What an amazing chapter! This was so nice to read since of course season 4 left everything still tense between the brothers. And you did it so well! You brought up some things I hadn't thought about with Sam- about him leaving and why. I don't know if I agree with it, but of course Dean was just pushing Sam's buttons. Still, it's an idea that I need to think about some more. I LOVE that! I really don't want to wait two weeks because I have really looked forward to Friday mornings where I sneak down and read the next chapter very first thing before the kids wake up. I will miss it next week very much. However, I promise not to whine a lot, and I'l let you guys deal with life. Feel better!
Author's Response: Thank you so much for that. Oh, we made you think? That's awesome! We worked very hard on which buttons Dean would press to get Sam to break - and we discussed some of Sam's behaviour, deciding that he definitely shows tendencies towards being a little obsessive at times. But Dean just ramped the accusations up a little more to smash through Sam's barriers. As for the leaving - well, neither of us think that Sam's a coward by any means, but he does tend to run when things get tough. But he's running to something rather than from something most of the time. However, with him taking off in Hunted, we did wonder if there was a little fear involved too - he was so horrified to hear that his dad had told Dean he might have to kill him - hell's bells, we'd be freaked if our sisters turned up on our respective doorsteps and said that to us - we'd be headed for the hills too. Aww - thanks for that. We're so chuffed that we've made your mornings special.

Amazing, but not really surprising that Sam can sleep peacefully with Dean being there. I really liked that Ginny got to say 'I told you so" although she was really niceabout it. And Sam waking up with Dean at his side was great but certainly a little confusing and even scary for him, something that continued on. It was good that Dean got to meat the other ladies from the "Sam's Club" and got to see how wonderful they are. I also loved that that Dean was honest about reading the journal. It certainly freaked Sam out but he sure needed to know. It feels so bad that he still thinks Dean will kill him. To see him getting sick and enjoying Dean's presence and at the same time hating himself for it because he thinks it won't last is so sad. It was really heart wrenching though to see Dean find out why Sam left. That he heard things Dean said to Grace but didn't hear all of it and took it out of context. That this is why he thinks Dean wants to kill him and that he obviously remembers the incidence when he first woke up and Dean couldn't calm him and had to strangle him into unconsciousness, wow, what a bummer. I look forward to the conversation between the two of them, it is going to be tough for both of them to get things right. So this chapter started to get the brothers back together but it is obvious that it won't be easy. You guys have really done an amazing job keeping things interesting and on the edge. A lot of questions and just enough to wanna know more. In addition to this you kept the tearducts going and hearts melt. And you still keep me going. So I'll see you guys Friday, at least I hope I will get to it that soon this time. Live has been busy. Hugs, Vonnie

Can't tell how much I loved the opening scene here, Dean and Sam sleeping so peaceful in this hospital room, side by side, this felt so good, like everything is falling into place again, this moment really shined! Things between them are still fragile and it's a long way back but it's worth every effort - Dean asking for the straws and vanilla latte (so sad Sam didn't drink it because the memory was too painful) was a very sweet and thoughtful gesture, these little things are so important and tell so much; and Sam's "don't go, he pleaded silently, twisting two fingers in the soft fabric. Not yet. Not now" speaks volumes in the most wonderful way! Sam's nightmare and it's impact came as a shock not only for Dean; tragic, Sam heard his conversation with Grace and still thinks Dean wants to kill him, so sorry for both, they have to talk about everything to get past it for once and for all and I guess it will be unbelievably hard, a walk on broken glass, but they will make it in the end and when I think how you will write this I can't wait anymore! As always thank you so much!!!
Author's Response: Sabine, your reviews are truly a highlight of our week. We love how you point our the parts you like and why. Your reflections show us how much you get all the nuances of what we are trying to do, and how important the details are to the feel of our story. you guys owe me a box of tissues! I cried all through the hospital scene with the bendy straws and vanilla coffee, and then you hit me with the nightmare! Usually I read the chapters twice before I review but I'm just not up to it emotionally! I'm so glad the boys seam to be working it out. There have been far too many lies and secrets, I have a feeling that talk is going to be hard on them and me! thanks so much for writing
Author's Response: We are thrilled that you got through a whole box of tissues! We knew from our discussions that the boys journey back to each other would be emotional, and reviews like this show us we were successful. We are flying high that we caused you to react so emotional. Thank you also for your comments on the bendy straws, the coffee and Sam's nightmare, we are always stoked when our readers react the details which are so important amongst our major plot arc. Thanks so much for reviewing. Petra and Jules

Another completely stunning chapter. Typical that you lull us into a false sense of security with Sam and Dean sleeping so calmly, leading us to think that they will have the chick-flick moment and everything will be hunky-dory in the Winchester world. The reality though is different and there are still bridges to cross. Poor Catherine and Sharon must be so confused with the snippets of information they keep receiving but not getting the big picture!
Loved that Blake admitted to Ginny that he had been wrong, and so like her to organise food and a welcome when Sam arrives home with Dean. And Emily is a wise soul, spotting immediately that Dean is Sam's brother and not just a friend. Typical of Sam to say he never got a look at his 'mugger' and Ginny will never let the cat out of the bag. The brotherly instinct to protect is still there. Perfect that Dean admitted he had read Sam's journal when Sam realised he knew about the tumour, they need to be as honest as possible with each other and hiding that fact would have just caused more mistrust as it couldn't have been hidden for long.
Trust you to keep up the angst with Sam still unsure whether Dean is there to finish the job or to be his brother and that is confirmed by his nightmare at the end of the chapter where he keeps reliving things he heard when he was unconscious. But how awful for Dean to realise that Sam heard his conversation with Grace but he now has an explanation as to why Sam ran. Awesome update, had you had the talk in this chapter it would have been too rushed as there is still so much both boys have to work through. So looking forward to next Friday and the inevitable chick-flick moment! Sarah
Author's Response: Once again you manage to make our day with a stunning review. Thank you so much for just 'getting it' - your deep reflections are exactly the emotions that are driving these brothers, and this is what we are continually striving to portray. We love every one of your observations and your compliments are icing on the cake. Petra and Jules

I have to admit that I haven't been missing the Show as much since I have Fridays to look forward to because I wait for the weekly chapter! I had to refresh the page a few times waiting for you girls to post. That's how addictive I've become to the story ;) Outsider POV- I absolutely adored the opening scene with Blake and Cate looking in on the boys! I just loved the description you gave of how intwined they became while asleep. Also- I'm liking the little glimpses that you give us of the boys and Sam in particular and how they're viewed in the eyes of the outsiders. I absolutely LOVE Willa and Em, as well as Ginny of course! I love how Em was like 'you're such an idjit if you can't see that they're related' LOL I LOVED LOVED how you had Dean thinking that the trio have taken very good care of Sam but it could never come close to how excellently Dean takes care of Sam. I like that Dean is acknowledging this to himself especially since up 'til 4.14- this has been non-existent! Dean- I love how he's trying so hard to make it up to Sam, but what with Sam's fears standing in the way- he has a huge uphill battle ahead of him. The coffee was such an awww moment and it made me cry that Sam stopped drinking that flavor because the memories were too painful. I liked the fact that 'cos of the journal, Dean knew what buttons to push of Sam's but he still stood his ground as big brother. Sam- You answered my question from last week about why Sam's still convinced that Dean wanted to kill him. It's so painful to even think that Sam heard Grace and Dean talking and of course being out of it and not hearing the full conversation nor its context- Sam jumped to the wrong conclusion. I sobbed when I read the line where Sam sees the cheve because the Impala is apart of the family and it must have been a shock for Sam not to see her waiting for them outside. I can not wait for Friday!
Author's Response: Another review from you to steal our breath. Thank you so much for all the thought and effort you put into your reviews. Telling us what parts affected you and how is wonderful, it makes all our work so worthwhile. We are overwhelmed that you wait for our chapters and that we help fill the Show's hiatus for you. And we have you addicted? Awesome! Your stars are beautiful and we thank you very much for them as well. Petra and Jules

Thanks again for another great chapter. I love that the boys can still communicate without words even after so much time apart. Sam letting Dean take up the conversation with just a look and nod was great, and Sam protecting Dean by saying it was just a mugger showed how much he loves his brother. We can feel and see Sam's continuing fear of Dean in your writing, but his desire to be with him far outways his fear by his constant need to have him there. Great writing ladies!! You are leaving us hanging till next week!!*evil* You sure you haven't been taking notes from Kripke. lol I look forward to Friday and the long awaited talk.
Author's Response: What a lovely review! We love it that you have noticed and commented on certain parts of our fic that mean alot to you. Again, OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!! I sitting here literally with tears in my eyes at the end of this chapter. What a chapter this was!!!!! This one was filled with so much, it was like Christmas for me!!! Kinda been a bad couple of weeks for me and your story so helped me. I injured my right knee and not allowed to walk much on it so I am enjoying the fact I have the time to read and enjoy your story. This was such an awesome chapter. It was filled with some fun moments, some very true big brother moments and of course the great angst. Put them all together the way you did and it just was truly brilliant. I am truly an avid fan of your writing ladies. You truly have done a fantastic job and captured Sam and Dean to a "T". I also gotta say that I absolutley loved the character of Ginny. She is truly a great character. GREAT JOB!!!!!! I just can't say enough that I truly love your talent and this story has begun to take a life of its own with me. I think I need to buy more kleenex. Keep up the great job!!!!!!! Hugs,Jane
Author's Response: Another awesome review, Jane, thank you. We love it that you are an avid fan and commenting that this fic is taking on a life of its own is a fantastic compliment. Thanks for loving Ginny. She is Jules's creation and she captures something very special in our fic, we can tell certain aspects of our fic and the boy's journey through her. What can I say without repeating myself? I guess simply that I loved it. Not enough... You really touched me (once again!) with the scenes between the brothers: Sam desperately longing for his seemingly lost brother and then again being scared of him, the boys sleeping in the hospital, the moment of truth when Dean confides he knows, the shocking revelation of Sam's panic room experience... awwww! Amazing writing (huh, I think I used "awesome" last time but it's difficult to find other top level words here!)! I am enjoying each chapter a lot and I am looking forward to the next one so much as I want the boys to be alright - to be brothers again. I so hope that Kripke will give us that on the show. For now, I trust you :)

Yay! Things finally start being put right! I loved the scene in the hospital with the boys sleeping- so sweet. It's fun seeing all of these women taking care of Sam. You've done so well conveying all of the complex emotions in the brother's relationship. The body language you've got going between them is just fabulous. I can't wait to have them finally work everything out!

I promise to try for full review early next week assuming I can think straight after a weekend at the Asylum Convention. In the meantime I'll just say I loved it.

WOW!! you guys have me sobbing even after reading this part for the third time! Dean- I'm loving the fact that Sam revealed his true self in the journal and that Dean gets to read it. Yes, Sam's an idiot for having to run away from Dean and not staying to work it out. I love how you have Dean shift from calling Sam names to aching with him as he understands that Sam wasn't in a very good frame of mind since Dean's death. If we can't have Sam actually tell Dean his true feelings and thoughts then the journal is an excellent runner up for this! I love the scene when Blake finally comes to admit to Dean that he was wrong about things. I thought that it was an excellent scene which conveyed both men's concern for Sam beautifully! The last scene in Sam's hospital room was so poignant and just beautiful! Sam- you guys, despite being Dean girls just get Sam. I love that you highlight his flaws, but at the same time acknowledge that he's only human and should be allowed to make mistakes and still be loved. I LOVE this about the story and honestly I haven't seen this in the Show! I just hope that S5 does as much justice to Sam as you girls have done! Reading about the radiation treatment was very painful especially as Sam thought himself to be alone in the world and just really wanting Dean to be at his side. I know that others see Sam as being a hypocrite, etc but I just see him as a broken man who felt that he was all alone in the world. It might not be the truth of the matter, but to him it must have felt that way. I hope that you'll show us some more into Sam's thoughts, etc on why he thought that Dean would follow through with his promise. The scene in the hospital was just so telling how much Sam isn't okay- regardless of the cancer- seeing Catherine as Ruby and calling out for Dean just screams to me that Sam really does need help from Dean. I can't wait until Friday! :D
Author's Response: This review has just blown us away. You are totally getting everything - absolutely everything - we set out to portray in this story. Thank you so much for your articulate and detailed comments. Thank you, too, for pointing out the scenes that got to you, there is no greater compliment for an author. Not to mention how stoked we are that you loved our chapter enough to read it three times. Our intention was for our readers to see Sam through first Sam's eyes and then Dean's and you are there with us the whole way. Your words show you rode that emotional roller coaster of understanding with them, and with us. Yes, the illness and radiation dropped Sam to rock bottom on top of his guilt and loneliness, and we aimed at using the journals to show this. You are spot on with your comments. You share our understanding - we have never seen Sam, in the Show nor in our fic, as whiny or selfish. We see him as a man who made choices out of despair and love, for what he believed were the right reasons. Again, thank you so much for such an awesome review, we are thrilled to bits. Petra and Jules

Wow, you really got into Sam's head. The journal entries got even sadder than before. All the side effects of the treatment were awful enough but to see Sam reliving everything that happened was just heart breaking. Dean having to read all of it is almost worse so, as he starts to realize for the first time what was going on inside of Sam and how he saw things. Dean knows that some of Sam's accusations are not totally true but he also knows that this is how his brother experienced things and he never gave him any reason to think any differently. At the Sam time it becomes clear how many mistakes Sam himself made and that he knows it to. Not necessarily while in treatment, but the entry after the treatment makes it clear that it's not really fear of hisbrother and other hunters that makes him be John Cambell but rather that he can't face being Sam Winchester anymore. He despises what he has done and he can't forgive himself for it. I think that's why he still believes Dean wants to kill him. If you can't forgive yourself, how could you believe any one else could forgive you? And still, he can't get away from Dean. Any time he is weak and not quite coherent it becomes apparent that all he wants is his brother. The letter to Dean says the same thing. Also he doesn't expect forgiveness, he craves it because only the thought that Dean might come to hate him less keeps him going. I also think he would have committed suicide a long time ago, after all he feels his corpse should have left rotting at Cold Oaks or Stull, but there is something that holds him back and I think it's Dean. He knows instinctively Dean couldn't live with the knowledge Sam took his own live. So even though he denies it, he still does whatever possible to please his brother and with that maybe feel at least a little closer to him. And Dean is totally overwhelmed by the journal entries. Like Sam writes, it was Dean who got him to talk whenever needed. After he came back from hell this changed and now this journal has become a kind of replacement. For him to finally read it is awesome but also devestating. I'm glad that Blake finally is giving permission for Dean to see his brother. And just as he wonders about how difficult it might be for them to heal the rift, Sam gives him this unconscious sign how much he craves for Dean's comfort.
You guys are just so amazing with this story and I look forward to see Sam wake up. Thanks again for writing such an amazing story. Hugs, Vonnie
Author's Response: What a fantastic review, Vonnie, you have totally made our day! You are getting everything we aimed for and we can't thank you enough. We are thrilled that you took the time to carefully analyse and discuss the boy's actions and thoughts in our fic. You have hit the nail on the head with all of your comments, especially that Dean is seeing brother's experiences in raw honesty as he lived them and that Sam can't face himself because he can't forgive himself and therefore cannot see that Dean would forgive him. We discussed the possibility of Sam feeling suicidal and hinted at these dark thoughts in his journal. Your critique that Dean was his reason for not following through shows that you understand, as we do, that deep at the heart of both boys is the hope that they will be reunited, because to save each other is how they save themselves. We are total believers in the brotherhood of these two men. Again, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for such a wonderful review, with special thanks for your kind praise and thanks. Ladies, what can I say??? Once again awesome, awesome writing! Such an emotional rollercoaster. I can somehow understand Sam but then again I want to shake him and make him aware that Dean never wanted him to leave, never wanted to harm him, now only wants his brother back so bad. I can't wait to find out what happens when Sam wakes up. Is it Friday yet? Lol!
Author's Response: Thank you very, very much for such high praise and kind words. Yes, it's an emotional roller coaster all right and both our boys have been on a long ride. We are delighted that you understand where Sam is coming from. His actions were driven by self guilt and remorse as well as anger and pain, and that was before the gruelling cancer treatment began. I wonder if there will be a chapter I can read without crying so hard, still I wouldn't want to miss a single second of this experience, can't even think of a more stunning way to tell this story, this here became one of the stories for me I won't ever forget, one that tells what love means and life is all about and that there is always a way back, always!
The journal is again a deeply painful read for Dean (and it's like you can hear Sam talk), but what wouldn't he do for his Sammy, I'm convinced in the end it will bring them even closer together and make this bond truly unbreakable. After Dean's so determined vow "my brother isn't dead - he's still in there somewhere. And I'm gonna find him. I don't care what it takes" I know they are gonna make it, Dean is on a mission and Sam calling for Dean showed he wants and needs his brother as much as ever; very glad Blake gave Dean permission to see Sam (starting to warm to this doc I guess), aww and Sam nestled into Dean's touch, perfect, love you for this ladies!!! (My eyes are a bit better, thank you for your wishes! Sabine)
Author's Response: We are basking in your praise, Sabine. You are getting everything we set out to do, so thank you very much for reading so carefully and reviewing so thoughtfully. Author's Response: Hey Fredo. We are very happy that you are with us. Yes, wow to brain cancer - this has been an emotional ride for Jules and I as well as our brothers and readers. Keep your eye on Blake, he really has a genuine reason for protecting Sam, after all, he has been with Sam all the way through his diagnosis and treatment. And rain!! You have no idea!!! We have had our whole season's worth in two days. Flooded waterways, creeks and drains rose to block roads and flood buildings for hundreds of kilometres. Jules barely got home one night and my dam has been overflowing for a week. I think we have webbed feet...But we are fine, just a little soggy! Thanks heaps for asking.
