Jules, This is brilliant! I love the conversations between Sam and Matt but I ESPECIALLY loved the last scenes between the boys!! :D Happy New Year!
Author's Response: Happy New Year to you, too. Hope 2010 is an awesome one for you. After all that angst and misunderstanding, I felt the boys deserved their little brotherly chick-flick moment - lol. I'm sure they have a lot of them that we don't see on screen - damn it!!! Thanks so much for reading, hun. It was great to have you along. Jules

Jules, you were right on not eating while reading- that description was disgusting! I LOVED the limp!Sam and Matt getting the wrong impression of Dean was brilliant!! Dean storming out hurt my heart :(
Author's Response: Hi, Pink. Told ya - ROFL. I tried to make the revenant as gooey and icky as I could. You should have seen the description on the website I found - lol. Yuck! So glad I could give you limpness. And yes, Dean storming out - ah, Dean, so impulsive. He's going to get himself into trouble.....one way or another.... Jules

great story....my favorite line of the last chapter was this "For Dean to have that basic need denied to him must have been torture of the cruellest kind." loved the description of how tactile Dean is...great job as always.... Lisa
Author's Response: Thank you, Lisa. One would think that Sam's the toucher, since he's the more outwardly emotional of the two, but it's actually Dean. Watch all the touches, swats, bumps of the shoulder - Dean instigates it, and Sam leans into it....well, he used to...*unhappy sigh*....damned demons and angels. Thanks for coming along for the ride, and I'm so glad you enjoyed it. It was a bit of a fun story to write, actually. Nice to revisit a simpler time in the boys' lives. Jules

thankyou for a wonderful ending to a wonderful story. I always love your version of the boys, you still bring the angst with making them too needy or god forbid, girly. You deserve all the awards you get, thanks for making my 2009 a lot better and looking forward to more in 2010.
Author's Response: Oh, thank you so much. I'm stoked you loved the story. I found it hard to write Sam at first - that sounds really funny I suppose, in the light of the fact that I've won Best Sam Story two years running (and I'm a Dean girl). But it's true - Sam's emotions make him very complex. And very easy to get wrong. Hope I never get either brother wrong. Thanks heaps for your support. It really means a lot to me. And if you're going to the Con in May, and you happen to be at the Sydney one, I hope we can catch up. Jules

Loving this Jules; like everything you do. What's working for me here is your use of WIAWSNB to deepen that story and extend it past the credits. That was such a great episode that it deserves the Mizpa treatment!!! The gore was spectacular - thanks for the warning, I put the sandwhich down!!! LOL. You nailed the brotherly bond in all it's strength and frailty. Love the blurring of the lines for Dean and can't wait to see where this is going. Thanks for the read. Abi
Author's Response: Thank you so very much, Abi. Beth and I hit a few episodes back and forth before finally settling on this one, because the angst factor was quite high. No way was Dean going to be able to walk away from that experience like nothing happened. I'm sure it would have taken him a few days to pull himself out of that borderline depression and disorientation he would have been feeling. Oh, you put the sandwich down? Thank heavens - ROFL!!!!!!! It was a bit icky, wasn't it? I was really going for the whole gruesome look there. Glad it worked - lol. Thank you - I search hard for the links between those two, even in S4 and S5. Because I really believe that they are stronger together, not apart, and I hope that their brotherly bond will survive and be restored by the end of the series. Brothers till the end, whatever that may be - and I'm really, really hoping for the two of them to hop into the Impala and drive off towards the sunset with the famous, "We've got work to do," ringing in our ears. Jules

O.K., finally was able to read this chapter, and you tore my heart out. I look forward to your next chapter, because I know(I do have complete confidence in you)you will have Sam telling Matt exactly what he thinks and feels about his brother. I think Matt needs to be put in his place as far as that concerned!! I also see some emotional brotherly angst in your next installment. Look forward to that, too. It's Tuesday for me so I only have a few days to wait. Talk to you then and take care. Jane
Author's Response: Oh dear.....I so hate when I do that to readers - lol. Oh, you're making me really blush now. But you are right - there is a lot more to that conversation than just "I know...". Dean should have stuck around for the finale.... The angst quota is still quite high - I'm not finished torturing Dean yet - LOL. And yes, only a couple of days to wait instead of a whole week. And as I type this, it's only one day away from the update. All questions answered, I promise. Take care, and have a Happy New Year. Jules

Whew, what a chapter! I finally found the time to sit down and read this (Christmas stress, you know? lol!). Thanks for the warning though. Urgh, REALLY detailed description of the revenant and it's state of "composting" :) I could slap Matt. "There's a way out" - hello, no! That's Sam's decision. Aw, come on Sam, snap out of it! Poor Dean. There he goes again: "Saving people, hunting things.... We don't get paid, we don't get thanked!" No, instead he got maneuvered out of the house and separated from Sam. So sad... Looking forward to the final installment, although I wish I could get more chapters to this story! As always, beautiful writing Jules. Thank you!
Author's Response: Thanks, Dagmar. There was a fair bit going on in that one, wasn't there? And it was practically raining revenant bits...... Ah, another one who wants to slap Matthew upside the head with something heavy and blunt - lol. Can't blame you - Matt's careless words have wounded deeply this time. Sam's got his work cut out for him to repair the damage - of course, first he has to find Dean....hope he hasn't skipped town already....... Thank you, hun. It's the support from people like you that has kept me going - that and the love of all things Winchester. I've made some friends through SN that I will keep for life. Jules

Wow, I think I would have turned around and got a gas mask before I dealt with the revenant, otherwise I would have puked for sure. Have you ever smelled gangrenous flesh? I have and it's no fun to be around. Anyway, awesome description, it was absolutely creepy and horrific. The guy sure had a lot of strength and I'm glad Dean got him before he could do more damage. Too bad he didn't stay and hear all of Sam's response, because I'm sure there was more to it than just the "I know...". Darn stubborn Winchesters. What in the world is Sam going to think now and what about Matt and Felicia? Still don't know what exactly happened. Can't wait for more. Really great story. Hugs, Vonnie
Author's Response: Ooh, I'm a little worried - you're not understanding the story? Have I slipped up somewhere? Or is it that I just haven't revealed everything that is going on as yet? We find out what secret Matt's been hiding in the final chapter. And no, I haven't smelled gangrenous flesh - thankfully. I have a weak stomach......believe it or not....Thanks hun - glad I did the gore justice, and I wanted the revenant to be particularly gross. Ah, so you're putting your faith in your beloved Sammy?...*smiles knowingly*...We find out the rest of that conversation very , very soon...... Jules

VERY suspenseful chapter--I loved the fact that you included a revenant, not enough fics about them. Matt was kinda a jerk in this. I was a little surprised Dean would have to explain about them being wanted by the FBI--I'd have thought Rebecca would've mentioned that Dean got blamed for the shapeshifter thing when she told Matt about it. Anyway, I wanted to deck Matt for mouthing off about Dean and making assumptions. Poor Dean! Love that he took off though, because I know that Sam will go after him and they'll finally talk. *rubs hands gleefully* Wonderful story, Jules!
Author's Response: Thanks, Beth. I wanted something a little different to a normal vengeful spirit, but something that the boys could mistake for one in the early stages. I tried to be as inventive as I could with the deaths - lol - hope it worked. And the revenant just fitted nicely. Yes, Matt is being a moron. I think there is a little nasty surprise waiting for him in the final chapter. Re the FBI - Becca and Zach might have mentioned them being in trouble with the law, but the FBI trouble came about later, so they might not have known about the increased law problems. Ahh, you're waiting for that all-important chick-flick moment? Depends on whether Dean gets himself into a spot of trouble before Sam finds him........dun-dun-dunnnnnn..... Jules

Okay, I know I've already raved to you via email about this story, but just wanted to say again how much I'm enjoying it. Loved Dean's near panic attack--I love stuff like that in a fic, when Sam has to calm him down--and how the djinn Sam's words keep haunting him. Great progress on the case, too, very interesting twist. And this made me laugh: "Jeez, do they teach that freakin' line to all the kids at Stanford, or just the stubborn-ass ones?"
Author's Response: Yes, you did - I believe you even added an "Ack!" or two - or was that for the third chapter - LOL. Thank you for that. Yes, poor Dean just had the proverbial rug pulled right out from under him when his Sam said the exact same words the Djinn-Sam had spoken, without Sam even realising what he'd done. Everything is just serving to unbalance Dean more, from the reality shifts to his worry over Sam meeting up with his friends. And to make matters worse, the hunt is about to go south..... Jules

Great setup for the case. Love the introduction of Sam's Stanford buddies and Dean's vulnerability with them around. Also loved the silent communication when Dean checked on Sam from across the room.
"You're not still pining for that blonde girl, are you? What was her name? You know, the one who died." Hard to believe there are actually people out there who are SO insensitive. I wanted to kill Felicia for the comment she made that hurt Dean, too. I'm glad we found out it wasn't true, I just wish Dean knew that, too. Lovely start! :)
Author's Response: Thanks, Beth - I was so relieved that you liked it. It was a long time coming, but I got it in before the new year - thankfully - lol. And yes, there are actually people out there like Felicia - and worse..... As for Dean - well, he's got a long hard road to travel with this hunt - lots more angst before we're through. Jules

Okay, I want to throttle Matt. I know he means well, but he is not helping matters. Poor Dean. Poor Sam. Can't wait to find out what happens next. Off to read your Christmas story.
Author's Response: Oh, LOL - no, he's not helping at all. And Matt really shouldn't be pointing fingers.... Won't be too long to wait till we find out all the answers such as just what Matt did lie about - and the rest of that damning conversation. Hope you enjoy, and thanks for coming along for the ride. Jules

I read your other story before I realized you had posted this chapter! I'm behind on everything! Only one more chapter? Can't wait to see what happens next. Oh, and your gore was....well, gory. :) I like!! Happy New Year!
Author's Response: And a very Happy New Year to you, too. Oh, that's all right - we all get behind - real life is a cruel master. And yep, only one more chapter - a little short one, this. Liked the gore? LOL. It was a wee bit gruesome, wasn't it? Bits of revenant falling off everywhere. Messy creatures..... Jules

I'm back and getting caught up- looks like I didn't fall too far behind! So. This chapter. EWWWW!!!! Revenants are NASTY! That was wonderfully gross. I had to laugh at Felicia clinging to Dean like a "limpet". Why does Matt keep her? He's an idiot. So is Dean for storming out of the doctor's house after he overheard what Matt and Sam were saying. I hope he gets things straightened out soon! WONDERFUL chapter!
Author's Response: Oh, no worries, Julie, and no, you didn't fall far behind. I was actually a couple of days late with this because of Christmas Day, so you're right. Revenants are wonderfully nasty, aren't they? The lore made for very interesting reading, actually, especially how to take them down. But they were a wee bit gross with all their bits rotting and falling off - LOL. Ah, yes, the indomitable Felicia - nothing keeps her down long, does it? Although I don't think she's going to get her wish where Dean's concerned. And yep, Matt's a moron. We get to hear the rest of the conversation that Dean bailed out on in the next chapter - and exactly what Matt lied about to get the revenant sicced onto him. Jules

Next time Dean should just let the nasty kill Matt! He should also have a bit of faith in Sambut I suppose after the Djinn his faith in both Sam and himself is shaken. excellent chapter ca't wait for Friday.
Author's Response: ROFL! Yes, but then Sammy might have been splattered by all the gore, and he really wouldn't have been pleased when he woke up - lol. Dean's grip on reality is slipping fast - he's not sure now where the Djinn's fantasy ends and real life begins. Everywhere he goes, doubts and reminders are hitting him hard and fast, leaving him reeling. Hopefully Sam will find out he left, and will find him before he gets himself into trouble..... Jules

For someone who had just had his a*se saved by the Winchesters, Matt certainly has a one-sided opinion of Dean, only looking at what he sees as the negative effect of his relationship with Sam. You'd think he'd be a little more grateful but some people obviously can't see the whole picture. And what's with the dreadful Felicia still trying to get close to Dean, I know she's just had the shock of her life but it hasn't put a dent in her determination to get close to him! And poor Sammy, concussed and with a dislocated shoulder and with a college buddy who's not listening to what he is saying, thinking Dean's hauled him into a life he doesn't want. They say you never hear any good when eavesdropping and Dean has backed off after only hearing part of Matt and Sam's conversation. With his mind still reeling over the Djinn episode I hope the older Winchester doesn't do anything rash after filling in Aunt Maddie's grave. Great installment sis. Hope you had an amazing Christmas. Sarah
Author's Response: Hey, sis, Yep, Matt's a bit of a fool - but then, look who he picked as a girlfriend...... And you're right - you never hear anything good, and Dean just happened to pick the worst moment to come to the door. Let's hope that Sam can make it to him in time before he does something he'll really regret - unless of course Sam doesn't want to find him........*grins evilly*...... I had a very peaceful Christmas, sis, just Chris and me, and a really good day. The heat wasn't too bad thankfully - we had a bit of rain to cool things off. Jules

How dare Matt say such things about Dean when he knows nothing about him. Looking forward to the last part and hopefully to Dean finding out that he misunderstood what Sam was going to say.
Author's Response: Thanks, Lindsay. Yes, Matt conveniently forgot that it was Dean who just saved his life. He's on a very misguided mission at the moment - more will come of that in the next chapter. And Dean - well, Dean - his head's a scary place right now. Hopefully he won't get into too much trouble on his own before he realises that he really should have stuck around for the rest of that conversation..... Jules

What an intense full action chapter. Dean in hunting mode was amazing. It's official, I hate Matt, Felicia and all their buddies. Awww...Dean is still filling with doubts about Sam and what he thought about him. Who was the revenant and why he wanted to kill Matt, inquiring mind want to know. I'm so looking forward to your next chapter Jules.
Author's Response: I love the boys in hunting mode, actually. And it's great to show their talents. Aww, all their buddies? Even Jen? LOL. Yes, Matt's been a bit short-sighted in all this, and more on that will be revealed in the epilogue. He's not a bad sort really - just an idiot.....well, okay, he's a moron. And Felicia is a biatch, no doubt about it. Who the revenant is and what its connection is to Matt is revealed in the final chapter - which is only a few days away. Thanks, hun. Jules

Way to go, Dean!!! Always the hunter! Gah how I hate Matt and Felicia... Dean just saved your asses and you're gonna treat him like this??? Too bad he cant dig up that zombie and turn it loose on those two snobs again- maybe leave them to deal with it on their own- their so righteous... And Sammy- really??? Dude- I know you're beat up and dazed- but you might could have stuck up for your bro just a tad bit more... Are these clown really worth impressing THAT much??? And Dean... really need to stop listening to those voices in your head... poor guy!!! As always Jules- just an awesome chapter... so full of emotion... and it just draws the reader in. I wanted to beat the crap out of Matt myself- was actually rooting for the revenant to tear the jerk limb from limb... ah well... the story isnt over yet- maybe I have hope... Now I'm just wondering whether it will be Dean or Sam that punches the jerk in the face...LOL
Author's Response: Oh, gosh - calm down, hun - ROFL! I love the reactions I'm getting from the OC's. Is that bad of me? Well now, are you sure that Sam was agreeing with Matt, or was there a wee bit more to the conversation that Dean didn't stick around for? And yes, that was pretty bad form for Matt to conveniently forget that Dean just saved his life. Not cool. The voices unfortunately are about to have full sway in Dean's poor cluttered mind - we'll just have to see what trouble he gets himself into during his absence, and who, if anyone, will come to his rescue......*cue dramatic music*... Hope you had a good Christmas hun. Jules
Reviewer: Midge (Signed) · Date: 27/12/09 09:49 AM · On: Chapter 3
Matt is such a jerk! Felicity is beginning to look positively saintly in comparison. How dare he judge Dean so soon after the brothers saved his and Felicity's lives? Whilst I understand Dean's reaction, Sam is going to be so hurt when he realises Dean has left him. Then he's going to go ballistic when he realises the part Matt played in his brother's departure. Don't think I'd want to be in his shoes when Sam is with it enough to realise what's happened. Roll on Friday so I can enjoy more of your great writing. Unfortunately I won't be able to enjoy your Christmas offering until longer after Christmas since it's set in season 5.
Author's Response: LOL - hi, Midge. Yes, Matt's a bit short-sighted, isn't he? Or short attention span - one or the other. How quickly he forgets that Dean just saved his life. And yep, Sam's not going to be a very happy camper when he finds out Dean bailed without a word - but who is he going to be most angry with? Dean...or Matt? Ah, S5 - that's right, you're spoiler free. That's all right hun - it won't be long before you're all caught up, and the story will still be there waiting. Hope that you had a good Christmas - was it a white one? Jules
Reviewer: bia1007 (Signed) · Date: 27/12/09 07:34 AM · On: Chapter 3
Oh wait, just one more chapter to go? You will make it right I hope - Dean is at his lowest point and Sam isn't even aware (the damage words can do and Sam's were misunderstood to make it worse, it's unbelievable - "What the hell kind of a brother is he? It's like he doesn't even care! 'I know...' Sam's sof, almost apologetic reply cut through Dean's heart like a knife and he stiffened in shock for a breathless second before turning away", how much this must have hurt Dean!). The gruesome fight with the revenant (and boy it was vivid) and both brothers worry for each other however showed so clearly they need to walk at each others side, for this is their strength. Loved the chapter and really can't wait for the closure!
Author's Response: Yep, just one more chapter, hun. A little short one this time. And yes, I'll do a little band-aid work - lol. No, Sam hasn't a clue what is going on - he thinks it's to do with Stanford, but that's only the tip of the iceberg. And yes, Dean only hearing part of that conversation - the worst bit, of course - has only reinforced his fears and the sense of not knowing what is real and what is the dream. Sam's got a bit of repair work to do....once he finds Dean of course....if he finds him in time...... dun-dun-dunnnnnnn....... Jules

Author's Response: You are correct in your assumption - lol. I am going to go back and finish that conversation that Dean only heard part of before he took the bolt. Oh, urk - three days with outlaws??? I'd have killed mine - when I had them, that is. Very difficult people, they were. I had the sort of mother-in-law that people make all the jokes about. Jules, This is great! I love the little hints of Dean's anger and some what distrust of Sam (it's sad knowing what's happened on the show and reading this...) I kinda like Matt but I can't stand Felicia (guess who I'm hoping is the victim :P) BRING on the limp! Merry Xmas!
Author's Response: Hey, Pink! Yes, it is sad, considering what has happened in canon. And Dean's distrust stems from his inability to separate reality from the Djinn fantasy. And the whole being threatened by Sam's Stanford friends thing. There's still a lot of hurt there over Sam leaving in the first place, and I think that in the back of Dean's mind, he's still waiting for Sam to take off back to that normal life once the hunt for the YED is over. Bring on the limp? Your wish is my command - LOL. Major limpness coming up. Did you have a good Christmas? Was it a white one? We had heat and rain - but it was a good day for all of that. Jules

Author's Response: Merry Christmas Lise. Hope you had a wonderful day. The tension is building, just like that storm, and both break over the town in the next chapter. The boys confront the revenant, and - well - let's just say there's some whumpage..... And then there's the whole thing of Matt lying - how and why. Don't fall off that seat, hun. LOL Jules
