I like that second to last sentence there about Sam leaning into Dean. We don't see much of that anymore and it's nice to be reminded of it. Great job.

WOW! Now that's facing the issue of Dean's Hell Party. Great job. :)

Beautiful! Poignant! So artfully written! I can't stop reading it.

You fell in love with Farscape? Aww, you are a star. BTW - you're not a Trip/T'Pol shipper too, are you...? Just wondered... Name looked familiar... :)
Author's Response: Yes, I am a Trip/T'Pol shipper. If my name looks familiar and reminds you of the ENT fandom, it was probably for Cry Havoc. That was my most popular ENT fic.

Hey Hun. Gosh that's hard to read...I mean that in a good way - it's hard because its so well written and so possible. That such terror and pain would haunt Dean is horrible to contemplate but is a more likely outcome than a consequence free return from hell. I think you have pitched sam's exhausted resignation so well, it is desperate but elegantly understated. sad, brutally, wearyingly sad - as is watching a loved one suffer. Well done. bird x

That was great. I agree, not enough has been covered about Dean's mental state. I think you hit it on the "Pin?". D

This is amazingly well written - and to be honest, I felt like this during the opening episodes of s4 too! All we got was some brief, shaky moments when Sam wakes him up - REALLY? I've had near-death experiences that had me on edge and unable to sleep for fear of nightmares for WEEKS. He was in Hell for all those years - and simply admitting he enjoyed what he did was the most we 'saw'? Anyway, my beef over - this is ace stuff. Loved it. A good smooth style and got right to the heart(s) of the matter. It's what we would have got on the show if they didn't have to be careful about content ratings or upsetting the casual viewer who didn't know the whole story. Excellent.
Author's Response: It pains me that the writers didn't just go for broke and write Dean broken as he should be. The way he's coped this season with his time in hell, you'd think it was little more than Camp Hell for the summer. But I'm spoiled... I fell in love with Farscape, that DID write twisted, damaged characters, and now I expect that caliber from every show I watch thereafter. Sadly but predictably, they all fall short.

As much as I love S4, this is what is missing. Thank goodness for fanfics, right? I totally agree, Dean is strong, but we are talking forty years in Hell. This is more realistic than him simply having a few flashes and then flashing his own smile and insisting he is all right. Dean is far from all right. And I love how Sam is here, protective, caring, again...what we are so missing on the show. You did a great job portraying both brothers and their pain. Thanks for a terrific read, B.J.
Author's Response: I guess what bothers me is the writers seem almost reluctant to commit to Dean's tormented soul. They write him as they always did, then remember 'oh yeah, he's been in hell' so they have to make SAM point it out 'man, the nightmares, the drinking...' Sam shouldn't have to wave the flag at it for us. I have issues, I know.

At first there's only the wind. Then, raspy and weak, "Sam...?" "... yeah..." "You okay?" Sam lets the bitter smile come because the night will hide it. Dean can't relinquish his duty to look after Sam. It's burned into his brain just as deep and thick as hell into his soul. He'll wake up screaming, and he'll wake up screaming for Sam. - Loved this line and the entire story. I would have liked to see Jensen get the chance to play a bit more broken on the show. However, given the way the season's going, I'm thinking we're going to get a serious amount of Dean angst in the last couple eppys. Great story. ;) Kel
Author's Response: Here here... Jensen has SO much talent just waiting to be unleashed, and this would have been a perfect opportunity.

Oh wow, what an emotional piece. You may be bothered by how well Dean seems to be coping in the series, whilst I'm bothered by how little help the angels seem to be offering the brothers. But I'm sure it'll all come to some sort of a head by the end of the season, then we'll all be begging for season 5 to start!

Wow, well done, a very painful insight into how both boy's are suffering.

A piece wrought with emotional turmoil. I agree that I thought we'd see more of this upon his return from Hell. Very nice write!

Wow, that was deep, dark and tragically beautiful. Seeing it through Sams's eyes, seeing through all of Dean's many walls and attempts at camouflage made it harsher still. Left me with a tear in my eye. Very nicely done. Thanks Jane

You said in your notes it's Dean's seeming lack of reaction to hell that bothered you, but this ficlet shows ts impact on both he and Sam wonderfully. You can feel it tearing them apart, building walls between them that neither one knows how to break and it's filled with such vivid discriptions that you can see the scene playing out perfectly. Fantastic first post over here (you made a far better job of formatting than I did my first fic!) - can't wait to read more...

ITA. Dean's painful hell-induced anguish has only been seen in flashes, and brief bouts of excess drinking. His weakness has been highlighted in several episodes, but not his residual mental suffering. You described it beautifully in your story. It was heart-wrenching! Good job!
