I love that line.  "Maybe".  Dean said maybe.  For Dean, even that's a big step.

A very Winchester-ish drabble excellently written.  In just a few words you've captured Sam's need to help his brother and Dean's need to keep his fears private.  He makes an ambiguous promise just to avoid a fight and evade his worst emotional torture.

Thanks for the review. Good to know that the feelings underlying this drabble made sense to you. The other reason that Dean says "maybe" is to go along with the later ep (Between Heaven and Hell), when he does tell Sam about Hell.

How very touching!  We expected Sam and Dean to be consumed with the welfare of the other but we also get a glimpse of how deeply John loves and knows his sons.  He tells each of them exactly what will put their fears to rest.

Very perceptive!  This shows the bond between Jess and how important Sam and Jess are to one another.  I especially liked that she realized a conversation was being silently communicated with expression.  That's a sure sign of a deep connection.

"They were so talking about this when Sam returned."  Gotta love that part!

I like protective!John.  We didn't get see much of him in S1.

I'm fond of protective John, too. You have to look hard for protective!John in season 1. You could say he was protecting them the only way he knew how, by staying away. John did show up in Chicago, and then Elkins died and the Colt came to light, and things got complicated.
