Zachariah had to let that phone message get out, and Ruby knew what Sam would hear when he played it.

So I suppose they were doomed right from the start.

Having said that, I also hang onto the strong hope that they will find their way back to each other and repair their shattered bond.

Lovely, if poignant and sad revelation of Dean's thoughts. Thank you so much for sharing.
