That was just lovely.  Beautiful Dean voice in this, and it all felt perfectly in character.  Thank you so much for having Dean hate Florida.  And having the dead waitress prang him with a ladle.  And for being so sick, and having this incredible conversation with Sam.  Loved every word.

Author's Response:

Only in the world of fanfiction would you hear a thank you list like that... hee

Glad you liked it hun, and thanks!

Cal,

As you know, RL has been a bit of a b***h the last week or so, so it was doubly delightful when I saw this lovely birthday pressie from you...I didn't want to rush it, so now things are calming down a wee bit (apart from now starting to pack for Asylum) I got up extra early - made a nice mug of tea (in my pirate mug) and have just sat down and read, then re-read my lovely Route 50.

I loved it!  Such beautiful descriptions, I could see his every move - poor babe...He's real poorly here.  The setting was perfect, so lonely and desolate, matching his mood.

Sam somehow knowing Dean needed him and phoning him to 'check in' and check up on him.  His ability to comfort Dean, despite the distance, was so poignant.  A lovely insight into their relationship with and need of each other.

Dean's slightly rambling delerium would have been all the evidence that Sam needed to convince him his hunch was right.  I loved how Sam managed to bully him in the sweetest possible way into wrapping himself in the blanket.  The phonecall managing to shrink the distance between them and Sam's voice and concern being the only real medicine that Dean required.

The angst was cranked up to the max (just how I like it, lol).  The world was a very lonely place for Dean for those years Sam was away, and this tale shows so well, just how empty things were for him.  John, leaving when he was sick was simply adding insult to injury for the poor boy.  Things like that make me so mad at John, cause it's the sort of thing he would have done without batting an eyelid.

All in all Cal, a wonderful birthday present.  Thank you so much, hun!  I'll be able to give you  a big thank you hug in the Hilton's foyer on Friday!! lol  Can't wait to see you there.

Thanks again, Jane x

Author's Response:

Well I'm glad you enjoyed it hun! You deserve it - and I can't wait to see you tomorrow! Woot!

I've been reading a lot of sick!Dean lately, and it can be really quite fun to write. He seems to get easily distracted, more so than usual! And all he needed was Sammy. Aw.

I'm especially glad you liked it as it was great fun to write - first time in a while something's written itself so enjoyably.

So thanks hun, and once again, happy birthday!

I love it! I could easily imagine Dean and Sam talking to each other hundreds miles away, but it felt like they were right there with each other. And a big thanks for making it unWincestry-shudders myelf!!

Author's Response:

There was one line - that in the right story would have been fine! - but not here. Urk. Thanks to RoweenaC for catching that one!

Glad you liked it, and thanks!

Hi! - Another excellent one, Cal-- Always fine to read good ol' hurt/comfort - brother moments, and we all know you write it so well -- Wonderful!

Author's Response:

Ta hun! I needed some old fashioned bro-love and angst, so I'm glad it worked!

Bittersweet picture - just the right amount of Winchester tenderness without descending in to Chick Flick Hell!!!! LOL.

Very nicely done - great imagery and perfect setting for the emotion of the piece. What a good friend you are to give such a thoughtful - well crafted present!! ;-)

Author's Response:

I love that road - one day, I will drive it. Meantime, it might just turn up as a setting or two!

And no - no chick flicks here. Although, you didn't see some of the outtakes...

Thanks!

Wonderful!  This is something that happens all the time in my family, the "psychic" impression that something is wrong.  I can absolutely believe it happening here.  I loved it.

Author's Response:

I've had a few moments like that. They scare the heck out of me, but it fit with Sam, so...

Glad you liked it, Thanks hun!

Cal,

This was great!  I enjoyed every word.  It was like I was hearing Dean and Sam in a conversation that we'd never hear.  Thanks!

Kim
