the enjenus way that you pose sam is very protective and asertive but the threat that jermey is coming is scaring the hell out of me. this is good and creative writing of yours.

arms wrapped around his knees; tears cascaded down his cheeks, and his shoulders shook with sobs. He wanted to go home, he wanted to be far away from this awful place.

The door pushed open, revealing Jeremy. “Breakfast time Brat,” he sneered holding out the tray he was holding.

Sam shook his head, “not hungry” he whispered.

Jeremy scowled, he set the tray down and advanced on him. Sam had barely scrambled to his feet, before Jeremy’s fist collided with his face; the force of the blow slamming him to the ground again.

“You do as you’re told!” The words were followed by a swift, hard kick to the ribs.

“You don’t speak unless we tell you to!” Another kick.

“And you don’t…!” Kick.

“…Answer…!” Kick.

“… Back….!” Kick, kick, kick.

Sam cowered on the floor sobbing, his body curled into a fetal position in a vain attempt to protect himself against the violent attack.

Jeremy scowled at him, “now you go without…” He snarled, “… I’ll be back tomorrow, and we’ll see if you’ve learned your lesson.”

The door slammed shut behind Jeremy as he left, Sam sobbed, still laying on the ground; his side searing with pain.

“He’s a bloody disrespectful little Brat!” Jeremy scowled his eyes fuming, Dawn shook her head.

“What did you expect? You take these boys away from their homes, and expect them to fall into line right away…” She shook her head, “… They’re just kids Jer, scared and traumatised kids.” Jeremy scowled, “you think you can do better with him?” He snarled, at her answering nod Jeremy growled. “Fine, he’s your’s… but at the end of the day Dawn, its only discipline they understand.” Dawn shook her head, “not true… Everyone responds better to kindness then brutal violence.” “I’m not gonna coddle them!’ Jeremy roared, “they’re here to fight… And kindness doesn’t make fighters!”

Dawn shook her head, “give me two weeks and I’ll prove you wrong.” Normally she didn’t care what Jeremy did to the boys, but for some reason Sam had touched her.

Jeremy scowled and growled low in his throat, “I said the kid was your’s… So do what you want with him… But don’t come crying to me, when the kid turns out to be a failure!”

Dawn nodded and left, she had to win Sam over first, gain his trust; to do that, she would have to start right away.

***

Sam stiffened as the door opened quietly, his body instantly starting to tremble in fear. Dawn smiled as she closed the door behind her.

“Hey…” She knelt beside him, “its ok. I’m not going to hurt you.”

Sam glared at her and pushed himself back into the corner, his eyes wide with fear.

Dawn sighed and shook her head. “I promise Sam,” she said gently. “I just want to help,” Sam didn’t move, nor did he stop glaring.

“I brought you something to eat…” Dawn held the bowl of meaty stew out to him, Sam drew back away from her hand. Sighing Dawn scooted back away from him, leaving the bowl in his reach.

“I won’t hurt you Sam…” She stared into his eyes and tried to sound as sincere as possible, “I promise.”

When he still made no move to take the stew Dawn sighed, she stood slowly and backed away from Sam to the door.

“You can trust me Sam,” she said quietly; then she was gone.

Sam sniffed, and wiped his nose on the back of his sleeve. Then he slowly moved forward, he picked up the bowl and took a tentative mouthful. His stomach growled as he devoured the stew ravenously, he was starving.

******

Dean wouldn’t get out of bed, he was miserable, and depressed. Sam was gone, and it was his fault. He should have looked out for him better, should have done his job. Now Sam was gone, and they had no leads, no way to find him. “Dean?” Bobby’s voice was gentle, “I brought you something to eat.” Dean shook his head, “not hungry Bobby.” he didn’t even bother lifting his face from the pillow, Bobby sighed. “come on kid… You have to eat something… Gotta keep your strength up.’ Dean growled. “I’m. Not. Hungry!” why couldn’t Bobby just leave him alone! “Dean_” “Get out!” Dean roared, Bobby stood shocked, he didn’t move. Dean felt his rage building, “I said… get. Out!” Bobby shook his head, sighing he turned and walked out of the room.

Dean stood and slammed the door shut, he breathed heavily; his shoulders heaving.

“Ahhh!” He slammed his fist into the wall, again and again and again, each time cracking the plaster… Until his fist went all the way through, Dean growled and wrenched his fist out of the hole in the wall; his knuckles were torn and bloody. He sighed and walked out of his room to fix himself up.

“What did you do?”

Dean shrugged as he put bandaids on his hand, “put my fist through the wall.” Looking at Bobby he sighed, “I’m sorry Bobby."

“Nah kid… I understand,” Bobby smiled tightly at him, “you’re worried about Sam.”

Dean nodded, “when’s dad coming back?” John had left two days ago, and had yet to return.

Bobby shook his head, “when he finds somethin’ I guess.”

Dean sniffed, “and until then?’

Bobby sighed and shrugged, “you want something to eat Dean?”

Dean sighed and finished fixing up his hand, “I guess I could eat.”

Bobby smiled, “ok then… let me go get us something to eat.”

Dean sniffed and closed his eyes, Im sorry Sammy. he felt tears slid down his cheeks, Im sorry.

Oh good some answers. Thank you.

If you wrote that in response to my previous review then again, thank you. If you didn't and already had it planned, then you're a mind reader!

Will say I hadn't picked up that Sam was punished for being nice to Lani, and would like to suggest that you take care with your spelling.

Best wishes,

Midge

Hmm interesting story line, but I'm left with more questions than answers:

Why are the boys made to fight? What does Jeremy gain from it? Why beat them every morning, surely that just affects their fighting ability? What happens to all their injuries? Are they treated? Was Sam ever in isolation? Why does Billy help them escape? If he's just a nice guy why is he mixed up with Jeremy?  And Dawn, what hold does Jeremy have over her prior to Lani appearing in the story? I suppose my biggest question is a the combination of my first two. Why do the fights happen and what benefit does Jeremy gain from them?

I love to know some answers before then end of this tale.
