Interesting that Samuel Campbell saved Dr Carmichael when he was a child, allowing him to unconsciously return the favour years later by saving the life of Samuel's grandson and namesake.

Fingers crossed that his words to both boys helped the situation a little more, and that Sam is really on the mend this time.

Ah, Jo's married - didn't pick that bit up in the early chapters. Damn...she would have been a great match for Bobby.

Author's Response: Yeah, I regret now that I let her be married, but I don't believe in cheating or divorce. Don't think Bobby does either. Anyway, I'm glad you liked it. This was really a sudden thought given by my muse and I didn't even think of as the doc repaying a favor without knowing it. Great thought here. I like Nurse Jo. But I can't help wondering if she's got the hots for a certain gruff demon hunter - LOL.

So sad that Sam still thought he didn't belong there - Dean had to stray into the dreaded chick-flick territory to get him calmed down. Hopefully Sam will be a little more coherent after he's had some rest, and they adjust that new medication, so he and Dean can have the talk that both are crying out for.

Dean did find the perfect (and honest) words to give Sam some peace back and convince his little brother to stay with him! There's a wonderful quote by Thornton Wilder and that's exactly what you showed us here in the most touching way - "There is a land of the living and a land of the dead, and the bridge is love, the only survival, the only meaning." Loved it and love you for writing it!

I didn't think I could love this story any more than I already do and then you write this and prove me wrong once again - this one passage alone, "Getting up from his resting place..., his mind overruling his heart's desire to turn into the direction from which the voice came....There was actually a third thing he noticed, worse than any of the first two and that was that he was now running towards the voice at a speed tha let it become louder at an alarming speed" is such a beautiful image, Sam's heart desire is to come home to Dean and in the end they always find their way back to each other. And Dean pulling back Sam with his voice, his love, this is poetic!

Loved the visual of Sam being drawn faster and faster towards Dean's voice, and the nightmare world inside his head mirroring the real world with Dean's arms open and waiting to catch him when he finally was dragged over the event horizon.

Loved, too, Sam being able to hear Bobby's voice, and knowing that it signified home, even though he fought it and still felt he didn't deserve to turn back to it.

Hmm, it's still going to be a battle, eh? I'm hoping Dean can work his big brother magic now that his brother's awake.

No, it wasn't sugary at all, it was wonderfully balanced and genuine emotion and I just can't tell how much I love the message here and to see Dean realize this after sharing Sam's fear ("For some time he just sat motionless, trying to find his way out, incapable to get away from the incredible sadness...and then in a flash it was over and he could think clearly again. It was exactly that moment that he realized what he experienced hadn't been his own emotions, but rather the ones of his brother...No matter how far Sam was going to run, he would find him, would get to him and bring him back... Stunning!) that no matter what neither one will go somewhere the other can't follow! Bliss!
