Hey Schelz! Remember me from FF.net? I finally got the net at home and signed up here. I like this drabble. John's willing to put on a happy face for the boy's sake. He really was a good dad even though he messed up in a lot of ways. I'm looking forward to reading some of your longer stories soon!

Very interesting! You have the happy---Sam and Dean celebrating their father. and the sad---John being forced to be happy for his sons. A touching story!

I know, it's sad but I can just picture John pretending, he always knew they didn't deserve the life he forced on them and he can't feel very good about it. I know this is that kind of story where you have to read between the lines to get what the writer is saying. It is one of those stories, right? 'coz i don't want to be rambling on about nothing. I really like the way that you put so much emotion in to 100 words. I mean not alot of people can do that. You're a true writer. And no I'm not just saying that 'coz I'm your sister and it's my job. I'm saying it 'coz it's true. I hope that whole thing didn't sound too corny. LoVe U sis. Keep it real. LOLOL.

Ouch. Such a brutal moment for John, and what I imagine is a vicious cycle for him - he loves his boys, but believes he's not enough of a father, but he'll smile for them because he loves them, which would make him feel like more of a fraud, which.....
Author's Response: I'm so glad you get it, it's not always easy getting a message across, esp with drabbles. lol I still believe John was the way he was because he felt like a failure. Most thought he was a jerk but I think he made mistakes like most parents. (fair enough his was big) But he still loved them and would do anything for them, including being a fake on father's day! The last line is especially heartbreaking. "But today he'd smile, for them." This is such a great drabble. It's sad, but it's also uplifting, especially to see John like this. He would put on a happy face for the boys, because he was just that kind of dad. He may not have been the sweetest or the most thoughtful, but he loved them so much. And this is a perfect example of that. As always, you inspire me <3

Wow, that was sad, the boys so happy to celebrate, and John just pretending, not really believing in it anymore.
Author's Response: I know :S but putting on a happy face is the least he can do, as a parent you sacrifice, and I wanted to show that John did that for his boys once in awhile. It's like not believing in Santa but making out to your kids that the gifts are for him...you do what you have to! Thanks for reviewing xx

To me this says that John may feel he has failed as a Father, that sometimes he feels worthless, he hasnt provided a stable home or a safe life, so why should he believe in Fathers Day, but he'd keep his happy face on and never let them see that... See - it got me thinking! Nice one Jacq xx

This is a great drabble, sounds very true-to-Winchester life. I was going to say it's bittersweet (John's bitter and the boys are sweet), but that's negated by your last lines, showing that John's going to smile and pretend to be happy, for his sons - a very fatherly thing to do. Sue
