Poor Kathleen! the finger mark bruises is an effective way to tell us how much force was used in a tactful manner. I can't imagine how horrible that would be. And to think that Dean/Gabe believed that would be his life forever and ever. No wonder he became so despondent. There was no hope for him. Oh my hell! You have to post again soon because even though I know Dean lives, I want to read it, know it for certain. Lets see how Missy gets out of this (because that bitch just doesn't die).
Author's Response: I’ve tried to be as suble as I can with what has happened to Dean… it’s an essential part of the plot and Gabe!Dean’s betrayal by Lee, who is ostensibly his brother, is intended to mirror Dean’s betrayal by Sam in S4. Would hate to depict it in a nastily pornographic and voyeuristic way, though, hence me focusing on the aftermath, the psychological effects and ‘little’ things like the bruises…

Woah! Talk about outta the frying pan and into the fire. Ha, ok that was seriously lame. Another freakin' awesome chapter. Looking forward to what's going to happen next.
Author's Response: It’s posted dude! Hope you likey…

My heart broke into a million pieces when Dean admitted that the Benders hurt him. What an agonising moment! I’m almost afraid to read the next chapter. Curiosity killed the cat…I guess I’m a dead cat. Excellent chapter! Once again you’ve packed it full to exploding just like a teen-agers closet. Just when I think I can relax a tad, you amp up the tension again. Damn! This Missy Bender just won’t die. I hope Dean gets to stand over her dead body and know it’s finally over.
Author's Response: OMG, do teenagers' closets explode? I have that to look forward to then! As said before, this fic was meticulously planned and sketched out with the hope it would end up as the kind of story I love to read myself, with just the right balance of quiet introspection and pathos leading into suspense, action, and bodacious cliffhangers!

Now what? Missy Bender on the side of the road? If the doctor is smart he won't pick her up. He'll probably get a knife in the chest for his trouble. You either know your drugs or did a lot of research. Very accurate! Dean’s got a lot of anger to get through and most of it will be aimed at Sam. That’s not going to be fun for him but it will be fun for me to read.
Author's Response: Actually I write about health and medical issues for a living so I do know my stuff... ;-) It means all of the whump has remained within the realms of plausibility and the medical content is accurate: that matters very much to me. And I also have used some of my own experiences in regard to some of the upcoming content, as you may work out when you read it... And yup, Dean will be very confused and angry with his brother - but Sam will be there for him every step of the way...

Another jam-packed chapter! I can’t believe how much action you put in every segment! I guess there’s no need for the rape kit. Now everyone knows the extent of Dean’s injuries. Healing him is going to be a bitch---talk about rage. I can’t wait to see how you go about it. I can't imagine staying in the Bender house. Gross!
Author's Response: Gahd, if you had any idea how carefully this story was plotted out, with every big moment telegraphed in advance and seemingly insignificant details put in there specifically because I was going to pick them up again later. I am a journalist by profession and every fact has to be verifiable, every i dotted and every t crossed - the attention to detail I have to apply in my dayjob sure helped me when it came to writing this story! It seemed like wonderful symmetry to have them end up back at the Bender place... and there is a reason for it... you will see in the chapter I have just posted! ;-)

Another awesome chapter. This chapter really tugged at my heart strings.
Author's Response: Just wait and see what's coming up! You will be an emotional wreck by the end of this story! ;-)

Kate, poor Dean; doesn't that girl ever die. evil little thing. Bobby holding him and crying; had me in tears too. i always love how Bobby considers Dean and Sam his family. great chapters. Renee
Author's Response: Thank you Renee... I often wonder what kind of life the boys might have had if Bobby had been their father, given that he doesn't seem to lead the nomadic life that John did and could have provided a stable home for them, and also didn't ever seem to have quite the thirst for revenge at any cost that John did. My feeling is that Bobby might think of that too...

Another excellent installment. Looks like the Boys and Co. are in for their fair share of a rough ride. Can't wait!

Now that's the kind of emotion that reaches into your heart and takes your breath away. I'm glad to see you're getting a following with this story it's very much deserved and I'm overjoyed that Tree convinced you to bring it over here, otherwise many of us would be missing out. ^^
Author's Response: Thanks muchly... when a loved one is hurt it often can be just as hard for their closest family and friends to endure and over the next few chapters I really wanted to show that it is affecting Sam on a really profound level to see his brother brought so low and to feel so helpless when it comes to comforting him...

Oh wow, I feel tears brewing. Talk about an emotional update. The final lines are heartbreakingly beautiful. Dean is back. He may be beaten, battered and broken, but he's back. All will eventually be well (or at least I hope all will be well). Looking out for more.
Author's Response: Thanks dude! I really wanted to remember a time when Sm showed that love and care for his brother, even if Dean fought the chickflick moments!

OMG. Another evil cliff-hanger to start my working day with - serves me right for giving in to the temptation to check for updates before breakfast. This story is freakin' amazing!
Author's Response: I'm trying to keep up with you dude! Story should be posted in its entirety over the next few days... ;-)

Kate, wow what great chapters. 9-14. Lets hope they can get Dean back and out of the water. as for Missy she would be better off. Love how you had Bobby reacting to Dean and the surgery. again great chapters. Renee
Author's Response: Thank so much Renee... I'm glad you are enjoying the story: it's my pride and joy! I love the Bobby-Dean relationship and have always subscribed to that 'fanon' notion that Bobby feels this profound paternal love for Dean because he lost his own son... hope you continue to enjoy the story: it is complete [22 chapters in all] and I am furiously tweaking chapters so that it should all be posted over the next few days. As said in a couple other review responses, I was a tad worried the content might be too strong for this site but Tree loved the story and was very keen that I post it here. I'm really pleased with the response!

Woo go Dean! You save that messed up, backwater, hillbilly kid you crazy bastard. And I say that in the fondest way possible. Good thing those Winchesters are made of tougher stuff than most men.
Author's Response: Thanks dude... of course the irony is that while Gabe would have let go of his 'sister' and gone with the 'boy', because InnerGabe [who of course is really InnerDean] knows there never was any real bond or relationship, once Dean 'comes back' he lets go because it just isn't in his nature not to try to save the kid... Oh, Dean...

Stolen right from under their noses! Oooh, that Missy Bender is a worthy opponent! As much as I didn't want Dean to let go of the branch, he wouldn't be the Winchester we love if he'd saved himself.

Incredible! But I'll be glad when the tough, emotionally unavailable Dean replaces victimized wimpy Gabe. I'm eager to see what happens to Missy, too.

Talk about twists and turns. Missy freeing Sam to save Dean from Lee. Dean flipping from being angry hurt Gabe hating Sam, to needing the comfort he offers. Dean been taking warfarin on top of hallucinagenics, a tox screen would definitely be interesting! Detoxing him is going to be hell, and I'm not even considering the implications of missing HIV tests etc. Loving the frequent updates.

Fantastic! You have to post again soon! You have to take us through the debriefing of Dean Winchester!

i love all the references to the B-rated horror movies. I think I've seen them all, too. Dean is definitely spending too much time with the Benders. His one-liner is eerily similar to Missy's.
Author's Response: Gah, we sure watched some dreck when we were kids, huh? There are clips of Night of the Lepus [the giant killer rabbits movie] on YouTube... I have had a rabbit phobia since watching it. And Them! [giant killer ants] is a sci-fi classic... And I still can't believe Zoltan, Hound of Dracula is a real movie.I would love to have been at the pich meeting for that one...

This is one of the best stories I've ever read on here. It's unique and enthralling and beyond awesome.
Author's Response: Thanks so much... I was a tad concerned about posting here due to the fact the story has some pretty strong content but Tree was convinced it would find an audience here... I'm so glad you're enjoying it and it really warms my heart to hear you say it's one of the best stories you've read on here when there is so much other good stuff on-site... ;-)

Ewww! I'm discovering what a sick person I am because all the disgusting stuff makes very interesting reading. Now we know where Missy got the fresh meat for the stew. Dean is going to become a vegetarian if he finds out what he's eaten.
Author's Response: Yup, the hiker stew [if it was] is going to become a big issue later on...

Geez, that Missy is a real hard-nose! but at least Lee has basic nurturing tendencies. Even though he'd developmentally delayed, he realizes that Dean needs more liquids and better care. No, Sam! Don't do it!
Author's Response: I'd watch out fer that Lee was I you...
Reviewer: Shannondoah (Signed) · Date: 10/06/09 09:23 AM · On: Fearful Symmetry
Incredible! Describing Dean through Sam's point of view was awesome. I was especillay intrigued by the thought that Sam would know when his brother really needed him like a buckle in the Force or ESP and how that delusion is shattered once they are hunting again. "...because if there was one thing Sam was still sure of at that moment of seeing Dean with his carefully erected defenses in disarray, it was that his brother had called his name in the night and no one else’s." What a powerfully emotional realization! Then the wake Sam and Hudak hold in her kitchen---stupendous! I'm soooo glad that Tree talked you into coming here!
Author's Response: Thanks dude... this story also is a way for me to sorta 'rehabilitate' Sam in my own mind after his treatment of Dean in S4. That love and bond are still there and I really wanted to emphasize it in this story - to show that Sam loves Dean as much as Dean loves Sam. Of course, with Sam being as articulate as he is, he describes his love for his brother in a very vivid and expressive way. Later on in the story much the same thing will happen in reverse but since Dean is much less articulate and more emotionally guarded he will express the love in a much simpler way... I was a tad worried about posting here because the story has some pretty strong and disturbing content, but Tree was convinced that people would like it... I'm so glad you're enjoying it.

That Missy is a real card! I know I probably shouldn't be so amused by her wickedness but it's damned funny! You've really brought her character to life.
Author's Response: Yeah... she's sorta modeled on my 10-y-o daughter... :-O
