I wondered, once we found out about Mary's deal, etc, whether her ten years of the promised normal safe life had dulled her hunter's senses and that she actually forgot about the deadline.

Until that night. And then it was way too late - she'd doomed herself and her infant son in one fell swoop. How horrified she must have been when all the dots finally connected.

Nice recap of the pilot opening sequence, with a few little missing pieces just to set the tone. Loved the bathtime and the closeness of little Dean and his baby brother.

And the heartbreaking end scene with John sitting on the hood of the Impala with his boys, trying to come to grips with what he'd just seen....*sniffles*.....

Author's Response:

hey Jules,

Yes, that's exactly what I wanted to convey as I wrote the opening paragraph--that Mary forgot about hunting, etc but something alerted her that night. It's so sad that she couldn't act on that to save herself and Sam.

Thanks! I've always thought that the boys were close since before the fire...

I know, that scene always breaks my heart.
