Intense!  I had to laugh when Missy gave Dean pink and red pills because those are her favorite colors.

You've made Lee Bender a very sympathetic person.  Even Missy is seeming less horrifying---still wavy gravy but at least slightly human.

Author's Response: Mwa-ha-ha... just you wait until Lee stops taking his meds... and don't forget Dean's comment that people are way worse than monsters...

Wow!  Creepy and cool!  No one suspects the big men of the community to be skeevy perverts---excellent!  And the creep lied his ass off, of coarse!

What a guilt trip for poor Sammy!  He was so close to his brother, so close to rescuing him.

I love it!  Especially from the Benders point of view.  "I'm keeping him."---Hilarious and terrifying at the same time.

Author's Response: The end sequence of this is intended to mirror NRftW: Dean being dragged to Hell. And that end line is a shameless lift from one of my favorite movies, ET... this story is very bleak, with some disturbing themes, but I have tried to inject some black humor in along the way because I think that while life often sucks big time there is always something funny buried in the misery if you look hard enough! ;-)

Brilliant!  I love that your story is patterned after the vocabulary and sentence structure of the Benders.  And approaching the description of Missy from the school/social worker's point of view was genius!  And to top it all off, you compared her to Dean which surprised me how much they actually do have in common.

I was in awe of how many techniques you wove into this opening chapter and worked them so flawlessly together.

This is going to be an exhillerating story!  I can't wait for the ride!

Author's Response:

I totally love that episode... I always wondered 'what if Missy got out of the closet...?' and had actually been planning to hand the plot bunny over to another writer but I had so many ideas for it I decided to give it a shot myself.

I always was struck by the apparent similarities between the Winchester and Bender children's upbringing: essentially two families of hunters. You'll see lots of references to that as you read on.

I've mentioned to some of my other reviewers that this is essentially a re-imagining of Dean's Hell ordeal set within an episode tag so there are lots of parallels sprinkled throughout... stay frosty for them!

The story is also sort of modeled after Deliverance and Southern Comfort, two great movies about hillbilly horror, tho I fear I may have transplanted a family of southern rednecks to Minnesota! I live int he south myself and the Bender dialogue and way of speaking is what I hear every day!

Uh-oh - another plan goes Winchester sideways. That's one evil cliffhanger and I've got to go to work with that revolving in my head.

Here's hoping the next update won't be long comiing.

Author's Response: Your wish is my command dude... I am about to post one of my favorite chapters in this story... and believe me the cliffhangers get even steeper now... ;-)

Reviewer: WynterSun (Signed) · Date: 10/06/09 12:37 AM · On: Where the Wild Things Are

Oh damn. I don't know what else to say other than damn!

"Bobby knows enough to leave the boy for a few minutes: way too much like his father, that one. It brings back memories of Winchester senior’s cold, lasting anger and sullen, brooding sloughs of despond that lasted for days at a time, and Bobby finds himself longing for Dean’s nuclear meltdown rage that fizzles so hot it burns itself out in an instant, leaving the boy sunshine bright, like the sky after a thunderstorm."

You've captured how the Boys handle their rage so well. I especially like how you described Dean, like the sky after a thunderstorm.

And your waaaaaay too good at cliffhangers. Lol.

Author's Response:

I always was convinced that Sam was more similar to John than Dean was... his thirst for revenge on the YED after Jessica's death always seemed to suggest very different motives than Dean had for continuing to hunt... with Sam it always seemed to be more about revenge while Dean seemed to be in it to save people. And of course the revelations in S4 really underline that fact.

And dude: you want cliffhangers... I'll give you cliffhangers. MWA-HA-HA-HA...

Sorry I couldn't come back to your story sooner but beta'ing intervened. and guess what? She is referencing the same episode you are (the dogs scene i mean). No rest For the Wicked and esp. that scene oif dean being ripped to shred is one of the hardest to watch for me...

Great job on this chapter. And yeah, you're right, I am hooked. Trouble is I have got less time than I used to and therefore might need a few days to come  back and R&R ya... Sorry 'bout that. I love it!

C ya! Ilka

Author's Response: Thanks Ilka: see you on the flip side!

Oooh creepy at the very end! Ah but I love it. :) Chapter 3 here I come.

Tori

Author's Response:

I tell everyone who reads this that they will be hooked at the end of chapter 2! The end sequence, along with the fact that Sam witnesses it, is intended to mirror the end of NRftW... plus a little callback to the very wonderful ET with that final line... ;-)

And once again, Tori: thank you for my wonderful banner!

So instead of giving you all the stars in the sky i'll just take down the freaking sun and stick that on your wonderfull brain!

CONGRADS!!!!!!!!!! copycat666

Author's Response:

Wow: I'm humbled! I'm sure there are a lot of stories here better than mine! ;-)

When I set out to write this it was with the intention of writing the kind of story I love to read: well-written, suspenseful, with a cast-iron plot and plausible whump... but my intention also is to take it way beyond just your garden-variety Hurt!Dean story. I'm paralleling a lot of events from later seasons because the story is essentially a re-imagining of Dean's Hell ordeal set within an episode tag, complete with Stockholm Syndrome, torture, PTSD: the whole nine yards. Plus, I'm also dropping in a lot of the boys' character strengths and flaws that we only find out about in later seasons... for example, Dean's abandonment issues and Sam's similarity to John. The story is complete [22 chapters in all], so stay frosty for updates!

Well since you used your best John Winchester voice I guess I have no choice other than to follow your orders. I knew Sam would get back in the game, it was only a matter of time.

Author's Response: Dude, just you wait until Sam starts using his best John Winchester voice on his confused brother... :-O

Reviewer: Midge (Signed) · Date: 09/06/09 03:58 PM · On: The Devil's Son

OMG. This update is really good. It has hope, despair, and Dean high as a kite - mega funny I was grinning from ear to ear.

Can't wait for more.

Author's Response: Cackles... all those strangled lyrics are the ones my kids have made up to those songs...

Reviewer: gypsywoman1 (Signed) · Date: 09/06/09 03:34 PM · On: And They Call it Puppy Love

Really really good. I am excited to read more and also to make this banner. Going to chapter 2. :)

Tori

Author's Response: Thanks so much dude! I really appreciate you taking the time. This story is my proudest achievement and all 22 chapters are completed bar tweaking before I post so you don't have to worry about it being left hanging!

Reviewer: RoweenaC (Signed) · Date: 09/06/09 03:33 PM · On: And They Call it Puppy Love

Yikes! Awesome start to a storydoubtlessly full of hurt, torture and action... just the way I like my Winchesters and especially Dean.

Only thing that took me slightly aback was that I found some very disturbing similarities between Missy and myself... LOL. She's darn right about his being ever so handsome when hurt and in agony... Only, I wouldn't go hunting him down for real... I think... Hm... now that got me thinking. Oh wait, can't do that. He is a fictional character right? Yeah. right, now I remember. Too bad. But how awesome is the by-proxy pleasure of writing such a torturous ordeal about Dean? I simply love fanfic!

Heads off to  the next chappie. Oh by the way, love your chapter titles. Cool!

Cheers, Ilka

Author's Response:

Thanks so much... and one reason why I might have spotted that parallel in your fic is that this story is stuffed full of them. I always loved this episode mainly because it struck me how similar the Winchester and Bender children's upbringing appears to have been, and you will see me callback to those connections as this progresses. And lots of parallels to later season events in Show... a huge one at the end of Chapter 2 [I am sure you will work out what is being mirrored], by which time I think you will be well and truly hooked on this saga! ;-)

Thanks so much for reviewing but don't slack off writing yours!

OK, so Lee's actions in that update are just plain disturbing - you take my imagination to places too nasty to go, but on the upside, Bobby is on the case and knows Deanis alive.

Reviewer: Midge (Signed) · Date: 09/06/09 02:52 PM · On: The Nature of the Beast

Oh boy! What does Sam think he has found? I know he's wrong, but my heart goes out to him all the same.

Off to read more....

Reviewer: WynterSun (Signed) · Date: 09/06/09 01:24 AM · On: A Glimpse Beyond This Illusion

Great chapters. The story is so intense I love it. I really wanna see, err, read what happens next. I'm all excited now.

Author's Response: Stay off the caffeine while you're excited, dude. That's an order... and I said it in my best John Winchester voice.

Reviewer: Renate (Signed) · Date: 08/06/09 11:13 PM · On: A Glimpse Beyond This Illusion

Yes! Bobby!

I thought maybe Sam would still follow.  I hoped so...

Author's Response: All is not lost dude... hang in there for Sammy boy!

Reviewer: thirdwatchfanatic (Signed) · Date: 08/06/09 06:55 PM · On: The Nature of the Beast

I don't understand Sam making a phone call to Stanford!?!?!?!  (Unless the Dean's a hunter and knows the area.) This has been going on for a week?  Dean would have died from infection and organ failure by now - no pills can remedy something so severe - and then there's the blood loss!  Dean needs a hospital - yesterday!  No matter what, Sam would never stop searching for Dean, not ever!!!  It would never even cross his mind!  Anyway, I'm kinda hooked.

Author's Response:

Don’t panic, dude, all is not lost re Sammy or Dean’s injuries… I know what I’m doing! ;-)

And I guess if you’re hooked I’m doing it right!

Reviewer: Midge (Signed) · Date: 04/06/09 02:55 PM · On: Exit Light, Enter Night

I'm not sure what to say - I've read this straight through this evening and am hooked. Your writing of Missy and Lou is perfect, I can hear and see them clearly in my head.

I'm glad that Sam is back looking for Dean, but wonder why on earth he is calling the Dean at Stanford - no doubt all will become clear, and I worry what side Dean will be on when Sam finally finds him, his head is so messed up at the moment.

Certainly looking forward to more.

Author's Response: Thanks muchly dude! I have just updated with Chapter 8 and am tweaking Chapter 9! I really appreciate you taking the time to review...

Reviewer: WynterSun (Signed) · Date: 02/06/09 10:34 PM · On: Exit Light, Enter Night

Another excellent instalment. I'm enjoying the plot more and more.

Author's Response:

Thanks so much! Believe me, this boy won't know what hit him when Missy and Lee are through with him but there will be much Sammy comfort coming up... ;-)

So glad you are enjoing it - it's a labor of love for me!

Reviewer: WynterSun (Signed) · Date: 02/06/09 02:50 PM · On: Fearful Symmetry

Wow. Dean's mind is going to be so messed up and I can't help wonder what those pink pills are. I'm not overly knowledgeable about the various kinds of pills and drugs. I'm super happy to know that there's more on the way.

Sorry I'm leaving a trail of reviews here, it's just such an enjoyable read. Can't wait for the next chapter.

Author's Response: Thanks muchly for taking the time to R&R, dude! You'll be happy to know this story is all finished bar some polishing: 22 chapters in all. I'm really proud of it and I hope you continue to enjoy it!

Reviewer: WynterSun (Signed) · Date: 30/05/09 12:11 AM · On: Off to Never-Never Land

Whoops I skipped reviewing the third chapter I was so pulled in by the story. Lol. Well at least they're taking care of Dean. Hurrying on to the next chapter. ;)

Excellent. The boys are knee deep in you know what and that's just the way I like it. Looking forward to the next chapter.

Wow. Excellent start. You got me hooked right away. I love the style of writing you're using, the perspective. It adds a richness, a texture to the story that makes it more real and enjoyable to read. Keep it up!
